rflmao good luck with that! The "First!" thing have been going on since the very begining of the SWG board. (meaning well before the game hit live, or even before the beta.)

Unless they make a strictly enformed "No "first" posting" rule, I doubt it will go away. I guess it could be seen as off topic tho. But hey, not opening that can of worm here.

I loved the idea of the star rating, I loved being "5 star'ed" as much as anyone, but when you get 1 starred just for the fun of it and then all your friend come to 5 star you to "balance things out" and then another friend ask help because her WHOLE tracker was 1 star'ed by someone with a grudge, there is a problem with the system. lol My own rating is way inflated beyound my actual real "reputation", and for some others it is the other way around.

After over a year and a half The Star Rating system on the StarWars Galaxies Forum is saying farewell….

While in concept the system is a good Idea, it has not been used in a predominately positive way on our forums

The system is intended to be used to show how helpful a thread is and to occasionally weed out bad post. It has become a system of “I agree or Disagree” or “I like or Don’t Like You” and is used as a tool of grief.

What this change means for you?

1. You will no longer be able to rate posts
2. Those of you with “star granted” ranks WILL get to keep the use of your new icons. From now on though, those icons will instead be associated with the rest of the “time and post” based ranks.
3. The “Star Granted” ranks will be fit into the regular rank system (same titles and similar times)
4. This will not effect any “specialty” titles, and we may add more specialty titles in the future.
5. If you see a post that is inappropriate please make sure to use the “report to moderator” link.

Your welcome to submit your feedback for future consideration but please keep it civil.

I agree that alot of the time the star system wa misused, but I have to say I'm sorry to see the system gone. i regularly watched the system to see if something that I might not comment on needed a look. I also felt it was important to help accurately show a way of agreeing with a post for the sake of "voting" without having to subject the community to my (often long winded )responses.

I'd love to see some system of a binary "agree or disagree" system that did not affect rank or have any sort of cumulative value.

It could appear like a poll result? 50%agree, 50% disagree out of 2 posts.

That way the community could get a sense of where things in a discussion are going fro those folks who generally chose not to repeat what's already been said.

Often times it's helpful to see wherea discussion is going.

P.S. This isn't because i was on my way to master jedi on the forums

P.Sx2: I realize the agree / disagree wasn't intended. It is however what it seems to have turned into when used with no ill intent. It kind of lends credence to creating this kind of a system if possible.

Doubtfulbut eh ok here goes...

I actually liked it because when you have the 6+ page Threads that are giant flame fests against a particular guild or person you can skim over the bad posts where people are just postingcry morenewb or garbage like that and read the goodposts that are semiintelligent and thought out.

Also you get a real good sense on who the hated people are on the forums reaaal fast becuse they get 1 starred everytime. Respected members of the community get 5 starred everytime.

So the star system works great in thisway too because each thread basically becomes a poll of sorts seeing on who disagrees and who doesn't.

1 stars are also great in profession forums for 1 staringpeople who start posting stuff that belongs in the trade forums.

1 stars are great also to make a stupid or well thought out post funny. You see a post of someone's dog getting hit by a car and it gets one starred...well sorry but i chuckle everytime i see stuff like that...besides people always cancel it out by 5 staring it anyway.

Finally the reason why this system is abused is becuase you DEVs decided to hand out rewards for star ratings. If you get ridda the rewards the stars are just as worthless as yer gonna make em right now. Just get ridda the rewards please and the griefingwill stop.

Bad idea DEVs I dont like it.

I hate the star rating system. I give 5 stars almost exclusively (like most people do) so the whole concept really is compromised.

Yes, please kill it. I even have a very high rating and I hate it. It's used as a silly "get even" tactic way too much and I am always way more concerned about what the stars that are there are "telling people" and less over whether I can judge if it's a popular post.

Die, stars! Die!
