After over a year and a half The Star Rating system on the StarWars Galaxies Forum is saying farewell….

While in concept the system is a good Idea, it has not been used in a predominately positive way on our forums

The system is intended to be used to show how helpful a thread is and to occasionally weed out bad post. It has become a system of “I agree or Disagree” or “I like or Don’t Like You” and is used as a tool of grief.

What this change means for you?

1. You will no longer be able to rate posts
2. Those of you with “star granted” ranks WILL get to keep the use of your new icons. From now on though, those icons will instead be associated with the rest of the “time and post” based ranks.
3. The “Star Granted” ranks will be fit into the regular rank system (same titles and similar times)
4. This will not effect any “specialty” titles, and we may add more specialty titles in the future.
5. If you see a post that is inappropriate please make sure to use the “report to moderator” link.

Your welcome to submit your feedback for future consideration but please keep it civil.

Good riddance to the rating system. Its a horrible diea which has been horrifically abused by cowards to harrass people.

Although its giving us some giggles on Chimaera's Forums at the moment as people are 1 starring for sheer amusement because its their last chance to do it before it vanishes.

I liked the idea of the star system but it did become a way flame people out side of the game so ZI guess I won't miss it too much.

I was more likely to read the 5*ed and 1*ed posts first

I will be glad to see it go. It seemed like a good idea to allow people to see posts that were genuinely good posts, but most of the time it seems to be used by one star bandits who one-star everything they disagree with or everything that a certain poster says no matter what the content is.

Edit: See how someone is going through and one-starring anyone who doesn't like the star system?

I'm very happy to see if go. Now people won't just one star posts they don't agree with. Should make people actually discuss why they don't like it instead of just trying to hide the thread from everyone else. Great job on getting rid of it!

Actually GarVa I think it is a good call, to remove it.

I just wonder what will happen in the case when you have 2 "ranks" fitting the same "time", with as only difference the number of posts and rating. Guess it will stay the same but the "and rating" part will go away. The explanation is not very clear on that.

Ah well no big deal, maybe once it is done giving us a "updated rank charts" would be neat. But not a game breaking issue if we don't have it, for sure.

I wish there had been a way to use the stars as intended. On paper it looks like a great idea to point to the exceptional posts and to mark trolling posts.

In reality, you are right. It has become a 'voting on issues' tool or a source of grief.

Perhaps it could be replaced by another sort of flag, placed only by moderators, administrators, developers, or CR staff, acting alone or at the request of correspondents, to flag unusually helpful posts or exceptionally well-worded insights into current issues or even exceptionally well-described bugs. The flags should have no effect on forum rankings, but should reward someone who has taken the time to assemble informative summaries, proposals, or FAQs, while at the same time helping someone with limited time find the particularly useful posts. Not all good thoughts belong in the stickies, but they are all worth reading.

The star system is awful. We have some people in the community that go back and rate every single post a user has with one star just to harass them. It's well past time that you guys took care of the situation.

Hmm... i dont know, for me the average rating of a person was always an indicator to see if the person is a "good" or "bad" poster

same for idea threads, to see if the general public likes the idea or not, even the ones to shy to post a reply
And now everyone, even the biggest trolls and flamer can get the star rankings, even faster if they spam the board more and more

Well, I am torn, I guess. I kind of like the rating system because people DO use them as intended quite a bit. I like having a good overall rating and when I see I am 5 starred I know for sure someone agreed with me. If I see lower I know how the community feels.

Like it or not, the star rating DOES reflect the community. If anything, I would like to see you encourage its use rather than remove it.
