Thread: Faction Purchasable Rocket Launcher
Personally I'd be happy with an alternative, remember how in the movies these things could be brought down with rope and logs? Ok, well not that we need rope and logs, but instead a way to incap an ATST for a short period of time, where they're vulnerable to attack, but say the vulnerability could last for 1-2 seconds, but could only be used once every 15-20 seconds. Sure, make it a weapon like an EMP (electro-magnetic pulse) gun that's bought with faction points. This way it's not an end all-be all weapon that can be used to exploit other parts of the game, but gives a smaller group of rebs some options when under attack. Just some ideas.
tahtoo
dued a flamer that cost 10k kill atsts or a lp(lag pistol
)that cost 25k in the hands of a master pistoler kills a atst whats the diff bettween 10k and 5k fp it just makes it alitel more pratical then useing a pistol to kill a atsts or burning a asts
if anything, the atst should be stronger. if you recall, at this point in the movies, the empire still has an iron grip on the galaxy, and if you will recall from the first movie, the galactic senate was disolved, which, more or less, gives the empire complete control of the galaxy. so why would an imperial-run galaxy be in any way sympathetic to the rebel cause? think logicly people.
and as it stands now in the servers, rebs outnumber imps in some cases as much as 3:1. with numbers like that, you should focus more on teamwork and organization than crying nerf on the forums.
deus, the atst is a SCOUT VEHICLE. Its NOT A TANK. 2 logs crush it. How much armor do you fricken think it has? Heck a minivan these days can take more damage than an atst in the movie could. The fact that even a non-combat proffession can use an atst is enough advantage for the empire. You have no idea how big this is as an advantage until you see the empire attacking a rebellion base with 6 atsts controlled by master tailors/master bio engineers (zero combat skills) amongst them.
The alliance has no answer to that. Note, answer, not 'equivalent' pet.
To use these launchers the rebel player has to be commando. Big limiting factor #1.
To purchase these launcher the rebel player has to get 4k fp. The imp player, once he gets the atst, can very easily farm 9k fp with it. Rebel players cannot.
Faction Rocket Launcher needs to hit atst 5 times to destroy atst each shot 6 seconds. Thats 30 whole seconds that the rebel commando has to spend kneeling, making himself an easy kill FOR the ATST and for his owner.
News for you: ATST kills players in 2 to 4 shots depending on their armor. That means the commando can get off the first shot and then he's practically dead meat unless he has support from a medic or the atst is not shooting at him (busy attacking someone else).
4k faction points are wasted in 30 shots. Of those 30 shots, a good 10 will miss, the remaining 20 are burnt xp, as they cannot be 'recharged'. Unlike the atst, which does heal its ham bar over time like a pet does (minus wounds). Once the last charge is used, its gone. ATST lasts for a hell of a lot longer than the rocket launcher will.
Incase you guys havnt noticed, the movies worked the way they did because it was in the script, do you honestly think a buncha teddy bears with sticks could defeat an imperial detatchment that size? I don't care HOW many there were they would have been stuffed and shipped out as toys for little girls and boys.
And haveing two logs that largesmashing into something from either side would crush anA1-Abramtank into dust (amazeing how fast those two trees were cut and set up for that trap, especially considering the trap setters tiny stature). Thats ALOT of force from both sides. If you scaled a pair of logs up to an AT-AT's size it would have the same effect, wood happens to be rather heavy sometimes.
The AT-ST istherebecause evenSOE isn't stupid enough to believe that the rebels and imperials would be balanced in PC numbers. The rebels would have had a huge advantage without the AT-ST, and DOES have an advantage anyway.
Stop whining and just enjoy the **edit** game, sometimes I fail to see a point in these boards, just a nest for complainers to fester and ruin the game.
I have noticed on this thread every single imp hates this idea non of them accept the idea rebs deserve any power at all. All they want is to run around killing rebs pointlessly. Well ever think about we need someone to fight and so do you? I am reb and I speand lots of time in AH but when a hole gang of master sharpshooters, pistoleers, commandos, and the novice artisan with 3 At-St's comes into town its not much of an incentive to run out at go overt to get killed. I am currently going commando and droid engineer and I have pretty good combat skills into the carbinier class. But when I can hardly take out a storm trooper why am I and the 50 other covert rebels gonna even bother when maybe one of us is a commando and has a remote chance of taking one down. Maybe we should have faction only city wide chat type things so we can organize stuff easyer. Even give rebs the possiblity of placing some sort of super turret type thing in a base and when an AT-ST comes in if the guys is over and a member of the base(we need base memberships) can call in a strike but who knows how many faction points that would require and giving a limited range would require certain people for each city and planet and only they can take out the thing. I don't know many novice artisans with no combat skills that can survive 1 secound overt. Also Rebels could get a /overt /covert options to switch outside of citys to fun in an attack so we could build up before going overt. I have had times where I get DBed withen 1 sec of overt and it has happened many times. Also Imps could get the super turret idea but they really wouldn't have much to use it on and if they made it require say 1k energy from a generator to fire 1 shot it wouldnt be somthing trown around easily.
Tacwraith you hit it right on the head for me. Any imperial who says that a rocket launcher shouldnt be able to take down a ATST is a complete halfwit.
Why? They got destroyed by LOGS YOU MORONS. Think about this for a second. Set all your bias's aside and actually think clearly a second(if you can). which is more powerful? a pair of logs or a Propelled rocket with a heavy armour piercing explosive warhead?
Cmon guys grow a bloody brain here! Even if you ignore the movies and read info from the extended universe and the encyclopedias of information listing its spec's etc they ALL state its a very lightly armoured scout vehicle that gets taken down reasonably easy. Get a clue!
If you ask me they are just scared that they will actually have to develop some strategy and combat skills when it comes to battles and 1 on 1 combat.
lets recap for them
1. ALL imperials regardless of class can use this war machine, requiring no combat skills etc
2. only one specific type of rebel profession stand a chance of taking em down.
3. its LIGHTLY armoured.
4. how can you sit there and seriously tell me a HEAVY armour piercing EXPLOSIVE warhead barely scratchs a lightly armoured vehicle?
Now yes this is set in a time when the imperials have a semi iron grip on the galaxy(the rebellions gaining lots of support at this time due to the destruction of the first death star) but that doesnt mean theres thousands of ATST's running around every city and battlefield. Honestly im sick of this stupid feckwitmoron retort to the whole GCW. YES imperials are supposed to have a grip on the worlds but that does not Fecking mean you should all be running round with ATST's.
more storm trooper partols in town with beefed up hams, sure. cheaper perks perhaps for the empire to represent mass production, sure. covert scanners here and there to pickup rebs, sure. but not every bloody imperial and his mother running around with a ATST.
i mean honestly what a stupid thing to do. Do you really think thats how it was in the movies or the extended universe?
Vader: my master we have cemented our iron grip on the galaxy.
Emperor: how?
Vader: we gave every trooper a pet ATST.
Emperor: **edit**?????
Lets be serious here. they ruled the galaxy by placing garrisons of troops all over the place, invading areas of known rebel sympathy etc. They did not flood every area with ATST's.
uhh anyway went off on a tangent there....
its got light armour so be realistic or your no better than the sad little kiddies that sat on quake, counter strike, and all those little online games screaming and crying when you killed them.
hehehe.... yeah they flooded places with troops, but the sad stat of it is, most comps wouldnt be able to handle having those numbers in the game. I know my comp almost dies now in coronet, add 50+ stormtroopers patrolling, lag city.
having never fought an AT-ST i dont know what kind of a challenge they would be to fight. Also the thing is that the trees in ROTJ probably weighed well over 1000 tonnes each.... thats a lot of wood.... they would take out almost anything.
Maybe instead of a FP RL have a new skill for commando's using RL and the like, something like a leg shot that would be hitting the vunrable leg areas, give it a longish delay counter and a very large dmg multiplier and there ya go, anti atst but not terribly usefull for pvp.
