Thread: The Falling Star....

The only part that I slightlyminded was that forum rank was partially based off of ratings, which made people who actually cared subject to people 1-starring for their own amusement. But since forum rank didn't matter all THAT much, it wasn't a huge deal.
My thoughts: Leave the rating system in, but don't tie it to anything. Its just a way for people to get feedback, say on RP posts or concept/idea posts, etc. Kind of like a survey tht you can't take TOO seriously because the survey target wasn't necessarily all that good, but it gives you a rough idea anyway.
Yeah, I'veposted manyrandom ideas and concepts, and I rely on the Star-System for reinforcement/constructive criticism. I think it should be 'debased' from forum-ranking so-to-speak, but not removed. Please give us the option to keep it.
For instance.. make a rating system comprised of a few positive flags for posts. Helpful, maybe a positive Roleplaying thread flag, and something for just a generally good post. Then put a limit of how many posts (I'd say 1) that a forum user can "rate" in a 24 hour period. By removing the negative aspects of a forum ranking system, you take the power away from those who abuse it, while still allowing helpful / good posts to be marked.

We would really love to hear your feedback regarding the star removal!
Whilst the problematic conflicts that arise from the star system, I still believe it provided its purpose. I, for one, make many community ideas known public via petitions or well thought out posts with detailed outlines, and sometimes the star rating systme (Which can be bad at times) served a purpose. If you have a lower rating on a post, you know it's an upsetting or disagreeing topic. On the other hand, having a 5 star post makes the author of the post realize that his advice/information was greatly appreciated on another level other than a simple Thank you.
However the removal of this system is needed, because of the fact that if 1 starred enough, you are stripped of your Forum rank.
I don't believe that the star system needs to be removed, However, I do think that the requirements for Ranking on the basis of a star rating SHOULD be removed, and should have no bearing on someone's rank what-so-ever. I personally use the star system for a base of scaling how much agree-ability a person's post is or isn't.Its a simple difference of opinions.
So, In conclusion... The Star rating system is not flawed because of the issues of being 1 starred all the time... It's the conflict of this star system being based off of another system... 1 fails they all fail mentality. If you simply remove the rating system requirements from the forum rank system, I am sure the star system will truely be what it was intended to be.
Thanks for reading!

Instead of rewriting my post again I will paste the applicable part:
How do you know that the "feedback" you are getting isnt due to a griefer or flip-side due to someone with a few dozen friends 5-starring their post? The answer is, under the current system, you dont. Wether its tied to forum rank or not is completly besides the point. You take pride on giveing good advice, yet you have some snot-nosed 12 year old pissed because he didn't get his auction item decide to "have some fun" by going and one starring all your past and present posts. You give advice to a noob on an issue. The noob has the common sense to look at your post histoy and what does he see 100+ plus post with a 2 or 1 star rating. Noob disregards your good advice.
I cant make this any clearer to you Dood. THIS HAS ABSOLUTELY, POSTIVELY NOTHING TO DO WITH FORUM RANK. IT IS ABOUT PREJUDICAL BAIS BASED ON A STAR RATING. In other words people decide on the integerty and/or honor of your post based on the star rating you have been given on past and/or present posts. THIS is a griefers power. THIS is why one starring is such an affective way of griefing. I PERSONALLY in the past have passed up auctions and/or advice on a one star post just because it was one starred. And untill it happened to me I didnt understand it.
I am at a loss as to why people dont understand this, it has NOTHING, NILL, NADA to do with forum rank but rather the peception you receive from other players in regards to your posts based on the rating given to it by a griefer. I......I really dont know what is so hard to understand. It is honor and integrity issue not a rank issue. If you removed the link between rank and the star rating you STILL would have people griefing any and everything you post.If you auction an item, wether you are a Wing Commander or a New Member, if your post is one starred, people with common sense will either pass it up or question why you were one starred, most will pass it up. Why?????? Because of the one star bandit. And because the system is anyonomous you cant tell wether a griefer one starred a post or wether a guy with multiple account 5 starrs his posts to keep a high rating for forum rank or to seem extremely credible on the forums. Like I stated before I am at a loss as to why this is so hard to understand

What you need to do is have off-topic spamming, moronic, arguing, banter threads removed that rightfully deserve the one stars.
