Thread: You guys kid yourselves
I gues it would all depend on the type of rocket being fired.
Rockets with a HEAP warhead would explode and send out shrpanel in a wide area. Not much damage against armor. The FFARS from the helicopters would be an example.
Rockets and/or Missles with a HEAT warhead would penetrate very well against most armors, doing little area effect. RPG's LAWS etc.
I still think the T-21 would be fine as a AP - 2, it is sci - fi after all, and it could be considered some type of rail gun.. whatever.
It is just this idiot made such a foolish statement in the beginning of this post, then called us all basically idiots for not agreeing with him. That I had to speak up. Not to mention his continuing to tell me I don't understand phsysics.
I've seen what HEAT rounds can do.
Sniper rifles are sub-sonic, and do not penetrate armor. Sniper bullets are designed to do maximum damage, which causes them to fail when they hit armor. (Hollow point bullets do the most damage, but are incapable of penetrating armor because they pancake on it. A direct example of high damage, low AP.) Pick up a Jane's and check it out. E=1/2mv*v. When v drops, energy drops significantly.
THERE ARE NO ANTI-TANK SNIPER RIFLES.
There are recoilless rifles, which are a type of rocket launcher. These can kill tanks.
I'll say it again: When you hit a human with a rocket, apply the confetti effect. If he has armor, apply the confetti effect to the armor too. You're lucky if you find a corpse to return to the family.
When you hit someone with a sniper bullet, put a hole in their head, and any exit wound is larger than entry. If the head had a kevlar helmet, the bullet may not penetrate. Snipers aim at parts of the body that are not armored.
I think the hype is about the Barrett .50 cal rifle Kreistor.
It is possible to take out vehicles with it. Jeeps, trucks, lightly armored personel carriers.
The .50 round would definately pierce anything a human could wear.

Zarl0k,
Grow up and quit trolling. Most commandos dont want anyone else nerfed they just want something fixed. And if you want to compare whats been broke with the rifleman vs commando its not even close. And about the ONLY real fix commandos have had was changing the launcher pistoler xp to heavy weapon xp. EVERYTHING else under the commando profession is worthless right now. Answer this: Did you have to wait over a month since you reached Novice Rifleman to even have the ability to earn your first rifle xp? So dont come in here trolling about rifleman issues. We respect those issues and the riflemen profession but not people that come in here like you.
Armor piercing bullets are bad against soft targets. The bullets don't tumble or deform, so they do less damage, and don't have stopping power. Yeah, they go through the armor, but without hitting a vital organ, the enemy keeps shooting back.
Correct AP is bad against a soft target, correct the .50 cal M2 does already do this.
You really dont need an armor piercing round with a .50 cal round to penetrate a jeep though, or for that matter the body armor a human can currently wear.
It's really a great sniper round.
I am not agreeing with Zardok, at all. Was just pointing out what weapon brought on all this hype.
On an active battlefield, yeah, it would be a good sniper rifle, but as a sneaking and also skulking sniper weapon, it would be too loud.
Ah, but the range on the .50 is very, very nice. The ballistic path is greater, flatter, then most other rounds.
The Barrett seems to be the current weapon of choice for some snipers. I have only fired it once, so I do not know how it compensates for the sound, perhaps some sort of suppression.
We used ot set the M2 up to single shot, put a scope on it. You can easily hit a target out to 1k meters. Especially on the tripod mount.
As long as you only fire once though, then it will be very hard for them to identify your location. They will already know you are there, when their officer drops at their feet. Relocate, wait, and then shoot again.
I liked my M14 and the 7.62 round was good enough for me.
