1. A new system will be brought in making weapons certed by level rather than proffession.
Weapon certs can now be tied to a combat level + a specific skill box + a specific race
So, all three of these scenarios could happen:
1. Weapon is certed to anyone with a combat level of at least X
2.Weapon is certed to anyone witha combat level of at least X AND have achieved Skill Box N
3. Weapon is certed to anyone with a combat level of at least X AND have achieved Skill Box N AND is of raceK.
Most weapons currently fall into "1", some fall into "2" (mostly iconic and profression defining weapons) and very few(currently only bowcasters)fall into "3".
This is a cool system as long as you let us know how it works before the CU hits live.

We wanted to stand out in the Cu guys well we are now. We are the ONLY combat class that gets 0 weapon certs, 0 specials and 0 counter moves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woot woot everybody will be standing in line to add commando to their template now.
DID YOU PEOPLE THINK BEFORE YOU DID THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so peaved i can hit cancel right now. I just cancel preoder on both my accounts as who knows what tomorrow will bring.
My god...drama people! You all love drama!!!
Ya think they didn't think about some of this before it went in??? Patience my friend, weapons can be tied to professions as well, this just opens upthe play space to other professions as well - doesn't mean you can't still use your favorite weapons!

Thank you Helios. Basically that was what I was trying to allude to everyone...but now its public
However, there is something seriously borked with the system...as ANY weapon currently can be equiped by ANY avatar over CL 54. Already had our fellow CL 75 Master Commando try it.
Not to mention....mine, and everyone's CL levels (1 for most...3 for Vin who was originally a CL 78) have dropped that Ive talked to.
Edit: Also, I hope you're aware that the Launcher Pistol is currently giving Pistol experience...making it very hard to level up to a Rocket Launcher...Message Edited by StarNick on 04-13-2005 11:46 PM
I'm... a bit surprised that such intricate new game systems are being designed at all instead of concentrating on more important balance related things, since SWG is not (supposed to be) a game where the 'level grind' is the main content like in a typical MMORPG. The way I see it, it's a game where you make your template and then live in the game world and enjoy the (now unfortunately rather sparse) content, not a game where it takes 3 months to level up to level 60 and there's nothing more to do so they introduce more levels...
Everyone's going to finish their skillset eventually, wouldn't it be better to actually think of people as finished templates and balancing them/creating content for them instead of concentrating on this novice-to-elite level stuff?
Remember JtL where you get the wonderful leveling missions and then when you're master.... there's absolutely nothing at all anymore?
No it means I can use them without ever training a single block in commando. Again Commando is the only proffession that has 0 weapon certs, 0 specials and 0 counter moves. With these changes why be a commando? To fire a FT? Nope you can fire it pretty well with the right proffession never even training novice commando. To for a rocketlauncher nope same as FT? To train and throw grenades nope if you're level 54 you can drop the pin and toss a proton. Train commando for specials nope have none. So why spend points on a proffession that offers you a little heavy weapon speed and accuracy, the only thing we get now that's unique is thrown weapon speed but guess what.... its broke.

Heh, I don't have to worry about any of it.

All commando weapons should be prof specific
This is where all of our specials are. I cant get carbine specials by picking up a low end carbine....

Cornith wrote:Then why aren't there weapon certs in the boxs and why as a 2222 pistoleer can i use a flamerthrower? There are still various issues to hammer out. I expect changes on this as much as anything else on TC.
The problem is the fix creates more issues than it fixes. Professional identity is out the window with this change unless you severely lock down classes of weapons to certain professions. It is nobile goal to have cross profession certifications where it makes sense however it makes no sense for someone with absolutely no rifle xp to be able to pick up a weapon that I use at novice rifle and use it to level Rifle I-IV in marksman. This system is worse than the problem you were trying to fix.
Helios if you're still out there...even if issues are hammered out, and this new system doesn't see much promise. Is there a "Plan-B" to help alleviate the problem of masters trying to level up in another disclipline?
Im shouting though
they lowered the combat exp required for novice, thus allowing me to become a novice commando and now i can't even shoot stuff, cause i'm not high enough CL.
<Brannoc> *RRR187* How will crafters place harvesters on planets now, since creatures kill low level characters so quickly?
<Helios_SOE> If you wish to gather resources in dangerous areas, you should either get a PSG or you could also hire some other players to protect you in the wilds.
Um, how many critters use energy weapons? And how casual of a player can you be if you need to hire muscle to check a harvestor? This in particular struck me as strange and worth mentioning.
Great anyone can use my weapons so glad I'm in a useless prof. Wouldn't make more sense to determine your 'level' with a weapon for leveling purposes?
Cool new speeder, not sure if I'll be able to get it or have to fund a newbs new carrer to get it.
Respec sounded cool, I wanted to try new things. But now I'll just have grind more to do that or stay Master Mostly Useless Marksman.
This stuff is really starting to piss me off. I was firmly in the wait and see camp but more and more I'm finding it hard to log on since I have the feeling after May 5th I wont be playing anymore. Most of these changes in no way help with what was identified as the problem with combat.
Armor was lessened and profs were made more balanced stop there.
Why bring in the interface change?
Why loose the Combat Queue?
Why tie weapons to combat levels?
Why should I continue to pay for this?
