No!!! I do not like this idea. I had no clue that people didn't like the star rating system. I actually liked it.

THANK YOU!!!

Getting tired of one-star stalkers trolling multiple pages of my history to knock my rating down.

Hmm. Stars mean nothing to me. But what I would suggest is leaving some system in place where Forum Mods, Correspondents, and obviously Devs & SOE people, are allowed to do *something* to say "OMG, this post r0xx0rz!!".

It has built in self-moderation, because if an employee abuses it, you can sack them.

If a correspondent abuses it, not only can you sack them, but many of the respected members of a forum are likely to get crazy with "Sack him!" threads.

Completely unrelated, but... Tiggs is hawt. Just check her DevTracker, read the posts. You can tell.

This is obviously why they promoted her; it's also why the make her give out the bad news. She's so hawt, we won't lynch her. And by hawt, I mean she types a mean message and can do things that other people only seem to dream of doing. (points to Stratics chat)

Gypsia d'Catman - Tough Chick with a Flamethrower
Catman Dewback - Famed Trando ex-band leader of the Wookettes
Felis Con'Colori - Bothan Spy back before there was a "Spy"
Larrana Darkewave - A Silent Dancer

All dead as of 11/30/05. We tried. Gysia's flamethrower blew up. Catman was arrested for trumped up charges of slavery. Felis grew cold in the grip of Darth SOE. Larrana finally swallowed her NDA and choked.

The only part that I slightlyminded was that forum rank was partially based off of ratings, which made people who actually cared subject to people 1-starring for their own amusement. But since forum rank didn't matter all THAT much, it wasn't a huge deal.

My thoughts: Leave the rating system in, but don't tie it to anything. Its just a way for people to get feedback, say on RP posts or concept/idea posts, etc. Kind of like a survey tht you can't take TOO seriously because the survey target wasn't necessarily all that good, but it gives you a rough idea anyway.

Yeah, I'veposted manyrandom ideas and concepts, and I rely on the Star-System for reinforcement/constructive criticism. I think it should be 'debased' from forum-ranking so-to-speak, but not removed. Please give us the option to keep it.

A more productive solution may be to remove the negative aspect of it instead of the whole thing.

For instance.. make a rating system comprised of a few positive flags for posts. Helpful, maybe a positive Roleplaying thread flag, and something for just a generally good post. Then put a limit of how many posts (I'd say 1) that a forum user can "rate" in a 24 hour period. By removing the negative aspects of a forum ranking system, you take the power away from those who abuse it, while still allowing helpful / good posts to be marked.

We would really love to hear your feedback regarding the star removal!

Whilst the problematic conflicts that arise from the star system, I still believe it provided its purpose. I, for one, make many community ideas known public via petitions or well thought out posts with detailed outlines, and sometimes the star rating systme (Which can be bad at times) served a purpose. If you have a lower rating on a post, you know it's an upsetting or disagreeing topic. On the other hand, having a 5 star post makes the author of the post realize that his advice/information was greatly appreciated on another level other than a simple Thank you.

However the removal of this system is needed, because of the fact that if 1 starred enough, you are stripped of your Forum rank.

I don't believe that the star system needs to be removed, However, I do think that the requirements for Ranking on the basis of a star rating SHOULD be removed, and should have no bearing on someone's rank what-so-ever. I personally use the star system for a base of scaling how much agree-ability a person's post is or isn't.Its a simple difference of opinions.

So, In conclusion... The Star rating system is not flawed because of the issues of being 1 starred all the time... It's the conflict of this star system being based off of another system... 1 fails they all fail mentality. If you simply remove the rating system requirements from the forum rank system, I am sure the star system will truely be what it was intended to be.

Thanks for reading!

Also, by looking at the Forum Ranking Post by Garva, I realized something.

Who came up with those numbers?!

I mean come ON! 1000 Posts for Jedi Master and a 48 Month Minimum. If you are playing a game for 2 years minimum, You can average up to10 posts a day if you are a 'Good' community member. By that I mean, You are checking the boards regularly for player advice and the such and providing the community with... well communication. If you do the math for10 posts per day @ 730 days that's roughly 7,300 posts. And many members who have only played 20 months have near 10,000 Posts. I think that the post count requirements should be increased for rank as well. I see people with 50 some-odd posts with higher ranks that I do, Sometimes only a few months older than me.

Make it hard to get those nice colorful titles so people will actually start making a difference in their community.

Really, I must admit that it is a bad idea from the onset. Some people are too competative for other people, and some people are just..... ummmm jerks.

I sometimes wonder what it would be like to have a star wars galaxies game where one shot kills people, if it hits the right area anyway.

There could be some serious penalties for being a "murderer".

Participation in a consentual fight would have no penalties. They would be considered "Double suicides" by a overbearing, but Libertarian as far as death goes, Empire.

You should also be able to shoot your gun into anything you want, but sometimes shooting would have serious consequences, like a shoot on sight local police force showing up, or a bounty comes up for you.

The bounty hunters, low sorts of people by anyone's standards, then get an alert (if they are on the right planet or area) about someone being wanted by the authorities.

Then they could also put into the game "capture" weapons that would make it so you can capture someone instead of kill them. But if the crime was serious, the kill licenses go out and that person can be killed by any bounty hunter.

Even eventually, someone might get marked by the Empire as an open bounty and anyone that can kill them gets the reward money.

Some places would be more dangerous to go to. The less civilized planets would be free kill zones because there are no authorities there to do anything. Those planets might be a bit stricter in the larger cities with more police to respond.

Of course, in large fights, missions, or factional events you would be made clear of the wanted by the Empire thing and only accrue factional points to the groups involved.

I would propose that they do something like this with a new server. It could be an expansion... maybe... perhaps they could try it out for a while and if it didn't work, they could use those servers for something else.

First they should do it by just making it possible to be killed with one shot, like in reality, and if it is popular to people, they could keep it and maybe even improve it if it kept enough people in the game.

Ummm....

OH yeah, so overall, you should probably get rid of the stars, although, I do like to see when people give me 5 stars for a post.

Mostly people rate posts that they feel strongly about or strongly about the content. Posts that are , don't get rated. Apart from making people rate every post they read or restricting the system to respected members of the community, I don't see stars working out well.

Instead of rewriting my post again I will paste the applicable part:

How do you know that the "feedback" you are getting isnt due to a griefer or flip-side due to someone with a few dozen friends 5-starring their post? The answer is, under the current system, you dont. Wether its tied to forum rank or not is completly besides the point. You take pride on giveing good advice, yet you have some snot-nosed 12 year old pissed because he didn't get his auction item decide to "have some fun" by going and one starring all your past and present posts. You give advice to a noob on an issue. The noob has the common sense to look at your post histoy and what does he see 100+ plus post with a 2 or 1 star rating. Noob disregards your good advice.

I cant make this any clearer to you Dood. THIS HAS ABSOLUTELY, POSTIVELY NOTHING TO DO WITH FORUM RANK. IT IS ABOUT PREJUDICAL BAIS BASED ON A STAR RATING. In other words people decide on the integerty and/or honor of your post based on the star rating you have been given on past and/or present posts. THIS is a griefers power. THIS is why one starring is such an affective way of griefing. I PERSONALLY in the past have passed up auctions and/or advice on a one star post just because it was one starred. And untill it happened to me I didnt understand it.

I am at a loss as to why people dont understand this, it has NOTHING, NILL, NADA to do with forum rank but rather the peception you receive from other players in regards to your posts based on the rating given to it by a griefer. I......I really dont know what is so hard to understand. It is honor and integrity issue not a rank issue. If you removed the link between rank and the star rating you STILL would have people griefing any and everything you post.If you auction an item, wether you are a Wing Commander or a New Member, if your post is one starred, people with common sense will either pass it up or question why you were one starred, most will pass it up. Why?????? Because of the one star bandit. And because the system is anyonomous you cant tell wether a griefer one starred a post or wether a guy with multiple account 5 starrs his posts to keep a high rating for forum rank or to seem extremely credible on the forums. Like I stated before I am at a loss as to why this is so hard to understand

Umm... Ok. Calm down man. It's just a few thoughts.

And besides... If you are Wing Commander, Odds are you are fairly well know. If you are a New Member, You are often asking the Wing Commanders and other Veterans their opinions.

I can understand your logic, as always there are 2 sides to a coin.
