Thread: Communication Breakdown: TEF Removal

While I am personally definitely in favor of keeping TEFs, the thrust of this thread is regarding how the change was communicated and the fact (at least i believe its a fact) that a change announced only after it was essentially set in stone. Even if you are for getting rid of the TEF, I think everyone can agree there is great disagreement in the community as to how this should be handled. Perhaps its ok to announce a change that most everyone will love whithout the kind of concept feedback I am asking for. But surely for one as contentious as this, there should have been a concept thread.

i am glad, that there was not much to discuss about, because it will stop griefing at once! removing the tef system and changing it as proposed makes the game much more fun - except for the griefers of course

i fear that if it would have been put up for discussion a small minority of people who seem to be kings of rant and always screeming loudest would have had an oppertunity to ruin the change for good - and i am very happy they weren't given this oppertunity!

The updates are posted now so players can see the designs and give us feedback. The TEF changes are still in development and won't appear on Test Center until after Publish 13.0.

AndI am sure you read the many post that feel TEFs need to remain in the game as well, but I guess those weren't given as much weight.

Butmy question is then, is at this stage of the process, are you open to reversing the high level concept decision to remove TEFs or is the purpose of the feedback just to work out how the details will work? If you aren't open to that kind of feedback at this stage, my point stands. But if as I fear, the decision has already been made and set in stone, this is a situation that needs to be improved upon for future changes. Otherwise, you are just going to alienate more and more of your playerbase, but not giving them meaningful input.

I am one who has argued to keep TEFs. I thought it made perfect sense from an RP perspective, that I should be able to shoot at someone who is killing NPCs on my side. On the other hand,I've decided that allthe extra hoops we have to jump through thanks to TEFs make it not worth having them.

Why should I not be able to walk into my own house after I shoot some Stormtrooper? Why should my friendbe kicked out of our cities Cantina cause I forgot to go Covert before I traded with him? and while I'm not totally against forced PvP myself, why should someone be put into a position where they have to defend themselves against the Uber (read: jedi) that are trying to climb the FRS. Obviously a common soldier will have no chance against that.

So now.. I can't shoot someone thats shooting at my PvE Base... How sad... on the other hand, now the number of people who will be willing to participate in the GCW will be much greater, because fightingfighting for your team does not equaldeath by Lightsaber anymore.

As you can see byyour message rating here and the flood of positive responses in the other threads, more people agree with removing TEF than not.

Some of my pet peeve bugs:
•Armorsmith protection layers were not converted with the CU.
•Ship Details window does not close when you click "Travel" resulting in the message "You have lost the target. Closing interface."

Perhaps I am wrong about the mood of the community on this issue. Certainly many people have strong feelings on either side of the issue, but my point in this thread is that there should have been an in concept thread as soon as they decided they wanted to make this change.

Let suppose you and many others in gamereally like a particular aspect of the game and for a month or so the Devs have been working on replacing that game mechanic with something you don't like. Wouldn't you have prefered that announced they were working on the issue in advance so you could comment on the goals and concept, as opposed to the details?

Decisions are rarely final unless they are already in the game...and even then, things can change. If we get overwhelming negative feedback on an idea, we change it or reconsider it. We do our best to avoid proposing ideas that we know will be hated by a large majority of our players and our Correspondents do an excellent job helping us with that.Very few, if any, changes are ever universally liked.

liked by all? hmm, let me think?:

- 80 itmes in inventory
- no lots on multipassanger ships
- improved spawn
- fixed rubberbanding
- more items in houses and reduced lots requirement
- np apps
- politician free of skillpoints

I cannot think of anybody who will not like those

I see the issue of the TEF being an issue of playstyle. The game has a fuzzy line between PvP and PvE play and that was causing problems. This problem overlapped into roleplaying, Jedi Bounties, non-targetable healers, and griefing.

The new system isn't new. It's the JtL faction system. The community has already given a great deal of feedback on the system. In general, it works and it works well. They put up a thread on the GCW which included much feedback on GCW issues. So in my mind, they have already talked to the community.

/waves good bye to TEF's

not all but i woudl say alot fo who are going to complain about the removal of TEF's are those who love to have gank squads or griefers. This woudl fix alot of problems 1 jedi just raping players because of a TEF. now jedi before you yell at me i have a jedi as well and on the bright side this should fix the gank squads against us jedi. no more having 5 bh just a young padawan just so they can get their kicks. Most of them hide behind the phrase but i am RP'ing my profession, but those same people are invest 3 and then all other professions. again bye bye TEF's i cant wait for this to hit live

And since you didn't find an equal number of TEF system prises you figure that the people complaining about it make up the majority.......

so......just in case.....I really do like to PvP, and though their are a ton of people that complain about it, I hope you don't remove it.
