Thread: New Forum Version Known Issues
Seems this is a times Session now and not a persistant Cookie
Firefox 1.03
Issues:
1. Login password saves - Are not saving. I'm often prompts to login even when I haven't even left the site.
2. Login persistance - My brower refuses to stay logged in, even with default settings in IE.
3. Slow login response - Causes a failed login on many occasions, prompting me login once more.
4. Concurrent sessions - Open another window to the forums seems to invite login failure on the new window. (Original window remains logged in.)
5. Low preformance - I don't expect speedy gonzales, but page loads should be served faster than they are currently done. I hate that loading screen. This is in general off-peak hours, ofcourse things go down hill when traffic picks up.
6. Search - Is generally useless. It doesn't seem to reconize relevance or popularity in its criteria. Basic text searches are obsolete with such large indexes. We need more intelligent behavior. As a result, players must ask questions that have ben answered many times in the past because the search feature.
7. Search speed - Can be very slow.
Sugestions:
1. The lack of table support makes displaying structured data problematic.
2. The html support could use some updating to newer technologies such as CSS and DHTML formatting. I know there are issues with full support, but I'm sure some middle ground can be found.
3. I'd be nice to be able to upload a post edited locally with an html editor to ensure proper formatting. As it is, formatting for prsentation is difficult to do with the online editor.
4. There's no insert link button on either editor.
5. Make the default behavior open links in the same window. Most profient brower users know how to open to new window with just a shift click.
6. No option to quote a post other than the one you replied to.
I use IE on default settings using windows update versioning.
CraftAddict, I wish everyone laid out their issues as clearly as you did. Thanks!
I need to disagree slightly with some of your suggestions, however.
1.I would also very much like to see support added for the HTML "TABLE" tag or a functional equivalent. There've been times when I wanted to display text in a structured way to save space and be more understandable, but that'shard to do currently. If there's a way to implementsuch functionalitythat doesn't expose the forum to HTMLexploits, I would strongly encourage its implementation.
2& 3. Beyond tables, I don't believe the SWG forums need powerful presentation formatting features. Between the value of simplicity (which is a speed issue) and the potential exploits made possible by presentation interpreters, I would prefer not to see CSS, DHTML (JavaScript), or other suchpresentation mechanics added to the local editing system.
4. I wouldn't mind an "insert link" button/functionality, but it's not crucial to me since the "do it in the HTML editor" works just fine. It's a little cumbersome to have to go into the HTML editor to do it, but there are other problems that need to be fixed before this change.
5. If the window-opening behavior could be set as a personal preference, I'd be OK with making "reuse current window" the default option. Otherwise I'd prefer to have links open in a different window -- there's virtually no speed difference between the two approaches, and retaining the original window (and its text) is usually what I want to happen, anyway. It's also worth noting that SOE may prefer that links open up by default in a new window, since links aren't guaranteed to be to another SWG forum post, and popping up a new window has an understood association with alerting the user that the new site may no longer be controlled by the owner of the current site.
6. There's no simple option to quote a post other than the one currently being replied to, but the new "View discussion in popup" feature will allow you to review the current page of the thread, and you can copy and paste from other messages into your response. It's not perfect, but it's minimally functional.
These are just my personal views; others are welcome to weigh in on what they'd prefer to see.

New Forum Issue that has surfaced since last night's maintenance cycle:
Everytime I quote someone elses post and try submitting the post after inputting my message, I get an error message:
Your post has been changed because invalid HTML was found in the message body. The invalid HTML has been removed. Please review the message and submit the message when you are satisfied.
Bad Request
Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
By the way, I'd drop Lithium and go for Invision Power Board 2 - it really owns
eqlive's sessions are holding, even "fixing" the other forums' sessions.
log into swg forums, close browser, reopen forums. you must log in again.
go to eqlive forums, your login from last time you logged into eqlive is still there. Go back to swg forums, session is held, you will be logged into swgforum
In fact, the eqlive session will properly handle sessions across swg, eq2 and eqlive. Even when you first load the swg forums, you can use eqlive to maintain your login.
Infact, the most unreliable way to maintain your login, is by coming directly to swg forums, with eq2 forums a close second.
Even with eqlives session maintaining the login, it isn't persistant across brower sessions. You close the browser, and you will return ot a login screen on the swg and eq2 forums, whereas eqlive maintains its session.
ok, that was confusing enough trying to explain. I hope it came out coherent.

If you are using wyswyg in firefox or mozilla you will need to disable this in some cases to post or preview posts. Virrago uses firefox 1.0.3 and I use 1.0 and neither of us have any problem with the wyswyg mode but it could be due to some personal settings. As the lithium rep stated, these browsers are not supported but they are collecting the info about discrepancies for future possible releases.

Firefox 1.0 works fine (I am using it now yay) full WYSWYG support and all
That version is outdated and have several security issues. I suggest you update.....
Was just about to say that
Oh and i just posted fine with no problems (except the irrating login thing), with FF 1.0.3. I do have the wysiwyg thing turned off mind you, as I'd noticed before it was giving me javascript error in FF.
Regarding the apparent cookie problem, I have this info about the cookies FF currently has stored (courtesy of the webdev plugin):
Name memberName Expires At End Of Session
Name DYN_REGISTERED Expires At End Of Session
Name ssid Expires At End Of Session
Name DYN_USER_CONFIRM Expires At End Of Session
Name sony_visitor_uid Expires 17 June 2005 13:01:45
Name DYN_USER_ID Expires At End Of Session
Name sony_station_id Expires 31 August 2005 13:01:45
Name swg_menucontent Expires 30 April 2015 14:59:15
Name svpw Expires 17 June 2005 13:01:44
Name LiSESSIONID Expires At End Of Session
I removed any info about the values etc of the cookies just in case they're meant to be secret. Hopefully the Deltan can make use of this info and fix it
Edit: This happens in both Internet Explorer and Firefox.
