From the Test board, this very unfortunate news:

Keldarin wrote:

1) Existing pets will not get starting innate abilities. You will need to tame new pets to learn them.

They don't get it, do they? They just ... don't ... get ... it.

Just as I feared, we'll have to delete all our old wild pets and get new replacements for specials .

Actually im thinking that full grown ol pets (be or wild) will be able to get xp and be taught new abilities as normal. They just wont be given any FREE abilities. Thats how im reading it anyways.

I would still call it unfair that we have to trash our datapads or effectively double-level pets to get them to the same point we could if we just went out and tamed a new one. It is penalizing us for being existing Creature Handlers.

Why not make existing pets a new "baby" pet as if freshly tamed? All previous pet changes have been retroactive, why not now?

Edit: Meh, this is the info thread. I'll let my post stand since I've made it, but I thought this was one of our others on the changes. I'll refrain from future rants on this one.

hermit spider CL4 knockdown attack (L1) have train this thru 3 times it has grown to full size of normal adult of it's type but kd has not worked.

injured kwi CL60 ability eye gouge (L2) have got this to work get the blind icon on mob attacked, have gone 50%/XXXXXX and has not grown so you must cycle thru 0/XXXXXX once before pet will grow.

I just found some new commands, that seem to be pet oriented....

  • petBleedAttack

  • petBlindAttack

  • petDefenseBreakAttack

  • petIntimidateAttack

  • petKnockdownAttack

  • petPinAttack

  • petSnareAttack

  • petStunAttack

I'm still working on bring my slice hound to full maturity. It has now tripped the XP gauge 9 times. It has 4 Trainable Ability slots and 81 Training points. My guess is either it will hit max at 10 trips or 14, which is its CL.

Exactly. We already had to go through the process of getting all new pets post CU because they seriously screwed up the conversion process (not a rant just stating the facts). So why do they think we should have to suffer through it again? Is it because they fear that some legacy pets may have slipped through the cracks and this is just another way to make sure none survive? Or is it because they dont have the time to code the conversion into the game? I seriously want to know the reason.

Fellow CH'ers and other visitors.

Before we get in a big huff and tissy, take a second and breath. Count to 10 if you need to.

Ok, yes, old pets will not be given innate abilities when they are converted. They haven't done the conversion yet that i know of. My old pets still look the same as they did before Pub 21 came to TC. When apon conversion, they will be able to learn new abilities from new wild pets that have abilities that you will learn, as a CH from them.

We need to stop being in panic mode everytime TC gets a new publish. It is not healthy for you nor for the community.

The CH TC players are testing the best we can. Trust me, we are testing all we can and trying to find all the bugs. We are also working on understanding how the system works so that we can prepare all the live players before it ever goes live. When it goes live, we don't know.

Do not destroy you old pets yet. Again, we have not had a conversion of the old pets yet. Maybe today it has, but i myself cannot confirm that since i am at work at this moment. Please read the post made by the CH corrospondent and all TC CH that have been testing.

Don't get sucked into rumors and in yelling matches with the devs yet. Let us testers find all the stuff out first and then we will be more than happy to tell you what to scream about.

As a suggestion from a CH to another CH. If you have old pets but no room or to little room for new pets to learn abilities. Find a CH who has learned them, or some you can fully trust and trade pets till you get the abilities you want, then train your old pets the new abilites.

BE will be valuable as mentioned by other CH that they will be great modified pets that can be taught the abilities. They become your prized specialized pets. The wild pets will be very needed and desired for the abilities you can learn from them. So, both types will be valuable. You will also be able to teach wild pets new abilities too if you desire to keep them. In the end, if we put our minds to it, we can accomplish great things with this new system. But that will only be true if we don't panic.

So, finishing off. Take a deep breath, relax, and count to 10 if you need to. We testers got you covered. Honest.

Panic? Hardly. Well-deserved skepticism based on a long history of incompetent game management? Oh yeah.

The testers we have plenty of 'faith' in ... the likelihood that intelligent decisions will be based on the data you provide .... nearly zilch.

I have faith in the TC folks. I used to play there until the devs killed the community.

However, you guys are going away in a day or two, to be replaced by yet another clone server. So I doubt you'll be able to finish your testing and it'll be up to the frog-licking duelists to test for us.

But even that is not the problem. All the testing in the world won't save us if the devs ignore the bugs and problems in favor of meeting a publish deadline.

Which they will do.

Basically, if things are massively broke once they hit TC, I assume they'll remain as such till after live publish, because that is the recent track record. The gnashing of teeth and such is because of that fact, and the fact that this system (like everything else) is being forced down our throats with no opportunity for feedback. Oh, they ask for feedback, but not any related to the design of their system- just whether it works or not.

QFE (condensed)

Especially the part about get in a big huff and tissy is not healthy for the community.

It is some of the reactions that we are now seeing that makes it a major challenge for the DEV team to try and foster any form of communication. Would you want to try and communicate with someone who constantly yells at you for trying to change things so that they are more enjoyable as a whole?

No matter how much planning or community involvement the DEV team could do would ever make everyone satisfied. The DEV team is trying to get our feedback on adjusting the system that they have designed. We can either work with them to try work out some of the kinks, or we can work against them and cry nerf all day long.

I, along with Kalano and many other TC CH, will be trying to do what we can to make sure that those kinks are ironed out before this goes to Live, and beyond.

I hope the devs get over the legacy gripe if they have one. Sure there are still a few legacy pets, but hey there is alot of legacy items in the game now. Far too many to ever be gotten rid of. So a few slip through with higher damage or higher ham its not a big issue.

I hope the developement team allows old pets to be trained. Thats a reasonable and safe solution instead of rebalanceing the old pets again just slap on the new code.

God I wish i could go test this out.

Im pretty sure people have said old pets can be trained, they just don't start with their own specials :/.
