So, for a CL70 to get their first ability slot, you need 820k XP. For them to get their second ability slot, that's 2.05 mil XP. I'm not even continuing into the third and fourth slot, let's just discuss the second. HELLO?! I can bankroll 1.2 mil Rifle/Carbines/etc XP, and that's almost enough to totally respec (1.4mil XP and you can switch from all Carbines to all Rifles or so.)

Grinding with my CL70 pet is tougher than grinding out two elite combat professions. Is this some kind of joke?

I've played 10 hours today so far, since the publish went live, trying to level my CL70 pet. I wasted money on stims, using them one after the other to keep my degrouped pet alive while he got mass amounts of XP that I personally found astounding. I couldn't keep that up for long, and ran out of stims. So I hooked up with a CM/Medic/Doctor friend. She buffed my pet with all sorts of nice things, and healed him continually through his battles (my CL70 pet was soloing CL82 mobs, without any of us laying a finger on the mob, or even being grouped.)

Ten hours later, want to know how much XP my pet has? 358k. Not even to the first rollover. And while I was working on leveling my main pet, I haven't had the time (nor the effort, after this exhausting grind) to level up the pets I tamed to learn their abilities, which are clogging up my datapad, ready for me to snatch their abilities and delete them.

Is SOE on crack? I mean, I hate posting in such a volatile manner, but what the hell IS this? With that kind of XP, I'd be better off spending my time grinding toward a jedi. I am completely happy that they didn't screw with my pets, and that they are just as useless and same-old as they were pre-publish. However, a grind like this needs to be justified. If my pet was the jedi equivalent for critters in the galaxy, that would make sense. If my creature(s) were as badass as an AT-AT after this kind of a hideous grind, I could understand. But my pet is the SAME as pre-publish, the only difference is that it would get some minor buffs, if I do the unjustifiable grind. I could give my pet the Blind/Stun/KD abilities, which I myself can do easily after a much-simpler profession grind. I could give my pet more health/regen/armor, but BE pets are already beefed up a bit (does it stack? Who knows.) Frenzied Assault is already like Enrage Pets, causes more damage but weakens their defenses.

So... What's the excuse for this kind of a grind? If SOE can give me a legit reason, prove to me how my pets will earn their keep when this grind is over, I'd listen. Until then, CH's are still the laughing stock of PvP, and have miniscule use in PvE. Please, for the love of god, somebody explain to me why we have a huge grind like this. They don't even torture the billions of jedi like this...

Not that this is an especially good time for a bit of levity, but making me see all of this is almost making me fearful of what would happen if they actually stuck their 'hand that taketh away' into my Profession for once since launch.

So, just to get this straight ... it takes you guys 35 Million XP to totally "cap out" all your pets, which are basically your weapons.

Conversely, it takes Jim Bob the Rifleman a trip to his local Weaponsmith to do better damage and be more effective in combat.

Maybe they should give you guys cybernetic arms for your pets that whip Light Sabers around like Grievous did in Episode III. Maybe, then, it'd be worth it. After all, we're already neck-deep in "KOTOR-Online" as it is!

I really hope they address this for you guys, because it's complete madness. When I read this publish, I was honestly under the impression that you were going to have to basically "grind" each pet like it were an NPC mastering a combat profession, but that in return you were going to get like 12 of these new "abilities" for them. Maybe actually make them worth their salt, for a change.

Well, feel free to stop by the Squad Leader forums any time you want to hold hands and sing woes of SOE's genius. We'll invite the Rangers, too.

Best of luck, guys.

Please do go and try it out. I think it will be great finding these new specials. I just think we should have gotten something for the pets that had existing specials. Its all in the packaging.

How about you go try it out? The positive attitude is great and all, but ignorance is not bliss when the rest of us don't want the profession stuck like this. I'm sure you'll have fun finding these new specials. Sometimes you'll find, let's say, L1 Knockdown on a CL 13 mob, which means you'll roughly have to grind 20 - 30k of xp for it to rollover once. There are a multitude of bugs preventing a player from grinding a lower-CL pet, which lowers the pet's acquired XP... so you'll have to degroup, and do a balancing act with healing it and wasting stims, in a lot of effort that amounts to nothing.. or do what I did and bring a healer with you, and even then it still takes eons, even with the aid of another generous individual. And I'm just talking about grinding the new tames to get their abilities, which will have to be done multiple times. Sometimes, to get an L2 or L3 ability, you'll have to do XP rollovers on pets that are CL65+, which means hundreds of thousands of XP per rollover... And that's just so you can learn the one ability they offer, and transfer it to your main pet(s), which you will also have to grind up in order to use that ability. And as the original poster could tell you, that grind is even worse.

I do not mind grinding when it's for something good. Jedi, for instance, that torture is worth it to many.

However, we have a (roughly?) 35-million XP grind, just so we can stay as probably the sh*ttiest elite combat profession in the game? I don't know about you, but unless L3 Beastly Constitution gave 1k - 3k more HAM, it's not going to make your pet much more useful. It probably gives 5 more health points (pun intended). As a Bounty Hunter, I can use ONE special and lay both Stun and Dizzy on a target simultaneously, and quite easily. I would have to waste two ability slots on a pet for this, and even then, it's still not a passive ability, I have to give a verbal command which could be ignored, with all the bugs lately and issues with pets attacking lairs when ordered to attack another mob, and so on. We're so royally FUBAR'ed, and then they put the huge grind on top of us.

As my previous post said... Can anybody give me a reason explaining how our newfound grind is worth it in the long run? Maybe if you told us that L3 Beastly Constitution gives a few k in HAM, and the other abilities aren't insignificantly miniscule, but I doubt it. It makes me ticked enough that I'm this close to leaving the profession I've been with since I first started playing. I'll have to think about it, but... Hm. Thank god I still have my respec token.

Luxora, How about you read my other Posts? I pick the 1 maybe good thing from this patch and you jump down my throat? I have been here through all the nerfs. Look at the reg date. Read my posts. I wanted the specials fixed. They worked (mostly) pre CU and were broken. I was at fanfest where they stated they would get this fixed. Guess what they didnt fix them. So we have this. At least it is new content. I do not see this as all roses and rainbows. But I am not some noob. I know what CH were asking for. Read some of the posts I bump from more than a year ago. If you had to take 1 thing from this patch that was to your liking what would it be? Far be it for me to try and encourage any newer CH to not give up. Take your attitude some where else. ktksby

And the trade-in for combat xp in the village is now 30:1 instead of 3:1 also, so grind monkey grind. I'm just trying to imagine now how long it would take me to cap the experience points for all the pets in my datapad now... not counting getting new pets with the speicals to learn.

Uh... I don't know if I'm just extremely lucky in this aspect or what, butall of my 3pets that I've been "training" while I'm just killing low level lairs on Nabooto try and get abilities(7000XP per lair usually, even though they don't get any XP for animal kills) have gotten an ability slot on their very first XP roll. And then, on the second, another ability slot. 2 rolls, 2 ability slots.

EDIT: One of them just got a third XP roll, and got yet another ability slot opened. So far, 3 rolls and all 3 have opened an ability slot and given +7 to training points. Its a Dalyrake Matriarch that I've hard for nearly 2 years now, if your wondering.

Ok, have some numbers

You have to roll the pet xp overt twice to get the first ability slot

You have to roll the pet xp an additional 3 times to get the second ability slot

You have to roll the pet xp one aditional time to get the third slot

You have to roll the pet xp one adtional time to get the 4th slot

THats 7 times per pet. For me thats 35 MILLION xp to get.

Thats not even counting that you have to xp up a tame 0-4 times to learn its ability

And guess what? If you want your pets to be as powerful as they were yesterday how much XP do you need? I for one am not complaining about being given the ability to add utility to my pets by going out and playing the game.

This is crazy. Last thing I wanted to do after grinding was to have to grind more.

Where is the correct information for this game? What do these specials REALLY do in all their stages?

Wasn't TC the place where things get corrected and tested before they go live?

Lack of information, this is total BS!

CH as a class has been messed up for so long. Now you throw an endless grind/ability search at us. What the hell are you smoking? This is not a fix or balance for our class.

I've waited so long to be able to have fun with my game friends and explore swg with fixed pets...now I have to more work after SOE ruined things in the first place.
