I think that it is good that it leave but...
I think it would be great if Devs could rate posts to indicate that a specific post is good. I think that would promote some of the right behaviour

Very good decision to get rid of the stars. "Star Wars" should happen in game, not in the boards.

The system is intended to be used to show how helpful a thread is and to occasionally weed out bad post. It has become a system of “I agree or Disagree” or “I like or Don’t Like You” and is used as a tool of grief.
The reasons that the stars became a "tool of grief" is because you all attached rewards to the stars in the first place. That is what gave the motivation to 5-star your friends and 1-star people you don't like -- rather than rating the messages.
If the community is mis-using the rating system, it is b/c you all pointed the way.

We would really love to hear your feedback regarding the star removal!
My 2. reply in this thread:
Could we maybe get some other way of recommendation for "good" Threads?
Maybe a system whereeveryforum membercan give a post one star (not like the old one star) and the rating visible on the thread overview would increase with the numer of stars the Thread gets.
The only way to "grief" with such a system would be not to vote and that could hardly be described as "griefing"

I'm glad you're removing the star system - it has not served as a reliable indicator of the quality of a post. I would rather that people focused on exchanging good info and feedback on these Forums instead of getting distracted by rating wars.

I'd like to see a system whereby you can get starred for being useful and the more ppl star you the more stars the thread gets. However you wouldn't have an opposite so noone could actually one star you or reduce your stars. So uniinteresting threads would just have no stars while the most read and informative would end up with 5 stars.

Star System is off, People that had "star" granted ranks, will keep them until the next higher "normal" rank kicks in. (and the higher star ranks that no one has reached yet, are now part of the non ranked system)
