Tiggs,

A couple of weeks ago, there was a patch sent out - but the Euro servers weren't patched along with the US servers, in fact, IIRC - the Euro servers didn't get patched at all.

Perhaps something was not sent out back then that has caused all this to go pearshaped now?

@Tiggs - How can your Engineers NOT have an ETA.

I speak as a systems engineer. Part of our SLA is adisaster recovery procedure. We get 2 hours to investigate and evaluate the situation. We then outline a recovery plan, if that would take too long to implement we do a full server recovery. This takes 2.5 hours. The longest wecan possibly have a server out for is 5-5.5 hours. Our SLA gives us 6 hours before finiancial penalties come in to play. In reality we have a spare hot swap sitting there as soon as the issue hits we get one of the team to start the hotswap unit streaming from the most recent backup. If the decision is made to Roll Back, it's there ready... In the last 3 years We have never had a server outage for more than 3 hours. (I work on a 42 server network across 9 locations) small by SOEs Standards I know, but still these things can and should be planned for.

This is a wholey unacceptable situation.

Exactly that. SoE suffer no financial penalties by a server being out, so why should they waste time catering for it? The sad reality is (and SoE know this) that not enough customers will leave from an outage such as this to warrant such an action plan.

Information is passed on as it is had as many of you know that were in the launchpad chat last night. When there is no ETA it is simply because they don't know how long it will take. Sometimes it is hard for the engineers to give us an estimate on how long it will take to get a server back in service.

Is there any other information that you can give us like what is the problem, if this going to have an impact such as rollback or the like? This is looking quite serious if everything has been down for what is looking like over 15 hours of downtime.

No idea on a roll back yet at this time. Once we get more information I will update you.

Man i got such a bad feeling about this, we spent all day yesterday completing thehardest quests on mustafar until the server went down in the middle of the night.

There better not be any roll backs or warps that make me lose the completed quests so far and the loot/quest items i was able to acquire last night.

And just when i was about to write anice thread about how well SOEintroduced theexpansion this timeand how welleverything has been working...

The maintenance that is going on has nothing to do with the expansion. =(

i cant believe a company like Sony cannot goive more info out after 15 hours of downtime

It Beggers Belief!

You make a good point...

In all reality, I doubt anyone was working on your server, and the problem is just now being addressed most likely. I think its the PST team that also deals with the Euro servers, and it was after the normal workday when they took your server down.

But correct me if I’m wrong Tiggs!

mind telling us what it is then? I'm rather angry about the fact that we get no clue what's up and when we can play again than the downtime itself.

Tiggs, thank you for some kind of answer. However if it is Maintenance it is planned and should be properly scoped in terms of man hours, if only to budget for your human resoource. You should know howlongmaintenance will take. This appears as if it is NOT maintenancebut you are responding to an unplanned issue. Issue resolution I can understand being open ended. However, this is no excuse for not having a DR (Disaster Recovery)plan.
