Having just tried the conversion process last night, I have on thing to say:

  • The Master Marksman requirement we have right now completely screws us over, even at novice.

Well, waiting for TC-Wanderhome and TC-Chimaera so I can test out any changes to respec.

When TC-Bria was on, we were still basicly screwed.

Thank you Ohetie, it is the same Stern. If this is gooing to change to not scre us over it need to be done NOW. TH Tiggs or whoever needs to get off their arse and say... You people that were Hybrid's will not be screwed. There are quiet folks as well as myself as well as vocal folks that need to freaking know if we need to appease the Developer demons by dropping our profs and grinding some others. Someone needs to make this happen and NOW. If not there will be no more time to regrind some generic template in the new system.

From TH's patch notes:

"
Character Respec

* Added a new way of allocating respec points to skills.
* Can't respec back up to zero (0) skill points, skill total always has to be positive.
* If you have negative skill points when you log in your character will be unable to move. You must respec your character or surrender the skill points before your character can move again.
* Fixed a problem where the server would reject certain respecs involving adding Novice boxes
* Made updates to the respec help text, as well as adding tooltips to the respec screen. "

We need someone to look at this "new way" of allocating respec points to skills, and whatever else they changed with it. If you find out good/bad changes, please report your findings here!

Fortunate turn of events! Apparently TestCenter is up on TC3, so I was able to take a gander at the new respec system...here it is:

Novice Professions (ie Marksman)

Tier 0: 1 "Novice" Point (Novice Marksman)
Tier 1: 2 "Standard" Points (Rifle 1, Carbine 1, Pistol 1, Ranged 1)
Tier 2: 3 "Standard" Points (Rifle 2, Carbine 2, Pistol 2, Ranged 2)
Tier 3: 4 "Standard" Points (Rifle 3, Carbine 3, Pistol 3, Ranged 3)
Tier 4: 5 "Standard" Points (Rifle 4, Carbine 4, Pistol 4, Ranged 4)
Tier 5: 6 "Standard" Points (Master Marksman)

Total: 62 "Standard" Points and 1 "Novice" Point

Elite Professions (ie Commando)

Tier 6: 7 "Elite" Points (Novice Commando)
Tier 7: 8 "Elite" Points (Explosives 1, Beam Weapons 1, Incin. Weapons 1, Acid Weapons 1)
Tier 8: 9 "Elite" Points (Explosives 2, Beam Weapons 2, Incin. Weapons 2, Acid Weapons 2)
Tier 9: 10 "Elite" Points (Explosives 3, Beam Weapons 3, Incin. Weapons 3, Acid Weapons 3)
Tier 10: 11 "Elite" Points (Explosives 4, Beam Weapons 4, Incin. Weapons 4, Acid Weapons 4)
Tier 11: 12 "Elite" Points (Master Commando)

Total: 171 "Elite" Points

*Unfortunately* I missed to see how much a standard point equals an elite point, so please if someone has a character, specify the conversion ratio! Novice points can only be used with novice skill boxes.

Heres how my live template is broken down into the respec points:

Master Commando - 171 "Elite" Points
Master Marksman - 62 "Standard" Points
UA IV - 14 "Standard" Points
0304 TKA - 72 "Elite" Points
0040 Pistoleer - 45 "Elite" Points
Hunting IV - 14 "Standard" Points

This is a full 250 skillpoint template.

Total "Elite" Points: 288
Total "Standard" Points: 90

Heres my CU build broken down into the same system:

Master Commando - 171 "Elite" Points
Master Carbineer - 171 "Elite" Points
UA IV - 14 "Standard" Points
0444 Marksman - 28 "Standard" Points
0404 Pistoleer - 83 "Elite" Points

Total "Elite" Points: 425
Total "Standard Points: 42

*IF* its 2:1 for Standard:Elite, I would have a total of 312 "Elite" Points (including converted remaining standard points) which would net me roughly 73% of my original 250 skillpoint build (although my new one would be 246 sp).

*IF* its 1:1, then a 79%

*IF* its 1:2, then a 90%

As I said, I totally missed the conversion of standard to elite points as I was focussing more so on the number you get . On TC my 135 skillpoint build was reduced to a 90 skillpoint build...so I have a feeling its still 2:1 for Standard:Elite points . If its still that...Id be roughly 19 SP off from mastering carbineer and having Master Commando/0404 Pistoleer...about an entire skill tree, master, and one other box :/

Checked on Chimaera and Bria again.

Still gated as before.

Seems BH and commando must prepare to grind 4-6 boxes after the CU to get back to being 250SP combatants.

On a side note...

If I give up Hunting IV in favor of 2 trees in pistoleer, the -only- thing Ill have to grind post-CU would be one box.

Recomend getting as much elite skills as you can get guys.

not everyone can actually GET more elite points

For example, I am a master squad leader, master pikeman. This leaves me with 23 free skill points with which I can get only novice medic and a few boxes in there

Its not so much of a problem for existing commandos, because you already have master marksman, and don't need any more novice boxes. If I wanted to get more elite boxes, I would have to completely re-grind pre-CU anyway. As you can imagine, this is unacceptable to me, because they're changing the role of my profession, and therefore forcing me to make the change (the reason behind the respec in the first place)

The summary is that anyone who is currently a melee/ranged combination is essentially stuck in that combination unless they want to re-grind

i CANT get more elite points now, without dropping everything and starting new on something i dont even want. its incredibly unfair.
