Wolve:

Switching to your LP after using a commando special only counts as working after the delay has expired. Game mechanics I guess. I think its stupid, though, firing off a flame and then stuffing your FT in your pocket, in terms of, I guess, the roleplay of a commando.

I got hit by a grand wrix yesterday for 947 damage. Kinda crazy, if you ask me. The real problem with that number is... I have a FULL suit of composite armor with no less than 50% kinetic resist....

Don't make me do a DPS analysis Rencon. Actually, lots of people have, and the dps never favors the commando, only the initial hit. And PvP matters much less than PvE, imo.

Let me start with I just got Novice Commando last night. I hope the new changes to not effect my decision.

It does seem like the devs are trying to balance the game so brawlers can be effective in groups. But think about it. There is really no way a brawler should be effective in a fight with the creatures in the game. Even someone like Bruce Lee would not have a change if you threw him in a cage with a tiger. Then there should be no way a brawler should have a change fighting most of the creatures in the game.

Also, I think most of you would agree, if you had a gun and Bruce Lee was 50m away running at you to kick your butt, my money is on the guy with the gun. I just think even the attempt to balance melee with armed combat is unrealistic and very annoying.

We're playing a game where I can bring you back from the dead, instantly heal wounds, carry3 AT-STs and 16 rancorsin my pocket, carry 50 rocket launchers in my backpack, and drugs make you 6 times stronger without killing you.

Education time.

Commandos do get stun and blind. Commandos also get bleeds for every pool (something you only half-heartedly mention).

And let me introduce you to the heavy swordsman... No blind. No stun. No knockdown.

WRONG... we gain access to bleedsand a stun (because we are marksmen) but we do not gain them because of the Commando skills. Yes we are marksmen and we get the health, action and mind bleeds from thatbut we can only use one with the weapons we gain as Commandos. I hear you complaining that you dont get these either, yet you can target a specific pool (mind) which we cannot unless again we go back to weapons we got as marksman or the Launcher Pistol. The launcher pistol was never intended to be a major weapon in our arsenal, hence the fact that we dont get any extra skill adds to it or any extra manuveurs. Hey, maybe instead of trolling the other classes boards to try to bring down their classes and somehow make yourself feel better why not develop ideas on how to make the Swordsman better...like more abilities or something unique for the class.

You master Marksman. That means any Marksman ability counts. To say otherwise is just weird. "Commando" is more than the commando boxes.

Ok, to start out, I am going to point out that I have not read the whole post, I only read the first half of the first page and second half of the last page, so please, I repeat please bear with me.

I understand both sides of the argument, but here is my opinion on the matter. As Commandos we are seasoned warriors. All that we do is fight. The closest parallel I can draw in our world is a soldier. Soldiers spend a long long time training to become well versed in combat. Our training in combat is reflected from the fact that we have 5 times the combat prerequisites that other professions like the pistoleer, rifleman, carbineer, or any of the other elite professions.

Now, the way it should be is that due to these prerequisites, commando should be far more experienced in combat than should those other classes. Now of course if a rifleman was fighting a commando, and both used rifles, the rifleman should have an advantage. But if the commando is in his own element, he should have the advantage over the rifleman.

Soldiers do not spend many years training for battle just to lose ina fight with a member of the NRA. The same should go for Commandos. Now, of course we would now come into the question of balance. Yes, absolutely yes commandos should be balanced. But, balance does not mean allow any other player to be able to beat a commando one on one. Remember your average elite profession allows the player to chose up to two more, whereas the commando can only pick up one extra.

So what does that mean when it comes to combat? A pistoleer would be able to pick up multiple medical skills (perhaps even master doctor) as well as another proffesion. These extra skill points allow the pistoleer added versatility. Versatility that the commando does not have as much of. So once again we come to the question of balance. Is that in balanced? No, quite simply it is not. However, where the extra skill points are spent can bring balance. If the pistoleer invests in a brawler profession as well, their melee resistance and attack should soar. This would allow the player to not only give the pistoleer the ability to take the damage to the commando but also, it would allow them to get in close and allow for more balance to the individual player.

But what about the players that also have to spend more skill points than the average elite profession? Smugglers, Combat Medics, and Bounty Hunters to name a few. Well here is where you need to question the origin of the proffesion, a smuggler for example is not mainly a combat proffesion, therefore a commando should be able to beat them, as should a combat medic be beaten. But a bounty hunter... This profession is designed to eradicate other humanoids, and eventually other players.

What is my analysis on how the Bounty hunter should compare to the commando? Well, a bounty hunter is the king of Player vs Player combat, but then again a commando is a seasoned soldier. In the end the bounty hunter and commando should be equal at equal skill levels, the result of the fight should come down to tactics.

Overview: Commandos are meant to be titans of combat. If they weren't they would not have so many combat prerequisites. Yes, balance must be made for the commando, however, it should take more than one traditional elite profession to take one down... and the 2X damage multiplier is not the method to regulate commando power, it implies that a martial artist suddenly loses his muscle upon picking up a flamethrower or rocket launcher. The suggested balancing device? make them slower, let's be honest... a commando is not going any where quickly luging around all those heavy weapons. In fact all ranged professions should be slower to create balance for the melee professions, and commandos being the slowest, of course that is another post.

In the end, I too know that elitists may be somewhat annoying, however, we must realize that if our class was not powerful than another would be, and that is where they would go. You can't stop it by changing a class to be worse than it should be, because then you don't have a fun game. Instead we might as well bear it, because there is quite honestly not much we can do... although... Wolve I definately like your idea to move Flamethrower stat mods to Field support, although I do think it should be all commando stat mods.

Ok, I understand the "Your holding a big weapon so you are less able to defend yourself against punches, kicks and what not" argument that the 2.5x modifier settles. This makes perfect sense.

What confuses me is this.... We are REQUIRED to specialize in UNARMED combat.... let me say that again... we are REQUIRED to specialize in UNARMED combat. Shouldn't that give us SOME kind of melee defence? Maybe drop the modifier to 1 or 1.5 if they have to keep it, or leave it and remove Unarmed from out requirements.

If this has been covered already I apologize, and no, I'm not a dabbler. I'm 3343 and heading for Master as fast as I can.

Caelrie, just so you know... I did not train the complete commando tree just to be a Master Marksman with a flame rifle.

Take your head, and remove it from your @$$ I am NOT a pleasant person when it comes to ignorant asses like you.

Perhaps you'd like to see the devs adjust mind bleed, so that any creature hit with it all of a sudden warps on top of you and hits you with melee damage... i bet a helluva lot less riflemen would use it? Well that is EXACTLY what happens to us with ANY heavy weapon right now.

And would you then say to those Riflemen, oh well, you have your marksmen skills.. go use them.

I doubt you would.

So you never use your brawler or marksman stuff, huh? No wonder you think you're gimped. Perhaps you should pick an easier profession to play, like Dancer or maybe Image Designer. When you master that and get really good at this game (or so you think), maybe you can upgrade to Surveyor!

Use everything your profession offers. You only have yourself to blame if you don't. I use things I got at Brawler and Medic every single day.

Perhaps you don't know what it is I want. I think riflemen need some boosts, not nerfs.

And would you then say to those Riflemen, oh well, you have your marksmen skills.. go use them.

I don't have to. Most Riflemen make good use of the things they learned in the marksman tree. And a good number pick up Ranged Support 4 to help even more.

Riflemen haven't had the problem of being on God mode for a month. They had to learn how to actually fight instead of just running into the middle of everything and hitting the AE flamethrower attack.

Now it's your turn to learn how to play. And like I said above, if you find it too tough... NoviceImage Designerawaits. You can be useful by changing my lipstick color or something, if that's not too difficult.

The real commandos, the ones who were commandos BEFORE the buffing up, are the ones who have my respect. They actually learned how to play the freaking game. Punks like you can't play it without cheater mode.

hahaha oh i forgot to mention, I'm also a TK a smuggler and a pistoleer, and medic, and scout and i use ALL of them...

As for being gods WE NEVER WERE!!!

Now answer me this Caelrie, i did train an entire line of a melee profession, so why do i now take 2.5x melee damage...?

And as for being commando before the boost, I WAS... I remember trying to use a flamethrower that barely did 200 max damage

Once again:

Politely remove your head from up your @$$

Oh yeah... and let me see... my other characters.... on other servers... HAHA i have an ID lol, yeah i have a surveyor too, and a whole slew of other things, so dont EVER tell me i dont know how to play any other professions.

Yes. Yes it was. I figured I had to abase myself to your level to get you to understand. Apparently I was wrong. I assumed you had at least one or two synapses firing.

I played this game before we had our, as you term it "God mode", I have tactics to fight. I don't sit there spouting idiotic things like crippling ourselves by using weapons that are available to any class instead of my profession specific ones.

Being a heavy swordsman, and I'll admit as to not being familiar with the weapons of the class, do you use the two handed curved sword a lot? I doubt it. That is what you are telling us to do. I know you'll say you do to try and prove your point, yet I remember you saying your weapon (note singular) had AP2. So why should we be forced to use weapons that we gain at approximately the same skill level as your two handed curved sword.

I am NOT opposed to this nerf for the sake of the nerf. I AM opposed to this nerf because we no longer have a viable CLASS specific weapon. The HAR is broken, grenades are borked and frankly, I can't afford to shoot HW at ewoks and durnis.

If they fix the HAR and I can now attack things from afar? I am fine. Right now the misses on the move are ridiculous for a weapon that missed a lot to begin with.
