I couldn't agree with this more. It was always misused. Thanks for taking this action.

After over a year and a half The Star Rating system on the StarWars Galaxies Forum is saying farewell….

While in concept the system is a good Idea, it has not been used in a predominately positive way on our forums

The system is intended to be used to show how helpful a thread is and to occasionally weed out bad post. It has become a system of “I agree or Disagree” or “I like or Don’t Like You” and is used as a tool of grief.

What this change means for you?

1. You will no longer be able to rate posts
2. Those of you with “star granted” ranks WILL get to keep the use of your new icons. From now on though, those icons will instead be associated with the rest of the “time and post” based ranks.
3. The “Star Granted” ranks will be fit into the regular rank system (same titles and similar times)
4. This will not effect any “specialty” titles, and we may add more specialty titles in the future.
5. If you see a post that is inappropriate please make sure to use the “report to moderator” link.

Your welcome to submit your feedback for future consideration but please keep it civil.

What will the forum trolls do now? It is about time. Most of the posters have this "feature" turned off anyway.

The only part that I slightlyminded was that forum rank was partially based off of ratings, which made people who actually cared subject to people 1-starring for their own amusement. But since forum rank didn't matter all THAT much, it wasn't a huge deal.

My thoughts: Leave the rating system in, but don't tie it to anything. Its just a way for people to get feedback, say on RP posts or concept/idea posts, etc. Kind of like a survey tht you can't take TOO seriously because the survey target wasn't necessarily all that good, but it gives you a rough idea anyway.

I have been in the forums since SWG went live and to be honest....I saw the stars but never cared enough to find out what they were all about. As for the "somethings" attached to names because of stars...no clue. SOOOOO I absolutely will not miss it lol.

Hz...of course people will take a rating seriously, that is the problem. Would you buy something from someone with a 1 star rating in a auction? If you asked for information to a problem you didnt know the solution to, would you follow the advice of someone one-starred or five-starred?

People that say the system wasnt that big of a deal crack me up. EVERYONE uses the one star to judge a person that they dont know. You would be foolish not too. You would be foolish to buy an item for someone that had a one-star rating without out a least an inquiry as to why they were one starred. You would be foolish to follow the advice of someone that had a one star on their post without first asking why.

How do you know that the "feedback" you are getting isnt due to a griefer or flip-side due to someone with a few dozen friends 5-starring their post? The answer is, under the current system, you dont. Wether its tied to forum rank or not is completly besides the point. You take pride on giveing good advice, yet you have some snot-nosed 12 year old pissed because he didn't get his auction item decide to "have some fun" by going and one starring all your past and present posts. You give advice to a noob on an issue. The noob has the common sense to look at your post histoy and what does he see 100+ plus post with a 2 or 1 star rating. Noob disregards your good advice.

I cant make this any clearer to you Dood. THIS HAS ABSOLUTELY, POSTIVELY NOTHING TO DO WITH FORUM RANK. IT IS ABOUT PREJUDICAL BAIS BASED ON A STAR RATING. In other words people decide on the integerty and/or honor of your post based on the star rating you have been given on past and/or present posts. THIS is a griefers power. THIS is why one starring is such an affective way of griefing. I PERSONALLY in the past have passed up auctions and/or advice on a one star post just because it was one starred. And untill it happened to me I didnt understand it.

Excellent idea, especially because members of (or people close to) Community Relations have used it more than once to "1-star nuke" customer posts withcontent that offended them personally (whether justified or not).

Well, whatever, I'm happy if Community Relations is going to have more time to actuallyreply to user posts in the future instead of fiddling with the 1-star nuke option. It's a change for the better .

BAD idea. I myself like 1 and 5 star trolling.

Here's a way to make the star system better:

Remove 2 3 and 4 stars. No one uses these.

Good call. The star system rarely holds any credence on MMO forum sites because of the one-star ninjas that are always out there. I say good riddance!
