Thread: You guys kid yourselves
Hmm you know...I think a Stetchkin can do that....wait a second thats a machine pistol.....uh
hmmm ok a 5 guage combat assault repeater...no thats a no longer used shotgun type....
Well ok....guess I will have to go home and look up some.
A .50 callibur is only one of many weapons, and isnt that mostly and american used one?
And hey speaking of missles, why didnt anyone mention the SilkWorm missiles used by a certain Asian country.
Those are my missile of choice.
They are designed to not only penetrate a hull of a vessell including Aircraft Carriers but also Tanks and Heavy Armored fortifications..
Expensive to make, and really unreliable, as they would sometimes not explode....so that would mean if you used one, you might have to use 3 or 4.

We were speaking about man portable missles, which the silkworm most definately isnt.
If you want to see one, you should go to battleship cove, they have an east german missle corvet with silkworms on it ( obviously inert). Huge, and scary.
I speak about the .50 cal barret because that is the only "rifle" in the american inventory that has any anti-vehicle use at all. The rest are 7.62 or 5.62 rounds, which are only for anti-personnel (though we can debate thata when it comes to trucks and such).
y does this moron keep talking? ARGh dude this guy needs to get in a tank and let us fire a barage of rockets at him and see if he thinks the same way! stupid sniper leave the big toys to us, go play with your pee shooter elsewear
JVoss,
Intelligent, well-researched, non-inflamitory posts are in direct violation of SOE forum posting guidelines. Please refrain from this childish behavior in the future. Thank you.
Yes, your information is correct. JVoss himself verified it.
A normal, lead M16 bullet that hits a soft target becomes unstable due to the resistance. It begins to pinwheel when it hits, and it expends a lot of energy as it travels sideways through the body. This makes the wound as wide as the bullet is long, rather than just the diameter of the bullet itself. This imparted enrgy is called stopping power, since it acts as momentum on the target.
An AP bullet is very hard (a steel casing, or any of several other methods), in order not to deform when it hits the target. If the target has armor, the hard bullet hits the armor, the armor either gives way, or has to deform to absob the impact, and so the bullet has a higher chance of penetration.
An AP bullet that hits a body without armor will not pinwheel like the M16 bullet. It is designed to not spin so that it doesn't turn when it strikes armor. Thus, the bullet continues to go straight with low resistance, and the wound is only the diameter of the bullet. Since little energy is transferred into the target due to lower resistance, the stopping power is greatly reduced. So, unless it hits a vital organ, the bullet will not cause heavy shock damage and the enemy will continue to shoot back, even though bleeding may kill the target later.
Essentially, AP bullets put good holes in targets, but they don't do as much damage.
For even more gorey information... in the early days of the M16, it was discovered that after removing bullets from some enemies, they were still dying, and the doctors couldn't figure out why. Eventually, they found a very small second wound track that split off from the main bullet. The stress on the M16 bullet wa so high, the tip was breaking off and going on a new, very tiny track all by itself. This could have been considered a violation of the Geneva convention, the US and other NATO countries using the 7.62 decided to change their weapons to stop this. Some put steel jackets on the tips which would take the stress. Some slowed the bullet speed. Some used a smaller bullet. I don't remember who did what.

All I get is that you have no physics knowledge whatsoever and still don't know the difference between an explosive effect in an area vs penetrationg through that area
Do you realize that most infantry carried heavy weapons are HEAT designed.
For those civies out there thats High Energy Anti Tank.
HEAT rounds carry a small ammount of thermite or equilivent compound just ahead of the shaped charge. This is designed to do 2 things.
- Thermite burns holes in everything. When the explosion goes off, it liquifies the thermite and throws it onto the armor, burning a hole in it.
- Once the hole is there, a Lance of fire and liquid lead spews forth into the breach in the armor.
Now. That is what a HEAT round does, what your describing is SABO rounds. They use pure kenitic energy to punch through armor. A barret .50 caliber sniper rifle, while "used" for "anti-material" operations is generally used for extreamly long range anti-personal.
The .50 cal can be used on an engine block of a light vehicle, but thats about it. Use a LAW rocket for just about anything else.
So no, a T21 should not be a commando's equal.
I really find your posts about RL weapondry fasinating to read JVoss. Never knew a lot of those things.
And it looks like Zarl0k retreated with his tail between his legs.
Yes, I do know that the Barrett has fans, but the bullet itself is loud during travel, and no suppression can stop the sonic boom. With a sub-sonic round, and a suppressed flash and shot, the only thing anyone hears is the bullet hitting the body, and the only way to get a bearing on the target is to figure out from the penetration in the corpse which general direction it came from. Yes, a single supersonic shot is very difficult to trace, but with subsonic, the second and third can come in without shifting position, most of the time, because there is no sound to trace in the first place.
I'm just a neophyte. I'm 4F from my eyesight, so never had a hope of getting into the reserves or army. I'm also a computer engineer, so there's no way they'd let me near the frontline... closest I might come is in the Eng Corps, but more likely they'd tell me to go sign on with Hughes or someone like that and design them a great missile for guys like you, or drop me in Intelligence. And being Canadian, not like I can find this stuff on the street corner. All my stuff comes from the gun rags, and friends' personal experience. I did my part by designing some systems for your NSSN back a few years ago. Wouldn't be surprised if I wound up back in military systems one day, but most likely radar or sonar work again.
I heard about the .50cal machine guns being set up like that. Still, I doubt you got the accuracy of the specially machined sniper rifles. Hey, I heard from one unreliable source that the top sniper shot in Afganistan is held by a Canadian. That still/ever true?
It might be.
You guys (the canadian team) used to win the top sniper competition all the time. This year though I beleive rangerswon it. I could be wrong.
but there is hope on the TC......t-21 is not an issue, its fixed, leave it alone...there is never going to be balance cause some profs do better at certain things then others....heres what should be going on...
Rifleman if they snipe a pistoleer and kill him in 2 shots thats fine.
Pistoleer if your close-range w/ a rifleman you should kill them easily.
Tera-kasi should wipe the floor w/ anyone close range.
carbineers kind of middle ground--sometimes will win agianst a pistoleer/rifleman
BH's should get bonuses when fighting anything sentient.they should be able to kill any other players....if they have correct tactics...they should be best pvp prof.... but they should get rocked by creatures...
Commandos - if we fight a rifleman and get up close and use the flamethrower we should win...if we tried to fire rockets a distance we should lose....if we tried to fight a pistoleer from 64m using a rocket launcher we should win...close-range it should be close to 50/50....carbineers depending on tactics it should go 50/50....
i think this is what should be going on in swg....
i think what is going to make commandos strong is the fact they can use all these different weapons at different ranges.....plus we should have the most devastating weapons in the game....
i believe there should be NO Balance. Balance = Boredom....
I Believe each **Combat** prof should do well in certain situations...the fact that commando will do well in all situations is what makes him a commando.
after writing all this im going to post it in my own thread.....cause it seems deserving of it...
rez
No idea about this year's competition, or if it was even held, considering 1/2 the participants would be in Afganistan and Iraq, and the other 1/2 wouldn't want to go.
I've heard some rumors about some nasty behind the scenes work by sniper teams during the main war in Iraq. Your boys have a lot to be proud of.
2k .. wow.
I hadn't heard that ... that would be one fine shot. These days .. who knows though.
Nah.. I don't feel taunted by the canadian team "issue". I never competed. I was never the best. I was good though. Good enough to go to the school and all.
I try to keep abrest though. Even though I havn't picked up a rifle since I left the army. I don'f feel Like I really want to.
Anyways, I don't doubt it was 2k meters now.
