Someone please correct me if I am wronge here. You can use your specials from other branches. So you do not have to grind ANY pistoleer to use the LP, in the case you want to be a rifleman/commando. However you will have to rely on your generic modifiers and not weapon specific modifiers. Please stop complaining about being forced to grind up pistol when you do not have to. It has been stated a thousand times that specials from other branches and professions carry over. Plus overcharged shot is gained from ranged support anyways.

Its not the specials its the speed and accuracy mods. You get two weapon at novice the MK and the LP. If the MK gives HW xp then you can use the speed and accuarcy from uarmed to help grin a level box in a commando skill tree however I believe the MK is giving unarmed xp. So that leaves the LP. As the LP is a pistol this requires you to get the pistol line in order to grind a box till you get atleast one HW cert. I believe this makes the low level of a commando much harder to grind than most other proffessions.

Is anyone out there grinding commando without the pistol line? How are you doing it? Whats the experience?

Why you think all thosepeople grinding force xp are doing it?

Be aware that Grenades just went through a new series of changes over the last couple of days on the TC5...You can no longer spam Grenades...The way it works now is you can throw the same grenade type once every 60 seconds (even though the spd says 100, it's actually 1 time every 60 secondsy)...BUT...You can throw a different Grenade type every 10 seconds...So in otherwords, you can't spam the SAME greande over and over, BUT you can use different grenade types every 10 seconds...

This change, which I don't think is all that bad the more I think about it, accomplishes4 things:

1) It makes us masters of grenades (since we get more grenade types as we progress...those with just c-12's can't use them as fast as we can with our different grenade types)..

2) It ends any fear of spamming Grenades (which should act as a deterence for FS Grenade grinders).

3) Stops us from spamming the same status effect over and over...it's over-powering to be able to spam the same effect over and over (how many of us hate, in the current game, when we get KD'd over and over and over...it's the reason I quit playing PvP)...

4) It makes us be smarter grenade users. We don't just point and click, but instead, have to think about what grenade to use next (and we may come up with good startegies for using which grenades in the best order). To me...that makes them "more fun".

I'm not playing on test center, but I do have a comment on the discussion on this board. It seems that SOE wants this game to take on a more group combat, am I correct? Then why are all the feedback about solo stuff. Does SOE want feedback as indiviuals, or groups grinding for xp together? And if the later, then why is the question pointed at a very specific xp grind? If we aren't supose to be able to solo hunt anymore, then why question if things are good/bad for a comando, I guess we have togo in groups and can't even solo creatures our same lvl? That's what I got out of the conversation. I don't mean to flame anyone, or sound stupid, but am I anywhere near the mark?

SOE wants to make group play more fun and inviting...they are NOT doing away with solo play...I'm a solo player and I've been playing on TC5 COMPLETELY solo and having fun...I have just about finished my marksman grind and working on my unarmed now...

I, so far, don't see ANY of these "anti-solo" concerns that some people have been anti-CU over...So, for that very reason, and to make sure that SOE doesn't take away the "solo'ability" of this game, we need to run tests and report back...

The key thing about the CU changes is that some things that are solo'able now were never meant to be solo'able...like the Corvette or Nightsisters or Krayt Dragons, etc...They are fixing those elements, but things like themeparks, caves, etc. that are meant to be solo'able, are staying solo'able....

I totally see what you are saying, thanks for clearing htat up for me. SO are they making some professions grinds slower then others? or is it slow going for everyone?

Wrong I logged on this morning, they're back down to speed 10. I got 2000 Combat XP in a minute's C12 lobbing in the noobie zone outside Eisley.

That may have been changed back for testing purposes...unless things have changed, the plan is to make it so that the same grenade "type" can only used once every 60 seconds...you SHOULD be able to use different grenade types every 10 seconds...

I'm curious if those plans changed...or if they decided to not enforce that restriction on C12s, but do enforce it on higher Commando grenades (something I'd love to hear test results on...at work all day and can't test it myself...plus I'm not a Novice Commando yet...I'm a slacker...lol)

God knows. You said it yourself, everything in the CU is "Today..." Hopefully C12s will stay throwable every 10 seconds, otherwise grinding the ~ 40,000 Combat XP needed for every elite ranged profession will take blooming forever.

Garvin, how are you able to level unarmed while having marksman skills? Im currently master marksman with novice carbineer. Im interested in getting smuggler too but when I try to get Unarmed skills from novice brawler I get 1 XP per kill with newbie critters and if I try to kill mobs at my level using unarmed its impossible.

Somewhat along the same lines I did the grind originally (before I knew I could use /healthshot from Pistol 4...but that was back Pre-CU of course)...I just bascially "started over" with Novice Brawler and have been doing the "slow unarmed grind"...In the past, we could equip the VK's and take the penalty, but gain the speed (which offset)...now that we can't equip them, the grind is going slow for me...but it's at least going...

XP is messed up currently...I can't remember how much XP I've been getting each day (haven't done much with my unarmed (as I said, I've just started), but one thing I had been doing was using my grenades to kill all the NPCs around and that come out of the lairs, then just using unarmed to take down a lair...if I recall, I was getting higher then 1 XP that route for unarmed...the trick is to kill everything that comes out of the lair before trying this...grenades should help you (at least they did before some of the recent changes) to take on mobs higher level then you).

Does anyone know the average XP granted from taking out a lair Unarmed? I'm talking just the Lair and not the mob that surrounds or comes out of the Lair...

What about grinding commando? Is there any alternative to grinding the pistol line or do we have to grind it in order to use the LP to grind up commando until we have a better cert'd weapon?

I was talking non-missions...When I was doing most of my grinding (before the grenade change), I was hitting mobs much more powerful then me, taking them all out with grenades mainly (which made it hard to judge the xp totals per kill), and then using non-grenade weapons to grind other trees like unarmed, pistol and rifle. This actually helped go up the pistol and rifle trees fairly fast...once it's just you and the lair, it's a breeze to get that "extra boost" of xp...

The main difference in the way XP is rewarded now is instead of the weapon dictating the amount of XP you get, its your own total level against whatever mob you kill. There is no way around this problem unless you group and the others do the damage for you. I am all for group play I love it but this is forcing you into have to group. There are many times where I want to get in and put 30 minutes of play time solo. With the new mechanic its gating me if I play solo.

I have complained about this many times in the forum and in the exit polls, but I think we need the correspondents to test this out and bring this problem up in the corr forums. This is the #1 problem I have with the CU at this moment. Everything else I love.
