Two days ago, on the13th of October (by a sick twist my brother's birthday as well), my cat Brownie, a cute, furry, very affectionate catdied. I wouldn't feel anything but a sense of loss if I hadn't seen how he died. But I witnessed the whole thing, and I can't stop thinking about it.

While I had a friend over, working on a school assignment, he all of a sudden burst out, "they've killed Brownie!" I figured he was joking until I looked out the window... two large dogs, one tan and one brown - both with collars -had little Brownie in their clutches and were dragging him mercilessly across my backyard.

My elder brother, my friend and I all rushed outside and yelled at the dogs until they left him alone. I rushed down to the cat lying in the grass... he couldn't move... his mouth was hanging open, and he was breathing too hard... crushed windpipe. I pet him for a few minutes, trying to get him to calm down. I got up and ran inside, picked up a broom, and handed it to my friend, telling him to beat the dogs off if they ever came back. My brother phoned my parents, who were both out-of-town, and then phoned the veterinarian.

When I went back outside to be with Brownie, I noticed he wasn't moving and his eyes were dilated... I told my brother he was dead, and he repeated the message to my parents on the other end of the phone. My mom started crying and told him to take one last photo of the cat.

The healthy, happy, cat had received nothing but love all his life. I remember him sleeping in my lap just an hour earlier. He died a gruesome, painful, early death because of the stupidity of a neighbor who didn't feel like walking his dogs himself.

The dogs were owned bya neighborwho lived down the street from us... all he got was a citation - just a little warning -for not maintaining control of his dogs. He would've gotten the same penalty if we had merely seen the dogs snooping around our yard and reported them. We got nothing.

I just felt I had to post this because now every time I think of how Brownie had to die, I choke up.

You can still sue your neighbor in civil court. It doesn't bring back brownie but it might send a stronger signal to your dumb ass neighbor.

I highly agree with this.

My cat that is with me now was attacked by a Rotrawler (spelling) about 3 years ago. Thankfully, Pizzant split the dogs nose open, but after receiving a couple puncture wounds in his side.

The Vet said that I could probably have went after them in civil court for the damages because they let their dog roam free.

Let us know how it ends. Would love to see stupid poeple get it in the end.

I edited and added the pictures we are intending to show to the neighbor (and my dad is intending to show to a lawyer)and makethe guyfeel what we're going through.

That picture just shows how much pain was going through that poor cat...

In the second picture, Brownie is already dead... that was after my brother told my parents over the phone that he was dead and my mom told him to take one last photo, through her tears.

Sorry to hear of your loss, Brownie looks very much like my wife's cat of 20 years who just died last fall. It is always very hard to lose a pet, as many have said they become part of the family. Don't blame yourself though, try to remember the good memories and hopefully the neighbor will learn one way or the other from their mistake what pain something horrible like this can cause. Thankfully my wife's cat Ringy didn't die like this, but peacefully. I do, however, understand as I had a dalmation attack my terrier some years ago, she survived thanks to a late night vet working on her immediately but she required a lot of stitches.

i am sorry for your loss ...

but the kind of animal owner i am .. i don't understand why anyone would have an animal and call it a pet and leave it outside most of the time ... mine stay inside unless i go out with them (take them out 2 to 3 times daily) ... heh i know i have taken a neighbor that has an outside cat to court for a ruined paint job ... cost them $4000 ...

Oh god, that is terrible. I really feel for you, and I know how it is to loose pets (not my own). Heck my dog is getting old, and I fear she may kick the bucket soon. Vet said she should be dead by now, but is as healthy as ever for an 11 year old Labrador. I dont mean to be the bearer of bad tidings, but (no offense) it looked like the pic when he died, that he was in complete shock. If my neighbors dog did that.... I dont know if i could stop myself from shooting their dogs. Sorry to bring this thread up again, and good luck on the court case. If your lucky, I think the dog or dogs in question will be humanely uthanized for not being safe enough (put to sleep.) Id imagin that is what will happen. Remember though, brownie is in a land of meadows, flowers he is rolling in and smelling, and a clear, blue sky. You will join him eventually, and maybe so will I!

Hey man, I'm sorry for your loss. My first ever pet was a cat, I've had her since I was 4 and she recently died in July (I am 21 now). My whole life that I can remember, my cat has been a part of it, so I have a certain affinity for cats.

I'm really sorry that happened to you man. Especially the way that it did happen.

If you were to poison some meat and give it to the dogs in a couple months, the cops wouldn't even look into it. If a dog ever attacked my pet (who was put down last november due to cancer), I wouldn't even think twice about removing the animal from the neighborhood asap. Not only for revenge for the pet's life that it took, but mostly to prevent other pets from dying to it.

edit: Just so you know, I don't like stepping on bugs, let alone killing animals. I can't go hunting due to my moralsbut somethingnees tobe done to prevent this from happening again. I can guarantee you that it will happen again to someone elses innocent pet if something is not done. If you go to court, TRY to get them to be forced to be put down, and if that doesn't work, think seriously about doing something yourself...

Oh and one more thing. Have you guys ever seen those sigs that are lines of text and look like they are a part of the post?
