Thread: Well I guess even SOETyrant cannot keep a deadline...
the closest we've gotten to anykind of timeline regarding the Sandbox has been "soon"...and it wasn't said by Tyrant...

Garvin,
Let me make sure I get this worded correctly. I know what I want to ask, but I cant seem to get it out:
Since everything now is open to interpretation (and no, I am not being a smartass, I asking an honest question)....Based on your "interpretation" of what the NDA covers regarding the CU, can you tell us if SOETyrant has made any post about the CU Alpha starting in January in the CU forums (that we are not privy to)?
I deal with INS officials daily who have different interpretations of Immigration law. Some say toe-may-toe, some say tah-may-toe, some say tah-mah-toe...So, depending on one's interpretation of what the NDA covers and what it doesnt, you could possibly interpretit that you can. Or cant.

wow...
just...wow.
I cant believe its been...6 months? since the Combat Summit.
And honestly, it doesnt seem like the end is anywhere in sight.
Sad.
According to TH, the CU has been in the works since Publish 9....Which was late June 2004.
July 2004, August 2004, September 2004, October 2004, November 2004, December 2004, January 2005.
We have gotten...3 threads dedicated to it (Great Expectations, Whats Going On With Combat Part 1 and 2 (which was a rehash of part 1), ? 4? I am somewhat discounting the FF that contained information regarding faction armor. The core of the game is the professions.
I dont know...Just kinda rambling at the moment. Venting a little, I suppose.

Like I've always said...I will always be honest with all of you, even when I know you won't like the answer...you all deserve it...
I figure if I'm completely honest with you all, even about the bad things, then you'll all be more likely to believe me about the good things coming as well...
- I was in on it

- had some sort of non-"soon" timeline
- bloodfin got slected for thus unknown testing and server snap shot

**********************************************************************************************
We have been working to complete the alpha version of Combat Upgrade since Publish 9.
Initial alpha testing will start in a few weeks. We are inviting correspondents, former correspondents and five people each current correspondent has chosen to do this initial testing. We expect alpha testing to take several weeks. When we reach the point where the implementation is complete but some tuning and debugging is needed, we will begin beta testing. At this time, we will begin inviting community members in who have signed up for beta testing. The closed beta testing will probably not start until after the Holidays, dependent on how quickly the alpha testing period has progressed.
*************************************************************************************************
As you see from the red highlighted section that the sandbox=alpha. Now please note form the green highlighted that closed beta is different from the the sandbox and will occur after the Sandbox is done.

Concerning future publication times. Almost every time we give a timeline we lie. And we *never* do it intentionally. Poop happens, that is we have emergencies, unanticipated challenges, the bugs take longer to resolve than planned and just the general friction and chaos you could associate with any large multi-location team organization combined with the large city of people who are our audience. Going forward you will see us state our development strategy, and when we are ready to work on something it will show up in the In-Concept, In-Development sections of the website. We will engage the community on the majority of the development we do. And most importantlywe need to publish things when they are actually done, that is working as designed with a very high quality level.

I refer you to this statement in Studio update part 2
**************************************************************************************
More details on the Combat Upgrade will be coming out in January as we enter the alpha testing phase of that development.
***************************************************************************************8
As we enter the phase...I hate to bring up techical jargon, but a "phase" is different then actually starting the actual testing...The "phase" has begun as we gear up to begin the actual testing...
Trust me...we are all understandably frustrated...He stated that more details would come out in January...they did...we got much more info and pics then we had before...he kept his word...and we are entering the alpha testing phase, we just don't know when testing will begin...

Garvin is awesome trying to keep in touch as much as he is allowed on all the concerns, whishes, expectations and curiosity. If you keep bombarding him, he might want to hold back more to avoid this useless targeting.
The guy come in front line and quite assume his role to an extend not seen in many other correspondent. Would you please not bash him ?
I thank him with all my heart for being so dedicated. I m nearly retemplating to full commando lol because of him, I sense commando profession to be a big winner in the CU. Joke asside, really really be glad to have the best correspondant in here.

We really do love you gravin ![]()
Want some Pi3? ![]()
Nobody here has anything against Garvin. Garvin is the best coorespondent in the forums. Its SOE who is still failing to step up to the plate. I believe SOE is abusing the Starwars name and its growing old and tired. Bringing Cal in and others in they were going

Nobody is taking anything out on Garvin...I troll the other profession forums that are applicable to my toons, and I can honestly say he's without a doubt the best Corr out there. We are lucky to have him.
