For a more or less working moderating system check out Slashdot

However it is a complex system with meta-moderators that moderate the moderators. And disallowance to post in a thread you have "starred".

Cheers

We would really love to hear your feedback regarding the star removal!

Im very pleased in one way, yet displeased in anotherto hear this. While in concept the star rating system would have worked well, however... GarVa is 100% correct in saying that its become a form of griefing, and a popularity contest. I myself was griefed through this system, to which I went from a 4.2 rating to a 2.9 in mere days.

This in mind, the star rating gave for a misleading indicator when players tried to post to the trade forums, etc.

The only way I'd want the forum system to stay in place is if we (and others) could see how they rated our posts. This shouldn't be to hard to do, as a rating would just be associated with a name. The collect names per post would then be displayed under some option.

This would prevent 1 star bandits from griefing silently, as clearly their "internet bulliness" would be gone.

Perhaps you should keep this as a considersation for the future.

Btw, you guys (tiggs, garva, virrago) never responded to my request I sent you via PM with respect to my thread titled "Dear Faithful and Beloved one-star bandit"

i've never been bothered by the rating system and truthfully most of the people with higher star ratings over time do tend to be the more thoughtful posters

but yeah 1 star bandits litter every board so i can see where some people might be very bothered by this

oh well just give me light purple before it goes and i'll be happy

Although I do agree with you that the star rating system has been abused and made almost pointless I do still see a future for it. I propose the ability to rate a mail when you post a reply to the message. This not only forces readers to justify their star ratings (and possibly advertise their vote on the reply message) but also provides valuable feedback when browsing threads to quickly see whose opinions have caught other's imaginations. Hopefully this will aid you, the Devs, with a tool to judge the popularity of subject matter.

Sounds great to me. Just realize that you'll probably get a barrage of "report to moderator" requests... lol. Everyone has a different idea of 'appropriate' regardless of what rules you choose to post.

AKYI - Rebel Lieutenant * Officer * Alliance Pilot * Elder Heavy Swordsman * Master Explorer - Moenia, Naboo, Starsider

THE OCEP'FA FAMILY- An unfortunate family of Imperial Twi'leks: Atrasi (Starsider) * Mintrasi (Test Center) * Itrasi (JTL Beta) * Zitrasi (Combat Upgrade Beta) * Petrasi (RotW Beta) * Zetrasi (TOW Beta) * Botrasi (NGE Beta)

I support being able to "live" in the world of SWG, not just fight in it.

After over a year and a half The Star Rating system on the StarWars Galaxies Forum is saying farewell….

While in concept the system is a good Idea, it has not been used in a predominately positive way on our forums

The system is intended to be used to show how helpful a thread is and to occasionally weed out bad post. It has become a system of “I agree or Disagree” or “I like or Don’t Like You” and is used as a tool of grief.

What this change means for you?

1. You will no longer be able to rate posts
2. Those of you with “star granted” ranks WILL get to keep the use of your new icons. From now on though, those icons will instead be associated with the rest of the “time and post” based ranks.
3. The “Star Granted” ranks will be fit into the regular rank system (same titles and similar times)
4. This will not effect any “specialty” titles, and we may add more specialty titles in the future.
5. If you see a post that is inappropriate please make sure to use the “report to moderator” link.

Your welcome to submit your feedback for future consideration but please keep it civil.

Pretty cool. Sometimes I would read through the forums and wonder exactly was meant by the term 'Star Wars'. Get it? 'Star Wars'...

P.S. Bruce Lee would PWN Chuck Norris

I have to admit the only reason I was ever worried about being 1-starred was because I wouldn't get future forum ranks, which look cool. With them no longer requiring ratings to attain, I'm all for getting rid of the star system.

What about passing on a good thread to you guys? Generally if a thread is well liked it can get dozens of stars meaning dozens, if not more, of the community likes it and wants to get your attention. How will we get it now if the "awesome" thread is just like every other in appearance?

-I support a Galactic Civil War fought between regular, average players... Simply strict, hardlined Imperials & freedom lovin' Rebels fighting for control of the galaxy. A Galactic Civil War fought not with glowsticks or lightsabers, but with blasters, lances, and how much guts you have. A Galactic Civil War which reflects the timeline, the destruction of the Death Star, the absolute control which the Empire has and the brave Rebels trying to break up that reign... The extinction of all but a few rare and special Jedi. That my friends, is the Galactic Civil War and that is what we have to aim for.
