i think the Commandos need to read the threa don the SL forum as well.

DiLune put it very well in one of his latest statements. If SL's do not get to use this thing at all whatsoever, then screw it. Why should we have wasted skill points for soemthing we can not utilize. Furthermore the Eweb is a powerfulw eapon, and such power should not be place dinto th ehands of a single individual. THe whole point of making it ajoint weapon is to give squads a very impressive weapon that inflicts a great amount of pain. Such power would HAVE to come from 2 different professions....you cant give commandos a weapon thats 2 or 3 times better than a T21 rifle and expect people to liek it.

If commando's cant agree to make this a joint venture weapont han simply put it shouldnt be int he game. I personally can not...either logically or by thinking about the continuity of the universe...believe that this weapon should be utilized to full effectiveness by a single commando.

The only alternative would be to create the Eweb as a relatively weak weapon that does not fulfill the role the Eweb has. We want to make soemthing powerful and worthwhile.....soem of the commandos would have it for themselves all alone. Well the devs are not going to give you an uber weapon liek this to use solo. SO either accept it as a joint venture and group weapon (because thats what it is! how many men ar eon a mortar team? how many men in WWII mad eup a browning .50 cal team? the answer is not ONE..but more thna 1.......how many ST's did you see setting up the Eweb int he movies MORE THAN ONE) or end upw ith a really dumbed down and graceless version fo this weapon for yourselves.

Who cares if SL's are NOT heavy specialists.........it was probably an SL who trained your commando butt int he first place in real life lol The point is SL's are indeed technically trained to high standards and as DiLune said they are NOT a support class but a front-line fighting unit bolstering class. We are ther eon the front lines, we have training and skill.

We arent asking to have specials...maybe just speed and accuracy mods given to the weapon and a slight ability to use it ourselves. Commandos would still get allt he niftier specials with it more thna likely. Anyway you cant expect the devs to drop somehting liek this in the Commando's lap........the Eweb is a larger and multi-crew weapon system. Any other way of doing it is completely circumventing the classification of weapon it is plus circumventing what was seen int he movies and the logical nature of the weapon system. It is not for solo use.

Theres no reason this can tbe done...it is a great idea.

what I think is funny is...

as far as i am aware this idea originated int he SL forums. Now im not sure whetehr DL approached garv or garv approached DL on it first RECENTLY....but i am pretty sure this idea sprouted in the SL forums. Now that moves ar ebeing taken to try and get this wonderfulw eapon to become a reality peopel want it all for themselves.

Fromw hat ive seen no one in the SL community wants to have this baby all to themselves....nor fromw hat ive seen do we even want HUGE bonuses when using it. It is just irritatign that now all of a sudden people are saying "we should have this all for us"

If Commandos get damage mods and specials and SL's grant speed and accuracy MODs then whats the problem.

Again you are taking what I am saying the wrong way.I will break down what I think it should be and please hear me out on what I am saying.

1) Master Commandos get certification for this weapon

2) Low Accuracy and Damage Modifiers are given to Commandos at master, but NO speed mods.

3) Commandos can take out gun solo, BUT due to low accuracy and damage modifiers he is very inefficient with it. (also depending on mechanics, if you are not grouped and nearbya SL it takes a longer amount of time to deploy/pack)

4) Commandos and SL use it at the same time giving double to triple the amount of accuracy and damage as well as a speed mod. (Maybe also commandos only get to use very limited specials when solo but get major ones when grouped)

5) As a method of teamwork, the commando is unable to target with the weapon, leaving the SL to "spot" their next target, while the commando operates the specials for the gun. (This is mearly a suggestion of teamwork so that the SL has an important role with the weapon's operation)

6) Master SL is the only person able to help operate the weapon. (This gives more meaning to being master)

7) The speed mod would come from a specialized ammo pack that only a master SL is certified for. This is mainly due to real life where typically one person carries the gun, while the other person loads/carries the ammo. (A side effect of this would give weaponsmiths another thing to craft and specialize in. The better the pack, the better the speed. This is really negotiable, but would add to another profession while helping ours. To be honest if this is going to be such a powerful gun, then there should be many specialized aspects to it.)

8) Number 7 could also spin off other items for the SL or Commando, such as a better tripod that would make deploy/pack faster.

These all seem pretty reasonable. I dont understand why you feel that I am undermining the SL profession. I really want this to be a joint effort as far as the gun's maximum usefullness and potential are concerned. However, solo use would still be given to the commandos if at all and not to SL.Because of this I do NOTfeel that squad leaders should have aline centered around the E-Web, therefore no skill points are used on this weapon. He is capable of supporting the commando due to hispast combat experiences and therefore at master has enough expertese to provide this role.

As you stated before:

"Yes youa re the heavy weapons specialists"

If this is the onlydisagreement on the issue given all of the points that I put into this threadand you still feel that this should not be pursued, then I really dont know what will make you happy at all. These points give an awesome balance to the power of theweapon, as well as massive coordination and dependablity between the professions.

i think we are on the same page now

I would still say allow the SL to use it, in case the commando takes a hit or something...an SL should be technically trained enough to use the weapon at basic function level. However, they would lack the damage and specials a commando can do. Hence....when both SL and COmmando are present the commando will always be the one operating it because they have the specials and damage with which to bring about the maximum level of damage...no SL in their right midn would take over shooting the Eweb if a Commando was around.

but SL's should be able to provide backup if the commando takes a hit and goes down.

After Reviewing a post on the SL Forums about added stuff from TC on their Revamp...My vision of PvP just got 10X better (a 20-man capacity PERSONAL TRANSPORT!!!)

Anyways, there were also talk of adding an E-Webb Certification hehe...this is why im making another post on this topic...ok here goes..

SL Should *NOT* have cert

Instead, this should be a "special heavy weapon" and would go into a combined Special Hvy Weapon tree - Or master Commando. If we ever get LP specials and an AR w/ Specials...it should either use these -or- its own. Also, I would estimate it's accuracy and spd modsto be around that of the FT atm OR more (if FT/HAR/Hvy Weapons in general are getting a boost). I would say that the specials would at least do 2-6k dmg every few seconds as well..

Ok that takes care for technical stuff...now onto the interesting stuff (im sure we're all agreed on stuff above)

Of course, we'll be immobile when we use the E-webb...hence, SL gets a skill thats "Fortification" - gives the commando armor or countersfor a more efficient Point-defense system

Along these lines..have an "Aim" Special SL skill that grants all E-webb commandos a 5-10 min mod bonus (like +20-60) on accuracy and perhaps another skill for Speed....

The catch tho, either Fortification, Aim, Speed...each lets say is around 5-10 mins...they can only be active 1 at a time or something along those lines.

Under no circumstances SL should be able to use these weapons (i personally think they should add a new weapon which is a Thompson style gun....a light repeating blaster...its not hvy, but its a fast light arm)....but I do agree that they should get specific skills pertaining to Player Turrets...this not only is logical (the SL is commanding the commando so to speak) but it also allows future development...future player turrets (DONT let the SL-Commando joint of E-webb get like the FT/HAR tree!)

Im sure we could add other skills...but I wouldnt want to totally rely on SLs to be everywhere in order to use this gun (yes I know 2 ppl used it in the movies...but thats not set in stone - why? Kenner's E-webb Snowtrooper has only 1 Imp with the E-webb ...also from the essential guides i believe the 2nd guy was ONLY there to help carry or regulate the POWER SUPPLY...not providing leadership....devs can easily say a droid is doing that for us...also look at SW: Battlegrounds..the E-webb soldiers were only 1 man...)

If SL does a joint with us on this..they should get generic SKILLS that HELP us in out point-defense job...and these skills can be easily provided for the mannable turrets soon and any future turrets/light turrets (like maybe a portable dish turret?) in the future...

...to me from a SW and Commando POV...this is the most logical move...dont give SLs specific mods or specials for this, but skills that enhance the weapon (such as the skills that enhance groups...)

So...you're saying SL should spend xp and skill points for the possibility they will be grouping with a commando? And part of the SL revamp should focus on a commando only weapon? Err....

I haven't read alot of the replies to this thread, just a few on the first page of both the commando and the squad leader versions but..:

i really like this idea, alot, i like the idea of a joint weapon, i've always been interested in the idea of an e-web for the commando but this is better.

I just wanted to throw in my support for the idea in it's original form

Commando only, eh?

Sorry, bubba, ain't gonna happen.

Listen, i am a very tolerant person and when i heard of the original idea i was absolutely for it. I thought the idea was great.

But reading yourn post, all i gotta say is:

We will either do it the SL way or not at all. Let us see how much luck the Commandos have if we recall our support for this idea.....

Its been a while since I have posted on this and I have to make it short due to time but this is the main problem Starnick that I think most SLs are having with this; using skill point for a weapon they wont use. I, like you, partially (there are instances that i can think of where they can and am still debating this with friends)agree that SLs should not have certs and specials for this gun. This of course is mainly because it is a heavy weapon and steps on our toes being heavy weapon specialists. But this is beating a dead horse on that issue and is counter productive to find a solution. The way around it is to NOT devote a tree to the E-Web so that SLs do not spend skill points on something that they will onlypotentially use. If you read my post on it it takes care of that issue by giving the squad leader a cert for a speed loading ammo pack. Basically what I am saying is that Squad leaders should have an important role with this weapon.

DiLune wrote:

Absolutely right. The ability to support this weapon should be inherent toa master squad leader and not have to devote skill points to a heavy weapon.

Seems a little harsh Payne. And on the other side of the coin, you are using a heavy weapon; that is our domain. To tell you the truth, I dont think this is going to happen without the support from both of us. Just because a profession is up for a revamp doesnt mean they are going to take a core ability away from the commandos by giving another profession the heaviest weapon in the game. I might have sounded a little harsh, but when you are trying to implement something like this in a game and propose it you have to deal with people that have different views than you. Just post back with what you like and what you didnt like so that a middle ground can be found. This is what I have been doing with Panzer as of late.

Agreed..harsh on your part payne...you say you're a tolerant person yet you arrogantly state they we'll do it with SL all the way or not at all

The devs havent commented whether or not they will even implent this idea (at least from what Ive heard...havent heard you corrspondants confirming...), or if they agree that doing it between SL and Commando will happy or is feasible

you say you read my post, from your response I doubt it...some of the remarks ive found on this discussion are not feasible or require a ton of programming on the devs part (something they're not always fond of as it seems...)

SL provides leadership, or will when your revamp gets onto live..by giving SL the cert to the e-webb is not leadership...giving skills that will enhance the e-webb (and also any future personal turrets...im not only thinking of the e-webb here) and the commando using it, personally is the best way to go (especially judging from SL current skills and new ones they're adding..they all enhance players/groups....with what many SLs are asking or discussing is that they want to use the E-webb as a gun all their own, take away the unique attribute of commando (at least partly..if garvin and Dilune's idea of us = Slow/inaccurate/hvy and sl = Fast/accurate/very light gets implented)...is to me asking too much from the devs and throwing your purpose of your proffession off)

From what i proposed...i specifically respected and regarded this thinking..SLs should be there to lead and to enhance the commando using the E-webb...this plays a HUGE role...

...think about it..without the SL skill "AIM" or "Fire at will" (for spd) then the E-webb commando will have a harder time for point-defense or defending a street (ie roadblock)...without something like "Fortify" then they're sitting ducks unless properly supported...or heavn forbid a TKA breaks thru they'll be mince meat....there are alot of disadvantages of using a stationary weapon...giving SL certain skills to improve this would be a great role and benefit...giving SL only half of the mods/skills/etc would not (cant always count on an SL being there...its realistic when if a commander isnt leading his troops..his troops suffer from lack of preparedness [Fortify], also cant be rallied to fight off the enemy [Aim & Fire at will]...but its not when without a commander the soldier all of a sudden has crappy aim...

...that is all i have to say to elaborate my previous post...you obviously got the wrong idea when reading it, as it included SL's all the way

And on a final note..if you want to make a mockery of a constructive discussion, why even post? its a waste of time on your part and all of ours here.

I can easily turn that around and say commandos are spending xp and skill points on a weapon dependant on SLin regard ofyour original idea.

The skills I proposed can easily be fitted into one of the SL trees that provides tactics and leadership skills to the group...it would not cost anymore xp nor be wasteful, as it will be only a few of many in a given tree.

Actually, no. The original proposal would give commandos and SL plenty to do with the E-Web without the other profession around. That's incredibly important. You don't want skill trees that are dependant on another profession to make them worthwhile. If they come together though they are more than twice as good as when they are solo on the weapon. Thats the incentive to give up the attacks of 2 people to work 1 gun. Passive bonuses aren't acceptable to me because that's just one more AFK SL ability in the pot.

And the SL revamp is coming in a month. I will not ask the Devs to work on a weapon for the SL revamp that SL cannot themselves use. That's the nitty gritty of this whole thing. Commandos aren't the only militarily trained profession in the game. The other is SL. Right now SL is support only. Part of this proposal is recognizing that SL are also a combat profession. SL won't have the heavy damage capability of the commando but they will have other things they are specialized to do with the gun (such as AE warningshot or AE suppression.) When an SL and a commando work the gun together you'd have the commando on the weapon itself with the SL working the power generator. That's where the speed and accuracy bonuses would apply to the weapon. The weapon itself would be set up to limit what the person shooting it can do without another person crewing it. I'm not saying limit it so you'd never use it solo. I'm saying make it good solo. Make it awesome when you work together.

If one rifleman can do 1500 dmg and two do 3000 dmg then it stands to reason you can apply the same formula to the E-Web. If one person does x damage then two do 2x+y where y is a bonus to give incentive to give up the second persons attacks. It also limits the number of highly effective E-Web emplacements in a given group: One.
