Do you have any evidence that can back this over-generalized statement up?
Or are you just trying to gain xp in baseless accusation flinging?

Let me guess your character profile. Novice troll 1/3/1/4 the rest of your skill points dumped into medical right?

Okay,

Last night I was on Intreped and raiding Bestine with a group. This commando can't aim for ____. I am only a 3333 marksman and I was just running around that guy constantly and he didn't hit me until I stood still. My range from him was pretty much point blank.

Commandos in my opinon are not overpowered

This is insane. Ihaven't played a lot of PvP yet. Why? Because I'm a Novice Commando. That equates to "extremely slow and inaccurate player with a big gun". Oh yeah, one more thing, I'm a Wookie. Wookie's can't wear any armour expect a shield generator (which I have yet to find on Intrepid). Yeah, yeah, spare me the taunt's on why did I decide to be a Wookie and then go Commando. Not my finest moment in the game.

That being said, I've had two PvP encounters. I won one and lost the other. I used my Pistoleer skills (with scout blaster)in the successfull battle, and got raped when I tried to solo in PvP as a Commando using a flamethrower. My opponent was fitted from head to toe with high quality composite armour, spammed Eye Shot, and had a doctor following him around for healing. He beat me four times in about 30 minutes. I didn't have a chance. Sounds like a good strategy to me.

I've also heard reports that we do up to 15K damage in one shot, to multiple oppenents simultaneously? Am I missing something here? How do we do that? I would really like to know.

How are we uber, again? I'm still not getting this.

I think that guy made some good points. I agree that commandos should be a powerful class but at the same time if someone invests all their skill points into say marksman/rifleman/pistol they should get some sort of benefit. I also agree that pvp really is too quick.. At master commando it really is kinda a one shot game (this is true of other professions as well but to a lesser degree). Commando does have its disadvantages but even if they nerf the damage a little its not going to kill the profession. To disregard someones post because they have only posted a few times is also stupid. I actually think that the less someone posts the better. That person may be playing the game more than any of you but you don't know that. Look at any of the profession forums and read the posts. I'd say 99% of the posts are either "my class is gimped" or "don't nerf us or I quit".. To attack that guys post which actually makes some good arguments is just lame. Its also lame to disregard his post because he has only posted 10 times or whatever. So go ahead and flame my post too... Of course you should realize that the only reason I have 100 or so posts is because I like to flame all the crybaby dontnerf-we are gimps-flames I see....

What the hell difference does 11 posts make?

Heaven forbid the devs listen to someone who actually plays the game rather than someone who spends all day posting in the forums.

In my opinion, someone who only gripes 11 times has a more valuable opinion than someone who gripes 727 times in the same time period.

I beleive it really just is stupid and VERY unlucky people who are killed by commandos. If you are moving, 16m 64m wherever, I generally cant hit you, and if i try flamesingle and miss im a goner. Heck my newb friend with a good scout rifle and pistol 4 can beat me if i miss flame single or he moves around a bit.

The real problem is the revenge TEF.

Situation: A group of Imperials with AT-STs galore is fighting one overt rebel. Up walks a covert rebelcommando who has a flamethrower. Rebel commando groups with single overt rebel and, because of the rediculously idiotic TEF system, now can attack all the Imperials while still overt and completely safe. Rebel commando gets into a decent position, fires once and DoTs numerous Imps and probably one or more AT-STs. Next, rebel commando gets ripped apart by said group of imperials and their pets seconds later. But now the DoT is killing the AT-STs and the owners (and will probably ruin most ST pets, and completely remove the DoTed imperials from PvP because of massive wounds). Commando comes out of the cloning center with a revenge TEF against all the imperials. Again he has the ability to get within perfect range to devastate the imperials again. But the imperials are smart (ha!), they stay out of rangeof the TEFed commando and keep running. The situation ends with one commando, probably killing a few ST pets, probably making one or more AT-STs useless (10k wounds anyone?), definately giving a few PCs a ton of downtime with huge wounds, and making an entire group of imperials run away because that's the strategy to win against a commando. (/sarcasm off)

Moral: Words cannot express how dumb the idea of running from and staying out of range of a commando is for a strategy in any TEF case. It doesn't work, period.

P.S. - The situation above happens so often now it's humerous. A group of Imps is PvPing with a few rebels but then retreats out of town since a single commando using the revenge TEF can put them all in the med center with massive wounds and kill their pets with a few hits (actually, one is all they need, any decent hit with a DoT on it will kill a ST). Furthermore, the whole "run to water" argument is almost never valid, tatooine has become a deathtrap.

The only thing I am going to add is that it sure is wonderful that someone can post a mere thread who isn't even a Correspondant, and Holo immediately takes what the guy is saying as gospel. Is the guy a correspondant? Does he provide any REAL data? Most of his post was mere argument fueled by nothing more than emotion.

There are COUNTLESS variables involved with PVP. SO WHAT if a group of Commandos came in and owned everyone. What if a group of BH came in to town and did the same thing? Should they be nerfed too? What about these other players dieing? Were they buffed by a master doctor? Were they wearing elite armor? For that matter were the Commandos buffed to the gills and sporting elite armor...so many variable so little time. So maybe these people who were standing around with their thumbs up their butt's OVERT and UNBUFFED probably should not have had their butts handed to them?

Besides the actual factual BUGS people need to stop their **edit** whining and follow common sense. Most of the problem with people is a simple lack of common sense.

In the end the only person's viewpoint that even matters is the PVP DEV.

As a bh i was saying same thing. All those two classes got is offense, no defense at all. And those guys complain about us.

Simply a guy without tactic probably a novice in his profession try to kill a master commando or BH ... dies... then goes and whines we are too good. I agree thats BS.

But you got to understand Holo isnt going to just nerf, they test stuff by themselves. They are not nerfing anyone besides BH in next patch.

"Iam just really disgusted taht Holocron will run and listen to someone with 11 posts ....."

11 Well thought out, well written, useful posts are better to listen to than 797 poorly written, whining post about the person with 11 posts being listened to....

Actually that post is in the same thread where Holo later indicates that the combat balance designer says that commandos are at the right spot for damage output. Look at Ivvoni's post on this subject a few days ago.

OK, this thread is long, so i'll admit that I havent read all of it. However, would like to throw in my 2 cents.

Commandos are not overpowered (It should be noted that I am a commando). I have Flamethrower 4, and even using /aim prior to using an FT special attack, I still miss often enough that it's life threatening. That's the thing with the commando. If you miss, that's 15 seconds worth of free attacks your enemy has. There's a good chance you won't live to take a second shot. Also, commandos are not super troppers as some people believe. We are easily defeated by 2 simple factors: distance and movement. If you are constantly on the move, then you are a more difficult target. If you stay out of our effective range for flame thrower special attacks, then you have essentially eliminated our potential to inflict wound damage and our overall potential to inflict damage is greatly reduced due to the lack of special attacks. This is tactics 101. Know thy enemy. I have been killed many times by players who know a flame thrower when they see one, so they just start running and shooting at the same time. It's easier than walking and chewing gum at the same time. Most of the time, I don't even get one shot kills. And fire DOT doesn't kill my target right away, which allows for a fairly high probability that I will at least be incapacitated before the fire DOT overtakes my target or before i can manage to get off a second shot.

I agree that the commando plays primarily a support role and as of right now, the commando fulfills this role quite well. In single pvp, assuming that both players start out at 65m or greater from one another, the commando will lose 90% of the time if the enemy knows how to run and shoot at the same time and keep his distance. I've had it happen to me a lot. This is especially annoying when going up against a bounty hunter. There really is no reason why a commando should be able to get within 20meters of anyone with a level head on their shoulders. However, during a large engagement (such as base assults, town raids, etc.) where there is mass confusion and heavy armor around (at-st's and such), the commando can turn the tide of a battle. Commandos, because of the long recovery time for their special attacks and the close proximity with which they must execute these attacks, arereally onlyeffective when accompanied by other character classes (such as carbineer, pistoleer, creature handler.bounty hunter, etc.) because those other classes can draw fire away from the commandos and/or provide covering fire. This allows the commando to get into position, take aim, and fire his shot. With any luck, the commando won't miss. During large engagements, commandos are kings of the battlefield. They serve as part of a well-oiled machine. This is their role. They really don't fly very well solo. But the whole of a task force is certainly greater than the sum of its parts.

Hey RanesDsane,

It is well written, but that is about it. It is full of lies and misinformation. The person that wrote that has no idea what he is he talking about. I spend time on other profession boards and commandos are not the hot topic. Secondly no commando can solo an ATST. Anyone who hasbeen involvedlarge PVP battles knows that it takes many, many, people to take down an ATST and will involve some deaths. Just because you are able to use good "verbage" while making a completely asinine point does not mean it is right.
