Thread: How hard are flamethrower dabblers going to be nerfed?

Dabblers shouldnt be nerfed. There should just be more of an incentive to be a master. This way masters wouldbe be angry at dabblers...they would pity them. It DOES suck that a flame4 commando is as good as a master but who's fault is that? The dabblers? Or SOE for not giving the master skills in the master box that should make the whole thing worth it? This system was designed for dabbling, to punish dabblers is an oxymoron.

ALL dots will be only able to take down a mob to 1 hp and no more. We don't get hit as hard as smugglers. Most smugglers use bleeds then play dead till their dot kills the creature. Now they actually have to stay up for the whole fight and use feign death only for a way to escape battles and not win them. I believe that was the reason why they they put the limits on dots because of the smuggler tactics of feign death.

I wish people with only flame 4 would set themselves on fire about half the time they use a flame shot. That would be so funny and rewarding since I got master and with our weakness to close up fighting I just stay back a spam HPBC or stopping shot with my LP until they run up to me then I run because the flame shots are a death sentince in pvp if they miss or don't do enough to kill in the first shot.

As a Master commmando , working on Master Smuggler I believe all elite professions should be devoid of all dabblers . A dabbler is a leach . I believe true proficiency should not be bestowed until mastership is granted. You can use the weapon until then but make it only 33% effective until then. Grade weaponeffectiveness as a part of xp. Also because people are going to flame this suggest. I would recommend Weapon use be spread across the tree to prevent climbing one branch, like CH. I would also suggest making getting XP a tad easier if this is implemented, however. LOL SOE does what it wants until thier profit line starts to get hurt.

see Coorva though,

You actually stated exactly why you feel this way. Because you are a master commando about to master another elite profession as well and you dont like it that people who havent done what you have can match you. They CAN'T match you. With specific skills they can but not in the profession as a whole. Yes, Yes, I know that the only valuable part is what everyone gets. Again, not their fault. You do have abilities that dabblers do not. You can throw grenades, fire the HAR and actually hit something with all the expendables. Now, if you did this just so that you could wear the master tag I think that was a pretty bad reason. If you did it wanting to be a true master commando then I think people who worry about dabblers should stop and only devote their attention to gettin the profession fixed. Fixes should start with other trees and end with master, not be focused by the community on one group of players.

Master should mean something. Hopefully that fix is coming. Comments like the poster above here a bit that he wishes all 0040 commandos would light themselves on fire is crazy though to me. Why? What are they doing to you? They simply chose to play the game differently than you. Many of those commandos would most likely add in more of the commando lines if they thought it was worth it. For those people it would have to come at the expense of something else. They cant justify it at the moment. I can't justify it at the moment. My other primary profession, CH, forces me to be a mere dabbler in both. The points simply dont exist for me to master both and the way I have chosen to do it is parcel my points out to get the best things from both. As I put in that crazy post above though, with changes, adaptions will have to be made. If more than just the Flame tree and, in my case, the heavy weps tree become viable then I would have to reevaluate my characters situation. The same applies over CH ways, though a choice to master that would only involve me having to sacrifice Nov medic.

I really do wish that commandos had a different weapon to use than the flame thrower. Yes, the LP is there as a second wep. It just doesnt do it to me. When I switch to pistol weps its usually just to my old FWG instead of it. I was drawn to commando because of the variety of weapons. It just didnt turn out that that was really the case now did it. HAR was originally what I figured I would be in love with. I wanted to be a kickass commando rifleman blasting people with Acid. We didnt and dont seem to be getting such a second wep. I also wish the Beam Rifle worked. I'm very confused why weps like that can be crafted but the cert cant be fixed. Laziness perhaps? Grenades, I know, do work. But an entire tree for just them and the actual impact grenades have on combat for the target let alone yourself makes them less attractive.

Anyways, people should lay off the dabbler bashing. Devote all that aggravation at the profession and get it fixed not take it out on fellow players. Do I want more from commando? Yes. Is it there for me at the moment? No.

What's the matter with you people that don't like dabblers? We all have 250 skill points. It does not take any profession 250 skill points to master. So everyone is going to have skills in different areas.

To the person that said they'll hope the dabblers set themselves on fire, that they'll sit back and use stopping shot on them. Um, you're a hypocrite. Stopping shot is not a commando or a markman skill. This means you are DABBLING. Get over yourself, there will always be someone better than you.

People will pick up novice medic since it makes their downtime shorter. People pick up novice pistoleer for the 2nd health bleed. People pick up alot of different skills based on what they want to do. Stop whining about it. That happens ina skill based game.

People at 0040 commando are not a better commando than a master. They might be a better player than a master but that does not make them a better commando.

I do plan on reaching master commando then dropping all but the FT. Gernades are too expensive to use, rocket launcher isn't all that great, HAR is pointless. Plus there is a few other professions I want to check out as well.

The game is about how you build your character, not professions.Don't tell me or anyone else how I "should" build my character.

Why would they nerf dabbling. When you install the game it tells you all of the proffesions and it says be one or be all you choose your destiny.

The point of me saying I spam stopping shot was use to show that there is a problem with the system. There is almost no ham cost for spaming stopping shot for me even though I have no other pistorleer skills (besides the ones I had to get to get stopping shot). I would just spam HPBC but they cost a lot and don't give a lot of charges and the ham cost is very high. with stopping shot I'm almost as good as a master pistoleer but I see a problem with this and think it should be fixed.

Now as for the person that dabbles in commando and CH I don't blame you, I don't know why I keep most of my skill points tied up in useless trees, it's not like SOE will fix them anytime soon, but I'm stuburn. if you see what I'm getting at the players aren't at fault it's SOE for only giving us 2 useful trees.

As for people setting themselves on fire it would be funny and reallisitic. half the time is a little too often but you get the idea, even if it happened to masters every now and then it wouldn't be a problem and would help end the "commandos need to be nerfed" posts. but burning yourself would only be good after they fix the LP and HAR and we all know that isn't how SOE works. they will only fix the other stuff after they nerf the flamethrower.

look the point is a dabbler in medic cannot heal better than a master medic so why is it a dabbler in commando is better off then a master becsue he can put his points somewhere else. now nerfing commando dabblers would help clear out some of the commandos that just got it after they saw how good we were after the fix and then we could get some attention from the devs, but I hate nerfing to fix stuff. as some others said if they would fix the other lines that would help but we will still have the nerf bat waving over our heads the whole time.

so in the end there is no way to end the debate. fixing the other trees would just cause everyone else to cry nerf. nerfing dabblers will help get stuff fixed fasterbut as soon as it is fixed more people will come jumping on the bandwagon until the devs come at us with their nerf bats in hand to "fix" us again.

I remember when planetside was fun and a bunch of people played it, right up until the devs screwed it up. it doesn't look like this group of devs is any better.

RDHOmega:

I have to disagree with your analogy, since even if your just a dabbler in the medic line, you can get a mere 3 boxes in that tree, you canuse some very high end stims (admittedly, you can not make them, but even with OC4, your still better off buying stims made by Doctors anyhow, you can't match thiers) and be extremely close to what a Master Medic would be capable of.

Would you really have Mastered Marksman, if you hadn't been forced to? For myself, if I could be a Commando with just the pistol line, I know that would have been the route I chose, since the other weapons are simply a waste for me. The only thing I use from the Unarmed tree I was forced to get, is Warcry, and even that is not exactly a commonly pushed button.

The way to make Masters truly superior to those who choose not to Master a profession, is not by adding great bonuses to that Master box, but by making all of the tree's in a profession worth having. In the case of Commando, if the HAR was "just as good" as the Flame Thrower, but a different damage type, it would be worth having the tree. Same thing for entire line of grenadesand consumables, if they would up the charges on the Heavy Weapons, and do some rework on the grenade types, then that tree would be more valuable (it's at least usable now).

The reason there are so many who dabble in this game, and they are so effective as players, is that this game is filled with professions that have basically useless tree's in the prof. Take CH for example, since it's a dabbler favorite. If at the top of the Empathy tree, they added a skill that switched your regeneration stat's with your pet's (while not in battle only), instead of having people just buy a pet that knows the trick command already, and ignoring that entire tree, people would take the tree to be able to heal pet's out of battle without burning stims. They wouldn't be "forced" into doing it, but a CH with that tree would have a definate advantage over one that did not.

My 2 creds about dabbling and "balance":

I NEVER PvP.......always PvE.....it seems to me all the "balance" issues are geared toward the 30% of ppl that PvP in this game....If I want to have Commando 0040, and MCH, or Commando 0040 and BH 0344, who CARES if I'm using it to do missions for Jabba rather than attacking other players? My own dang business! If I want to solo a krayt, why shouldnt I be able to? Because I couldnt do it in real life? Well I play the game because I WANT to do things I cant do in real life.....in real life, I would never DREAM of attacking the krayt dragon that lives in the woods behind my house without a group of my friends. (Hope you get my point).

I'm a proud dabbler who is just about fed up with all the nerfs I suffer for the sake of (minority) PvP balance.

Seriously, NOTHING against the PvP'ers, more power to ya....I know PvP is a fun part of the game for most ppl and it has to be taken into consideration.....but the game mechanics revovle around PvP, while the theme does not. If nerfs for PvP's sake continue to rob the game of fun, I'm out.

A lot of people are talking about nerfing dabblers, I have a suggestion that I think some of you would like & even more... the dabblers... would hate.

Maybe the devs can take the ELITE professions & have you have to complete all of the first level skills in each branch/tree for the profession before they can get the next skill in any of the branches/trees.

So if you have 1-0-0-1 you cant get 2-0-0-1 until you at least get 1-1-1-1,only then can you get 2-1-1-1. This would certainly prevent people from just dabbling. I do not know if this would work with all the elites professions, but to be fair they should have it apply to elite professions.

That's my suggestion... now let the flames begin...

This game was meant to dabble otherwise they would have you pick your "class" just like any other online RPG. It is all people who exploited or sat on your porta potty 24/7 to get to master in the first week who want it ruined for anyone else. Get a life or a job whatever comes first, I am sick of you people with too much time on your hands whining about "dabblers".
