Thread: E-Web...An Interesting Idea to discuss...

So both people standing still while Rifleman blast their faces off with T-21s and Jawa Rifles?
This weapon suggestion is obviously not meant for close quarter fighting PvP...it's meant for targeting bigger, more stationary targets like Turrets and ATSTs...I'd hope if someone was fighting a Rifleman, they would switch to one of our other weapons instead...Right now how effective is the Rocket Launcher at fighting a Rifleman? Basically the E-Web would work with the same restrictions...
Just because we are kicking around this idea doesn't mean this is the only weapon we are going for...We are still trying to get a revamp for the HAR and possibly get the cert forthe Beam Rifle...
Im for but also against...
I think it should be a commando only weapon (master level maybe...use a "pooled" special hvy weapon mods) and should have the normal specials/etc that as of other weapons
BUT
I am for where SL's drastically improve it...maybe even adding more damage or better targetting...or better yet...having it as a rally point in base defense or something....i dont like the idea of commando's being dependent on another class one bit...but i do like the idea that the SL will improve it as a whole as its more a point-defense emplacement (this could be the blueprint for all other future turret additions)
Thus...give SL bonuses for "mountable" turrets...but give us the cert mods specials etc
Just hit me...
Make an E-Webb equipable maybe? where its a regular hvy gun...and it can only be deployed if an SL is in the group....Or make it where if a commando stops walking, he deploys it..when he does..he cant shoot (like the graphic of the elite trooper version in Battlegrounds)...but the SL can only "fortify" it

On those grounds you cant give just the commandos or just the SL's a cert and say "heres a new toy, go play". What will happen is Commandos will go buy it (or even SL's) then go take their new uber toy and go solo crap with it......which is not what it is intended for (at least not from reading the post in the SL forums)
How do folks see the E-Web operating?
The way I envision it, it's like a Droid or a Vehicle...it sits in our Datapad rather then in our inventory and can't be equiped...Instead it's called out when needed...Once called, it sits stationary and can't be moved (it is a tripod weapon after all, you really can't run around with it)...You then target the thing you want to shoot, and it works similar to a Rocket Launcher in function, but isn't consumable. Think of it almost like a mini-player turret that you can carry around with you to call out when needed...
When grouped with a Squad Leader, a Commando would gain increased accuracy and speed with the E-Web...
With all this in mind, I highly doubt that either a SL or a Commando would be running around using it to solo stuff...The Rocket Launcher would probably still be better for us when fighting solo...The E-Web would be best saved for using when attacking another "stationary" target like a turret...or on a battlefield where several SLs and Commandos can line up a series of these weapons and createa line of E-Webs...
Do I have the wrong idea of what an E-Web should be? And am I fooling myself on how it should or would be used? This isn't like getting a new rifle...it's a big gun that, for us to get, must have a purpose to serve that we can show the devs is currently lacking in our profession...
Thoughts?
what i threw up on the SL forum when this was posted was, firstly, that the idea was sound and good. It had been brought up before in the past.
What DiLune and Garvin brought to the table, for us, was the concept of a joint-weapon for squad based support.
I also think, based not only on the history of it, but th elogic of it...that an E-web blaster would not be fully-effective used by just one person solo. it is a crewed weapon for all intent and purpose.
If this is doen AS a squad weapon and a joint venture then it should only be FULLY effective with both SL and Commando present. If the devs wanna make it a new commando toy, then thats fine too. But it really, i dont believe, was designed as such. If it is done in the spirit of a co-op venture then it needs to have a few limitations on it as to what each profession can do with it individually.
I hope to see this thing get into the game though....and I know the commandos need some more new toys as much, and probably more, than anyone else. My girlfriend is a commando and i hate seeing her toting aroudn the same old FT all the time.
Take a Scout Blaster.
Marksmen can use them. Pistoleers can use them. Bounty Hunters can use them. And Smugglers can use them too.
Every porfession of the above mentioned have acess to this weapon, but each one has different abilities that augment the gun itself. Pistoleers can dodge and AE attack, BHs can hit the mind exclusively, Smugglers can KD at range and delay multiple opponents.
To use the weapon to it's full potential you need 2 or more of the above skill sets.
Now, the proposed E-Web idea would take this even further. You don't need to have all the skill sets on your own template, but they can be spread over 2 characters.
Depending on the position the respective profession should have while using the gun, you can grant specials to them, i.e. Commando = Gunner, SL = Ammo Support. The Commando should then get specials that affect the shooting directly (special Cone attacks, for example AE Supression fire or heavy directed fire at a single target) while the SL gets abilities that affect the gun itself (temporarily increasing damage range, speed, or accuracy and maybe even AP). But both professions should get an OverchargeShot-esque basic attack (or maybe 2, a single target and a AE Cone one)
