It's a little harder to swallow when it's utility that you used to have, that you spent hours pursuing & taming the proper creatures to achieve, and then it was snatched away through negligent coding.

People don't mind so much having to play the game to use their pets, they mind starting from zero after two years. Why should they waste the time when some nitwit in a suit is going to get another 'bright idea' six months from now and flush their work down the drain AGAIN?

Fool us once, shame on you ... fool us twice, shame on us. A mindless grind to get back what we already had is just a classic Bait & Switch.

From Zero? Did all the pets in your databad suddenly disapear and get all their stats set to 1? Funny, mine (except for the nargs) are exactly the same as they were pre patch 21. I don't need to do a single thing to make them just as good as they were yesterday. However if I fight with them (lord forbid I should use my pets in combat) they will get better and better. How bizare is that? They might get better than they were yesterday, a time in which there was basicaly no way to make your pets any better than they were.

And guess what, some of my pets at one time HAD specials that made them powerful ... of course those "specials" were often bugged then nerfed a while ago so I'm not really that excited about having to grind to get back what my pets once had!

Your selective editing of my post shows that you get the message clearly, despite the attempt to act as if it had gone right over your head. It's a RE-grind, that's what people quite legitimately mind. My pets most certainly don't have the abilities they had before the original Specials system was broken through negligence, and trying to claim they are as 'good as they ever were' is just disingenuous spindoctoring.

This is a good point that pre-CU pets did have mostly working specials. However, talking about the pre-CU and making comparisons is largely futile. Those days are long gone.

What I'm trying to do with my posts is point out that I'm happy that the devs have given us a new specials system, that the system sounds like it works great, that the system offers better flexibility than anything we had before, and that the system offers a chance to better our pets as we play the game with them.

Basically, I don't want the devs who worked on this to feel like the system is unwelcome and unwanted. Because, I have a lot more fixes to creature handler that I'd like fixed and I don't them going away yet.

I am sorry if my original post ("And guess what? ...") came across as overly sarcastic. It was just the third thread I had replied to in which people were complaining bitterly about the new system so I think I was a little tired myself.

Speaking realistically (i.e. don't bother telling me about keeping things the way they were pre-CU because that just wasn't going to happen), what would the complainers rather have had happened? Should existing pets have kept their existing specials (intimidate becomes intimate L1? etc.)? Should we have gotten free ability slots in each of our current pets? The ability to just pick any special we want and put it in our pets?

Ok, have some numbers

You have to roll the pet xp overt twice to get the first ability slot

You have to roll the pet xp an additional 3 times to get the second ability slot

You have to roll the pet xp one aditional time to get the third slot

You have to roll the pet xp one adtional time to get the 4th slot

THats 7 times per pet. For me thats 35 MILLION xp to get.

Thats not even counting that you have to xp up a tame 0-4 times to learn its ability

Ummm - not so sure of those numbers old chap.

Certainly the lantern bird I tamed opened it's first slot on the "first XP roll".

I'm torn on this issue. Whilst it's a bummer effectively being broken back to the beginning asfar asspecials are concerned, but CH is now much more fun to actually play!

I suspect we are going to get 2 camps here: power players and people who regard leveling asa "grind" will hate the publish ("I have to grind the class again!"). The "hunting, shooting & fishing" crowd will like the direction it gives the class though.

One thing the publish certainly does though is make a difference between cookie-cutter templates - there should be a real difference between MasterCH's and thier abilities and pets, and now you actually have to PLAY the class rather than just grind it.

Overall I enjoyed this evenings play and it's a cautious thumbs up to the publish. It's just a pity they couldn't have thrown a bone to existing CH's (give existing pets a free slot of training or something).

Quoting myself! LOL. I just saw Ko's post on this subject. I think he has some good ideas in there and that he let the devs know that we appreciate the new system in general (my point here).

So, /cheer for the CH community. Maybe we'll get almost everybody happy soon!

I love hunting with my pets and loved the specials they had. I worked hard to get the right combo of specials. Now before you start the well that was before and it will never be like that again, the specials did not always work right before and we asked to have them fixed. CU comes and no specials work at all. Did not the devs forsee this or was no testing done at all? Ok they admited the specials were removed because of the CU. We asked for them to be fixed as our pets were now worse off than ever. Did they fix them.....NO. Now the new specials sound great. I have no problem going out and taming new pets to learn these new specials. It sounds like fun. Was it what we asked for....No. I do not like the idea that to make my current pets as effective as new tames I must grind out exp to train them specials that most had before. So lets see, they break it, they dont fix it, but they do give this wonderful new system so I can grind my current pets so that I can fix the non working specials by retraining them the new specials. Ok sounds great to me. Just another happy camper here.

No I would humbly suggest that current full grown, fully trained pets have their training slots open. We would need to go out and tame these new pets and lvl them to learn the new specials but would then be able to train these new specials to our existing pets. This would allow us to replace the broken specials with the new "fixed" specials without having to grind out all this extra exp on every one of our existing pets.

Just my 2 cents.

I am using a newSavage Quenker Level 33 and I am level 80 and no matter that the enemies are 50+ this stupid pet is only earning 1 xp point per kill for the training xp. This bites big weenies.

don't group with it. Tank for it. You will get much more training XP that way
