Thread: Want to know why the Profession is still broken?

If you re-read my original post, I said not all members in this forum fall under the category. But while reading the boards like I do almost every day, it got to be too much to not say something about. The overall number of threads like that...just not good. And I pay to enjoy the game, which I'm doing even though it has a long way to go...just have to understand they have to take things on step at a time.

I dunno about you, but I still have a ton of good ideas now.

At least, I've had a few agreements to things where I've posted some nice and in depth stats about AP and DPS, and to what I personally think the role of the Commando should be. And I'm by no means the only one, people like Garvin, and Ivoni in times past have done exactly the same. We've all posted things which seem fair and reasonable, not difficult do do within programming constraints, would NOT unbalance the profession or the game overall in any way, and have some kind of proof to back it up where necessary.

I can count the number of such posts which have been acknowledged on one hand. That's me being optimistic.

Edit: Didn't realise there was a second page, if you're wondering about the non-sequitur.

Razor said teasingly -

"I dunno about you, but I still have a ton of good ideas now"

Maybe you but ive noticed a huge decrease in constructive posts talking about new ideas and such...most likely as a result that the devs have said (or at least acted) that they will not change any of our weapons or trees or etc....the only thing that remind me of the good old times in terms of ideas that havent been repeated so many times...was the assault rifle...and still..no response (even tho the commando community seemingly has overwhelming support for this)

Im not saying we dont have good ideas now too...im just saying theres alot less (and alot more repeated..such as the specials and mods and revisions for LP)...and in that replace..we got all this ranting :/

Seiryu5...to understand the "ranting" and the "whining" you really have to know their origins...

Since beta we have had given issues with our profession...issues that we presented (via our correspondents) to the Dev's. It was rare, but happened occasionally, that we received feedback from the Dev's regarding our issues. It was so rare that we lost 2 Correspondents due to "Lack of Acknowledgement".

And repeatedly we have heard of changes, reported our findings on those changes and been completely ignored, only to have eventually hear, well we should have done it that other way...

Take the 2.5x Melee Damage Multiplier...When the dev's first introduced it the Dev's counted us as a Melee class and we did 2.5x damage to all ranged classes...we fought AGAINST that...we felt it was unfair that we did so much damage to other ranged classes and pushed for the removal of the Multiplier...The Dev's answered back by making us a Ranged class so we too suffered from the 2.5x multiplier...the ignored all our suggestions and constructive arguements at that time...Eventually, after3 months or so of suffering this penalty, the Dev's finally came to the conclusion that the Multiplier wasn't the right thing...Something we had been telling them for so long...

Our Commando history is full of examples like that...where we told the Dev's one thing, they did the opposite, we suffer, and the Dev's come back months later to say "OPPS"...Can you see where that might start to get frustrating?

Now compound that with the idea of the Dev's REPEATING their mistakes...go back to the 2.5x Melee Multiplier fiasco...it took several months to clean that up...Now the Dev's are once again introducing a "Melee Damage Bonus when fighting Ranged Opponents"...

For a long time after Beta we offered mainly constructive and intelligent arguements for postive change to our profession...Ivoni was one of the folks leading the way in that regard (check out how intelligently Ivoni puts things in the Commando FAQ)...but over and over we heard back from the Dev's "Commandos are the way we intended them to be" or "Commandos are over-powered"...and in recent months the most reponse we've received is "Wait until the Combat Balance". Most of our "whines" and "rants" have been to try and get TH and the Dev's to EXPAND on what they mean. And with each patch we don't see fixes, we see more problems created...

The latest issue is the HAR...if the Dev's took the time to listen to us they'd know we don't want the HAR fixed as is...We want it completely revamped or scraped and replaced...instead they have decided to fix it...Look at other professions like Crafters and Droid Engineers...When the Dev's proposed something that they didn't like, they complained and the Dev's changed their minds/strategy....when we complain, we are called "whiners" and "ranters"...

I challenge you...analyze all of our current strengths and weaknesses...then analyze all the changes the Dev's have made over the last7 months that have impacted our profession directly...Now review all of the comments we made prior to each publish...You'll see a lot of "Please Don't Do this or people will misunderstand us and cry NERF..." followed by "NERF Commandos" followed by "Commandos are Over-Powered and will be NERF'd next publish" followed by "Stop Whining and Ranting"....

It's not the "whining" and "ranting" that chased the Dev's away...It's the lack of attention to our suggestionsthat created the "whining" and "ranting"...It's a case of "WE TOLD YOU SO..." after every patch that has caused the "whining" and "ranting"...And did you notice how JustG ending a ton of Whining and Ranting by just acknowledging us...he didn't say he was going to fix our issue...he just told us that we are heard and we are on the radar...that's the main thing we wanted to hear...it did a lot of good and started some healing...

So I'm sorry...I don't see any of it as "Whining" or "Ranting"...it's just want some Diehard Commandos have been pushed to over the long haul...it's what comes from our hearts because of how much we care about this Profession...

The scariest part...We've received more Dev attention due to ourour supposed "whining" and "ranting" then we ever did when we were just posting construtive/intelligent posts...go back and look...go back and read MasterSynn's final post (he use to be our Correspondent)...it's all laid out right there...

So before you tell us how much the "whining" and "ranting" disgust you, do a history check and find out where it comes from...And by all means, BOOKMARK your post here...I promise you...if you care as much about our Profession as you claim...in 3 or 4 months you be "whining" and "ranting" with the best of them...it might be a good time for you to come back and re-read what you posted here...

I don't make posts like this without doing my homework...I have read just about every sticky thread and have read countless threads here. While most of your points are valid and I understand where you are coming from, whining and ranting just aren't my style. Maybe it's because of the fact that in the real world it doesn't accomplish much so I tend to leave it out of here as well, but there isn't any way to justify some of the posts I have read. Yes I've been a commando for a while, yes I plan on staying a commando for at least the time being. The commando class is hard to classify obviously, as it is hampered by the range of specials and the fact it is now considered a ranged profession and gets hammered by melee professions. With the 2.5x coming back in, of course there is going to be frustration. But what should be done? GIve the commando a sort of "heavy weapons toughness" to compensate against the melee advantage since we are in such close quarters? Something should be done, I just don't think the boards are heading in the right direction. Even if being civil and orderly isn't going to get the devs attention, I don't think it's an excuse to act immature and rant constantly. Not saying you have to sit and be kicked around...and I also mentioned before that not everyone in this forum posted in the manner I have described. I'm not sure how many times I have to reiterate these simple points. Some people have to agree with me, I didn't get 5-starred for no reason...

lets get this out of the way. you talk about maturity, and yet you belittle many people here, seiryu5. that's immature right there. you don't anyone whining or acting immature, then act like it yourself. golden rule my friend.

secondly, its a proven fact that the only way to get anything changed in this game is to whine and cry like there's no tomorrow. do i like it? nope. i'd rather the dev's listen to ideasgiven by lordS, giribaldi, master synn, garvin, maddogs, technohic, tacwraith, raptor and myself for the past8 months. but alas, they instead would rather listen to the nerf cries by the uber l33t pvp'ers out there that don't get the idea of moving out of the 16m range.

lets look at the past from the beginning. knockdowns were overpowered in pvp. so what happened? everyone that didn't have a kd move cried about it on the boards. the devs saw it, and nerfed it, giving a huge HAM penalty when using a knockdown move. then, people would either get buffed, use spices, or use a low HAM cost weapon to counter this. so then what happened? the devs added a timer. great, now you can only get kd'd once every 30 seconds in pvp. twice if you were dizzy, got up, and posture changed. infinite if you were a carbinier with charge shot. what did this all do? it basically screwed over the pikeman profession that lived off of sweeps and area attacks. the whole profession was made for these types of moves, but because the pvp'ers complained about it, it was taken away. cries and whines got the attention.

another example. probot droids were waaaaay too over powered when they first were made. i could take my probot with AR1 and tank just about anything out there. if it died, i could store it, re-call it, and it was fixed again. what happened? people started complaining about those now, saying that a probot was too powerful and letting noobs kill anything out there for good xp. so, they got nerfed as well. no more armor, lower HAM (how a robot has health, action and MIND is beyond me) and suffered from perma death. this was a good nerf IMO, as it did give an unfair advantage to those using them. again, cries and whines got the attention.

creature handlers have probaly suffered the most out of the public outcry for nerfs. back in the day, you could call out 3 rancors and have them tank for you or wreck house in pvp. then the nerf cries came, andthe new creature levels were put in. then, people were just getting 4/4/0/0 in creature handler, buying their pets, and using some of the best pets out there. you'd find master commandos solo'ing krayt dragons with a graul mauler. you'd see someone with frenzied grauls use its AOE attack to hurt entire raiding parties in pvp. so, the nerf cries came again, and the creature revamp went live. now the same pets won't last 3 seconds against a krayt dragon, and one teras kasi master can take out just about any pet someone sicks on them. now, as this nerf did balance things out a bit with pve, it made creature handlers almost useless in pvp. you don't see rebels using pets to tank an AT-ST while raiding. you don't see imperials sicking a couple of pets on the rebel troopers guarding a large faction base. its because they will die incredibly fast. also, this nerf hurt the lucrative business many CH's had from selling pets. a master creature handler could go to endor, find an arachne queen, and sell it for 3 million credits. not bad for a hard days work. now, they'd be lucky to get 100k for any pet they have, as bio engineered pets are all the rage now. yet again, it was the cries and whines of the public that won.

i could go on and on with the waywhining and crying has effected the game. i'd wager that the commando profession was fixed back in august because of the whining we did. before that, Q-3PO actually said that the commando profession was working as intended. never mind that flamesingle2 did about 1600 points of damage (the same as stopping shot with a 200 max damage pistol). never mind that the heavy acid rifle couldn't be used, because the cert was broken. never mind that most commandos couldn't get any skills other than field tactics, because servers didn't have resources to make flamethrowers or rocket launchers, and the launcher pistol only gave pistol xp. but we were working as intended. it took our original correspondent resignation and a mass outcry of the commando community to get the changes we so rightly recieved. i've said it before, if the squad leader board would bithc and moan as much as other boards did, that class might actually work. if the pikeman boards had more posters complaining, it might actually be a viable profession. if image designers can get changes to their profession by complaining enough to the devs, then it can work for anyone.

I'm well aware of the stages the game has gone through, including the numerous nerfs. Defending my original post is whining? You're putting far too liberal a meaning on the word, my friend

The only hope I see is look at chef now, they are totally revamped and looking pretty good. Let's hope this happens to us. I just find it funny that thereare known broken professions, the heart of the game, without being the number one priority. I tend to think they should fix a profession before bringing a nerf down on it. Now there are fire blankets.. good for our target, but it removesa lot of ourfirepower. If you look at that from an outside prospective its fair because water is the only way to put out fire, butlooking at it from the inside it's our main weapon. It's not like we canswitch to our HAR when flames just aren't doing the key because that is totally in-effective (lets see how the patch goes, hopefully that will change).

Commando has a lot of potential, along with most of the borked professions, but the waiting is the hardest part. I love doing 2800+ in pvp, that's the main reason I stay commando, but we really need to be revamped so that more than 25% of our profession is worth using. The point of thismessage is just that I puzzles me to have a game with so many non-working or non-working as intended parts. Commando is aperfect example of this because just about 75% of our profession isnot worth using in most occasions.

I never said I totally disagree with you...there are some bad threads posted from time to time...but that's the minority of our posts...I just wanted to illustrate 2 things to you that you missed...

1) What you call Whining and Ranting is the after effect of our passion for our profession. Yes, there are some posts that are full of whining and ranting, but those are the minority of the posts in our forum...Every Profession has the same type of posts...go check out the other forums...The majority of posts in our forum are quite well done...just look beyond the tone of the post to see the real message inside...

2) I have read just about every sticky thread and have read countless threads here. No...that's not doing your homework...Not by a long shot...Have you read MasterSynn's goodbye letter? Have you read the great post on the History of our Commando Profession? Have you reviewed, side by site, where we were, where we are, and with all the proposals, where we are heading? Have you looked at all our requests before each patch (since beta) and seen how many of them have ever been implimented...99% of all our past posts up until a couple of patches ago were all calm and constructive...got us no where...All you post tells me is that don't understand...Yes...there is something to say about maintaining a calm and focused discussion, but that has NOTHING to do with Dev attention...All it does it keep us quiet and docile...spinning in our own wheels...

Let me give you a new homework assignment...a pretty easy one...Recentlytwo Dev plans have been over-turned...1) The Droid Invasion/Droid Handler proposal & 2) The Crafting Revamp...Go review the reasons the Dev's changed their mind...Review the majority of posts out there from players on the subject...was the majority of them calm and collected, or were they passionite and dedicated to seeing it fixed? What was the out come of players "ranting" and "whining"? It was the shear number ofpassionite pleas to theDev's that changed their minds...they said it themselves...they'd rather craft a game that the players enjoy....

You would rather we sit back and "spin our wheels" getting nothing accomplished rather then strike out to get Dev attention...You really do need a History lesson because you've learned nothing from all of our past mistakes...

PS...1 or 2 people 5 star'ing you doesn't mean your on the right track...There are quite a few more Commandos on this forum then that...It just means that somebody out there likes what you posted...

Kinda OT, but garvin, did you steal the HTML for TH's sig from that one thread too?

Yep!!! Although I did a bit of code clean up and alteration...it looks similar, but has some of my own bits and pieces in there...working on another revamp of it also...

Well just look at the ranger profession...they are useless beyond anything in the game(except maybe squad leader), but their community is top notch. Just one example...

And I wonder (I haven't ever checked their forum) but how much Dev attention have they received ingame so far? What has their calm, cooperative nature got them? You say they are "useless beyond anything in the game"...and you think we should act just like them as an example...hmmm...does anyone see the logic in that?

Do you consider a community "top notch" if they come up with tons of great ideas that never see the light of day...or a community that goes out and strives to get their ideas implemented, even if it means they have to occasionally "rant" to get attention...
