We have been working to complete the alpha version of Combat Upgrade since Publish 9.
Initial alpha testing will start in a few weeks. We are inviting correspondents, former correspondents and five people each current correspondent has chosen to do this initial testing. We expect alpha testing to take several weeks. When we reach the point where the implementation is complete but some tuning and debugging is needed, we will begin beta testing. At this time, we will begin inviting community members in who have signed up for beta testing. The closed beta testing will probably not start until after the Holidays, dependent on how quickly the alpha testing period has progressed.
*************************************************************************************************
As you see from the red highlighted section that the sandbox=alpha. Now please note form the green highlighted that closed beta is different from the the sandbox and will occur after the Sandbox is done.

Concerning future publication times. Almost every time we give a timeline we lie. And we *never* do it intentionally. Poop happens, that is we have emergencies, unanticipated challenges, the bugs take longer to resolve than planned and just the general friction and chaos you could associate with any large multi-location team organization combined with the large city of people who are our audience. Going forward you will see us state our development strategy, and when we are ready to work on something it will show up in the In-Concept, In-Development sections of the website. We will engage the community on the majority of the development we do. And most importantlywe need to publish things when they are actually done, that is working as designed with a very high quality level.

Once agian i bring you back to this statement in
Studio Update part 2
**************************************************************************************
More details on the Combat Upgrade will be coming out in January as we enter the alpha testing phase of that development.
***************************************************************************************
Every one in this forum read it the same way i did. That Alpha would start in january EVEN GARVIN dispite his recent post claiming other wise.
I hate to be the English Major here but the structure of that sentence e the English Major here implies that alpha testing phas will start in january
as well as more details coming out.
I know it's frustrating, I am too. We are all in the same boat, but I also see where the Devs are at. If they tell us something, and something NEEDS to be cut out, those affected will be PISSED off. Could you imagine if they said Ryu's tank was in, but had to cut it out at the last minute due to lag issues, and other random bugs. What do you think our forums would be like? More like a Gladiator Arena, I think.
All i'm saying is that although they should relese the info, the community in general should not get their hopes up to much. I think, for all I know, I may be raving

Well Aeuralis, I think the reason they don't say, is because they KNOW they will be flamed if they are wrong. Notice how everyone states that they need to release the info, yet they do, and get flamed for mussing it up. If you read SOETyrants post that someone quoted, sh!t happens, and bugs can be VERY annoying to fix. I've tried programming awhile back, and one bug can take five minutes to five months to ffix them.

I think you are missing my point.
I am NOT saying they should release the infamous"DOCS"
I am saying they need to keep the community informed when they encounter delays, something they are not doing.

Undisputed.
If we read it wrong, would it have killed SOETyrant to come out and say "That's not what I said boys and girls. You'll get details. I'm not saying when Alpha starts."
That would have been honest instead of having post after post after post clearly showing the community took his statement to mean January = Alpha. Instead, we get silence. And that is more of a let down than Alpha not starting, since Tyrant gave a commitment to better communications.

I agree that's how I "interpreted" it...but I was wrong in my interpretation and I can't fault SOETyrant for that...I'd have a pretty big (or bigger) ego if I felt everyone had to go with my interpretation on things...so basically...I was wrong...

And here is the post:
It was posted it the "**Cough!***..ALPHA TESTING?**Cough** " thread on 4 Jan 05

Nothing has started yet for Sandbox testing...SOETyrant did say recently that CU Testing WILL start in January...
Now obviously the big question is at least "When in January?"...Hopefully we'll have that answer very soon...

A key thing to pick up on from that Tyrant has been saying is "Testing will begin in January"...that's HUGE to me becausethat's the first time we've heard them actually put a testing start with any type of timeline...Beyond that, if TH was correct about their Beta timeline in his post awhile back, Beta testing should start about 2 weeks after Alpha testing begins...Of course this is subject to change depending on how much trouble us Alpha testers cause them (how many bugs we find or how many changes we INSIST be made)...

I agree 100% there.

I don't think you were wrong aboutyour interpretation, I think they again missed their deadline. And once agian we have noword on why.
Once agian they are leaving us in the dark. I had a thought earlier today, Maybe they don't think they missed a deadline because they keep adjusting the schedule. They forget that they have annouced things and have not updated us with the new schedule.
My point wasSOETyrant was suppose tobrave enough to tell us about delays and yet 3 months out from the "few weeks" post still nothing but promises.
You being right or wrong is not the point. Minus a few people evryone read it that way, because Tyrant wrote it that way. The sentence structure induces such a deliberate meaning and not a vague range as was suggested in this post. But the biggest issue is still no follow no explanation and of course still no more than words and delays and arrogance on teh part of SOE. I have to say though we are the saddest of all to actually think they would change. Thats life you live and you learn and you move on. Don't accept anything they say at all would be the best philosophy it will remove the high certainity of disappointment that we have all been privy to. I don't believe you'll see the Cu before May and I'm starting to reasset my opinion on that. I originally thought they would market the CU for May and try to feed of the enthusiams from Episode 3, however my original thought to that was back in October. It seems now they may not even make the May date I originally thought will not turn out either. I actually think we are approaching a rename and new 6 month delat here very soon. Long live Jedi Wars.
