Thread: How hard are flamethrower dabblers going to be nerfed?
BTW, to the original poster... FT is not gonna get nerfed before they take your 3ATST's and make it so you can only use one of them, and then only in PvP.
And why couldnt you be on sunrunner... I really like ATST hunting... everyone seems to keep them hidden now... frickin imps ruining all my fun... bring em out and let me blow em up again.

Master Commando
Flamecone 2 is better, and it rocks ![]()
For the record, I've found every tree in Commando except Acid Rifle (**edit** that accuracy mod) rewarding. And master? Not an instant benefit, but the first time a tanking friend is smacking up a high-end Kusak lair with 10 critters around and you toss a 1500-4k dmg Proton grenade atsaidlair.... Well, your combat exp meter will love you and you can get TKA defenses that much faster ![]()
Out of the three times I've fired my RL (truly a waste for Imperials, other than for the non-bugged radius), I've always hit. Occaisionally my HPBCs (well-crafted to hit the magic 4k max damage mark) will even get a hit in from 10m when I accidently touch it off (when I'm running, no less). Blasting multiple critters with two stacking flame DoTs? Pure gold. Master Commando is the ultimate PvE class (assuming you have a tank handy).
The best way to help stem dabbling without suffocating it would be to spread out the benefits of specific weapons over a number of trees.
For example, the 2.5x mod could still exist on the flamethrower, but each level of Field Tactics could reduce it by a little bit. Say by .5 in each box, then the final .5 in Master. So the Master has a very tangible advantage over the dabblers since he takes no extra damage from melee attacks, but the dabblers still get to keep the powerful flamethrower and use it with all the mods and specials afforded by the FT tree. There's just more incentive to take the extra Field Tactics tree, since without a group the dabbler finds himself....well, where we all are right now.
Its wrong when dabblers are as powerful as a master:
in commando, flame IV is same as master
in CH, first two branches to the left gives you pets same as master..
when you're able to get the BEST stuff in a proffession, without having to MASTER it (generally when you master things..you're the best right??) is an insult to dabbling
and from TC, there wont be a flame IV nerf...instead we're getting +30 FT accuracy in master
but in my opinion, we should also get reductions in melee mod at master...keep 2.5X same for novice, reduce by .5X at lvl IV (not each, but if you reach lets say flame IV, you will get a 2X penality rather than 2.5X, but if you dont have HAR IV, you get a 2.5X penality with that) then an additional .5-1.0X reduction at master
so at master, we get better accuracy PLUS we get a 1-1.5X reduction in the 2.5X penality (to make a 1.0-1.5X total...which is more acceptable and more in tune with pistoleers and carbineers)
but tbh, we should also get added Spd as well with our hvy weapons, and more accuracy for HPBC/streamer/LC as well - only the +25 ranged/melee mods should stay, and the +5 def vs KD..that alone is MEAGER compared to lowly pistoleer defenses! our proffession should be more concentrated on offense and how to deliver that offense effectively
for example: at master, with a 1.5X reduction in the penality, thats not entirely a defense, its more of an offense since the commando knows how to handle his situation and prevent the enemy from gaining the upper hand, enabling the commando to deliver his deadly blows!
Its all logical...
yea its +30 HAR/FT accuracy, +25 melee/range, +40 Rocket Launcher
all a welcome addition, not to mention much needed
I personally love the commando profession, if i could master it i would however being a MCH kind of forces me to be a dabbler in MANY professions that take up more than 2 novice base professions and at least 1 line in those professions. Im not complaining about the commandos upcomming changes because this profession needs to be alittle more balanced with the LLC (yeah the dot is great but it needs to be cahnged to accually calculate the amount of resists on a certain mob of that type of resist.)
I just wish that everyone who complains about dabbling or dabblers would just stop it becuase those of you who are complaining about a MCH with a flame thrower...how many of you have novice medic??? And even if you don't have novice medic you are still a dabbler by the game communities example...becuase you only took up part of a profession to get commando...and i know many commandos who don't even bother with at least 2 trees in the commando becasue they useless right now.
My point is, this game was built to mix and match your professions, some combonations are better than others giving teh weilder of that set of skills even more power than someone who is doing something else. If you think this is wrong then you have a problem, the devs made this an 'everyone is equal' sort of game, to where anyone can take any skills they want so instead of havingprofession envy ...why not just change your profession to something that you would more enjoy because OBVIOUSLY if you can't handle someone with 3 pets and a flame thrower and you throw a little fit about it then you arent' happy with your profession or the game for that matter.
Thats my 2cr,

If what we see on TC is what's coming over the the regular servers, then Dabblers will be 100% exactly the same...no nerf...the only thing different on the TC is enhancements to the Master Commando Level...so if you want to be a truely killing machine with your heavy weapons (with +25 on Melee Defense) you'll want to go all the way to the Master level...if not, dabblers will still have what they have now...I'm going for the Master level myself...
And on a side note...no matter what anyone says, EVERYONE who plays SWG is a Dabbler...100% of all players...unless of course all us Commandos only have Master Marksman, Unarmed Master, and Commando Master skills...if you put any skill points anywhere else...guess what, your a dabbler (not a commando dabblers, but a medic dabbler, or a scout dabbler, or a pistoleer dabbler, or a smuggler dabbler, or a tka dabbler...and so on...get the point?)...
I can hardly read any of the forums here anymore.....
WARNING...........I got a lil carried away and wandered a bit in my post. Feel free to skip towards the end a tad.
Jesus, we all know the game drives you crazy. LAY OFF beating on dabblers though. Oh an yeh.... im a commando 0,4,4,0 and a CH 4,4,0,4 so my entire being in SWG is dabbling. PvP? , nope. Feel inadequate because I'm not a master of any elite Prof?,,, hell no. What do I care.I like my character exactly as it is.
Only thing I do know is that with ALL the changes coming along any day now I have only logged in one time in the last week. Thats going down from playing easily 30 hours a week. I am terrified that whatever joy I had in this game is about to go completely out the window. Decay this. Useless that. I can master Ch or Commando in ONE DAYgive or take the time it would take me to get some more combat xp since the cap for that is soooooo low. I have the XP nicely stored up for either one and am waiting out this patch to decide which way i should go. Nov medic will finally be saying bye bye soon.
Do you all know what I think? Commandos should get over themselves. Then again, every profession needs to get their own realitycheck. This game has entered the absurd and reading much of the stuff posted here only adds to it. The devs definitely make it worse by catering to it as much as they do. Fix this. oh, this lil group is unhappy,,, so we will fix that.... oh... **edit**... now those guys are pissed. We all know the drill.
I qualified for novice commando long long before I ever turned to CH. Matter of fact the only reason I did anything with Ch was because I was waiting on the fixes for commando weps way back when. Commando is what i consider my character to be at heart. Is there any reason to master it though? No, and all of you know it. If the master tag means that much then do it. Otherwise then leave people alone who decide to do other things with their skill points. Should (and hopefully will) master mean something, Hell yes!!!!! but it doesnt. I oh so wish I could justify mastering it so i could toss grenades but the HAR tree alonethrows that out the window. I will NOT throw away the points for something I will never use. Fix it and we can talk. And What they are doin to master seems like a start but is most likely not nearly enough. Its just another case of the devs trying to quiet down a certain percentage oh people with a couple of handhouts.
My character originally was envisioned as being a Commando/Rifleman. I held rifle for a very long time and felt dirty when I surrendered first the boxes i had there and finally Nov itself. Why was I at first goin for that combo though? Rifle just seemed more my thing to add to the commando stuff And I'd heard of weps I might get to use as a commando. Back in those days commandos were a rare thing. It took me some loud yelling at starports over a pretty good amount of timeto even ever learn where a commando trainer was. I was under some misconceptions as I think many of use were. I learned that commando was broken from these very forumswell before I actually qualified for it but I didnt care. I had much more faith in SWG back then. Things I had wrong though was believing that since my Pistol skills were useful for my only working weapon I could hope that Rifle might be useful as well. Something called a beam rifle sounded interesting and for that matter a "Heavy Acid Rifle" WOW. Now, weps like these didnt really exist until the day of the fixes. Once they did exist everyone learned quick what had actually been fixed and what hadnt. My misunderstanding about what skills could be used where had been cleared up prior of course....again thanks to these forums that were once useful.
Since those joyous days of hellfire we all remember when suddenly we could actually fry things to the ground and not just be special effects wizards things have only gotten worse. Did they fix weps? Yes and no. Its like they teased us. Many people had actually spent a LOT of time getting up the skills trees prior to the weps fixes. I respect that and cringe thinking of it. Mastering commando is not a hard thing to do now though is it? Least its not for me, but i suppose that must be to BLAME for my CH skills not becuase I chose a good complimenting skill set.
What I see in these forums and others like CH is people who have mastered a profession complaining that it isnt worth it to be at the top and almost want to see anyone else below them punished for it. I look at what my character is and think to myself hmmmm, She does what i want her to do and these guys with a lil more skill are unhappy. The only result I have seen so far from all of this talk......all of this crap...... is that people are being hurt. Again master should definitley mean something. What it should mean though is something more like a culmination of all those trees below it and never at the expense of someone who only wants to specialize in one. Without justification though you are only a master of nothing. Master Flamethrower is what it looks like is coming along with the new patch. I am envious of those grenades and that melee dam modifier would be nice but Ill have to see what happens over CH ways before I decide. Bite the bullet time is coming and I am somewhat annoyed that I am being forced to it because of all this ruckus. Why cant they jsut Fix HAR, Fix commando, fix weps certs? Whatever. If there really was a reason to use anything excpet a flame thrower none of this crap would be goin on. As it stands and what it looks like to continue being its not about to end anytime soon.
I will shut up now. I have typed out all this mess, not said very much of anything coherent and definitely let it turn in to something of a rant. For that I apologize. I still intend to stick out this game for a bit longer. It just looks like complete and utter mayhem when I look in any of these forums anymore.

I know that the flame thrower will no longer be able to incap critters (i think) - but - i personally - dont think there is a thing wrong with dabbling - anything you can do to educate yourself to become more skilled is a compliment to your adaptability.
I often think - what will make me a more efficient commando - novice pistoleer will enhance my bleed when using my trusty little bread and butter LP, Who doesnt dabble in novice medic - i mean, cmon - we all do it, even the thought that we all dabble in many professions to even get into this hybrid class, dabbling in TKA post Master commando i have heard is extremely smart.
Its kinda tiring hearing from all the anti dabblers - but by all means - carry on - you have the right to express your opinion - but it just seems narrow minded not to dabble - when you can increase your efficiency as a merciless killing commando, or you can not dabble and find yourself more in the med center than actually on the field of combat - just a thought
