Yeah, I've never understood why there are guides for an mmorpg at all. They constantly change making guides always outdated. It seems odd to me. The only thing odder to me is people actually buying them.

But whats the point of the guide if it just repeats the manual? I don't get it

"Aye techno, when i read the manual and later on the in-game description of the weapons and tools avaliable I thought the commando was going to be a competent gun user with access to heavy weaponry (in which the class excelled in). In short, someone who could hold his own for a while in a gunfight (but not exactly win in a gunfight vs the specialized gun proffessions), could hold his own in melee for a while (but again, not win it) but who excelled in the heavy area blast effect weaponry and single target high frontloaded damage fighting class that had access to all damage types in the game."

Bingo.

This is exactly what I've been talking about when I refer to being versatile in my posts. Not only would this give commandos a role, but it would allowe rifleman, carbiniers, or pistoleers who want to be 100% combat specialists to become a certain type of commando - creating diversity even among masters. The only thingI might suggest is maybe adding a few specials in for rifles/carbines/pistols that are in between our marksman skills and the master elite skills in effectiveness, that way there's actually a point to using them as well, but we would still never beat a master of an elite combat profession at their own game (unless we were a master of both anyways...)

We are TH's playtoy of the month...

"Hmmmmm...I wonder what I can screw up this month by coming up with a hare-brained idea that makes no sense and that I am not going to run by the players until after the developers finish implementing it....

'Foolish boy. Don't you know anything about Fantasia? It's the world of human fantasy. Every part, every creature of it, is a piece of the dreams and hopes of mankind. Therefor, it has no boundaries.'
'But why is Fantasia dying then?'
'Because people have begun to loose their hopes and forget their dreams. So the nothing grows stronger. It's the emptiness that's left. It's like a despair, destroying this world. And I have been trying to help it.'
'But why?'
'Because people who have no hopes are easy to control. And whoever has control has the power'

You know, I havent posted here....some people might have heard of me, or some with me. As an (almost Master) Commando I have NEVER been ridiculed by anyone. In fact, I have been praised for helping clear out mobs that are attacking people with flame cone, and then just to get asked to be 1 on 1'd by a TKA who would just keep knocking me down, until I cant get up. We are a great profession, if anything I would like to see some more diversity......more use for our Acid Rifles, maybe throw in a special for master commando for Launcher Pistol, got to fix grenades, maybe use blind, or knockdown as a bonus to them. I really would like to see COMMANDO missions where we get to take on ATST's via a Commando Mission Terminal. That would really be cool, and would keep me interested in the profession. Commando is all I have been, and all I really want to be. I used a holocron a couple weeks ago when I was a 2/2/2/2 and it told me to master commando, when I was already well on my way.

For anyone who's interested there is an interesting discussion ofthe history and training of real commandos (British and U.S. primarily) this report:

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/report/1989/BJW.htm

Which basiclly argues for them being elite combatants which are not used as "support troops".

Well, the SWG commando from the beginning was clearly defined as a Heavy Weapons Expert. That is, something very different from the dictionary definitions for the word "commando", which will describe the Commando soldier of 20th-century Earth.

As for what it SHOULD be, I think it should stay a HW expert. Screw infiltration tactics, light weapons, weird hi-tech equipment, and static demolition charges.... I will stick with my HPBC and flamethrower.

Well, I suppose from TH saying all classes will be balanced (hinting at skill pt cost not being a factor) I would say our purpose is a skill points sink.

I think the devs named this profession with the whole "Rambo/Arnold/movie action hero" character in mind.

That would be really great, if they lived up to that image.
