Thread: You do not have permission to use simple HTML in your signature what?

I am replying to other peoples posts...copying their sig to my e-mail....changing to "edit at HTML"...and pasting into my signature with WISWIG check marked.
I am getting this error: You don't have permission to have simple HTML in your signature.
I am using IE
I am not getting "style equals" errors.
What is the cause of this?
How do I create a sig that is eve just a duplicate of someone else's current sig style, with only the name changed?

you probably just have either invalid html or html that the forum does not accept.
try only using tags like <font> or <br>etc, no fancy tags. <div> is not allowed im pretty sure.
you also need to be careful with the attributes you use, color and size should be fine, family also i think.
and then you also need to watch out that you close all the tags you use correctly.

mine has no style tag and it still doesnt work.

Bingo. the < DIV > statements are pervasiive.
I don't know how to write HTML so I just adjust the text, fonts, spacing and colors and save using MS Word 2003. What file format do I have to use to save this in a format that Lithium will accept, using MS Word 2003?

Just discovered something else the sig specifically doesn't like. Stay away from nested tags. Even though the graphical editor may write it like this...
<font color=#AAAAAA> White <font color=#FF0000> Red </font> </font>
Write it like this in the sgnature.
<font color=#AAAAAA> White </font> <font color=#FF0000> Red </font>

OK, a few things to note.
1. This forum is EXTREMELY fussy about HTML. I suggest you use a good HTML editor check your code. Try Websphere or Dreamweaver.
2. All closing tags must be used and in the correct order...ie 'bold' 'italics' 'text here' 'italics' 'bold'
3. When adding your signature code, the forum auto adds several line breaks at the start. It also adds a line break at the end of every line of html, so make sure all of your html code is on 1 line.
4. Your sig can be no more than 6-8 lines (depending on text size it seems)
5. Styles are not allowed.
I finally got my sig to work by being very careful with tags.
If anyone needs an example, send me a PM.

hm, chris, how did you create yours?
I've seen several people with HTML quasi graphics around, but I can hardly imagine you did it like I did mine... with a text editor.

Ok so here is what I have figured out for making signatures
1. Every bit of formatting needs its owntag..
Tags are as Follows
-
[DIV align=center] [/DIV] -
[FONT color=#000000] [/FONT] -
[FONT face="Name"] [/FONT] -
[FONT size=X] [/FONT]
2. For how ever many formatting options you put on a line of text you need that many Closers I guess you could call them.. So if you wanted to say
BIG RED!!!
You would need this HTML..
[DIV align=center][FONT color=#DD0000] [FONT size=7] BIG RED!!! [/FONT][/FONT][/DIV]
I did my Signater below Item by item doing the above and finally got it to work.
