Thread: Some Q and A on upcomming changes

Kavedawg,
Can't you ban someone from this forum? ![]()
AllGalaxies: Well, I won't say that I am here to earn your respect, but that doesn't mean I am sorry that you feel that way anyways. I will only say that I offered the idea as a suggestion to a problem, and that suggestion was passed around on this very board and I passed along ALL of the arguments that were made about it at the time. That's where my involvement ends. And I reiterate again that I am NOT saying this is the best solution here, meybe it isn't, maybe it is, I haven't seen it in action yet. what I AM saying is that right now a few folks seem to be trying to stir a tempest into a teapot. Personally I think some folks are making this a bit bigger of an issue than it really is.
Now, that being said, you do get certifications for taking Novice Marksman. So if you only have Novice Marksman and RWS then you still should not be using a CDEF. And if you happen to play a Wookiee you'd be nuts to not get yourself a good Bowcaser while you are at it.
Kiting your opoonent (or Burst-Poisoning) is still a valid tactic, IMHO, in that your target will have very few chances to actually get off any specials on you once any of their bars get pulled down to 1. Most specials require a HAM cost that would incap the poisoned person if they tried to do them, and the system won;t let you incap yourself that way. It's not something we see very much now so we just don't have a lot of experience wtih that scenario.
Personally I agree with all of the statments that suggest ALL DoTs should operate this way if CM DoTs will as well. I personally think the burst-poison tactic puts a CM in so very little danger as it is, that the idea that you might place yourself into a bit of danger to deliver that inapping blow doesn't seem like very much to ask from ANY DoT wielder.
I also agree to a lesser extent about the problem with hoping your random pool attack will hit the pool you poisoned. That could be a partial problem, but it could also be a suggestion of setting up a different tactic. You'd get stuck carrying one of each weapon though and it would require going up enough in each to get the targeted attack for each one (level 2, I think?) But at least those CMs who took Doc for the EPs from crafting can likely give up some of that to have some points to work with.
So all I'm saying here is that I'm just not convinced this change is all bad. It's jsut seems to me that it's different. Not really worse or better. The problems in needing to change some tactics seem to be outwieghed by some of the problems solved. I just don't see that it's an issue to get too emotionally caught up in or to feel that it's really gimping the class. I'm just not convinced of that, but like I said I really need to see it in action before making any real assessment and I suggest that the everyone try and do the same before passing judgement.
As for the length of time being a CM, TsunamiKata, I didn't think I suggested that you had been a CM for less time than me, I'm sorry if I did suggest that and I doubt I meant to suggest it. I did make that statment to another individual whocalled me a Moron and someone who probably didn't even play a CM, though.
THere are quite a few other CMs here playing the profession longer than I, but not by more than a few weeks. I was one fo the first MDs, and I had actually played one of those in Beta as well (not enough time with the character wipes to get up to CM back then.) So I am intimately familiar with the Medical Professions in that respect, at least.

Kavedawg,
Can't you ban someone from this forum?
no can't ban or lock threads
And for what justification, because I don't like something he did?
Come on, you want to oppress the alternate view now? Hmm...

I am guessing this refers to my comment on locking a thread, the reason for stating this is that this is a Question and Answer thread, not a Rant and Complaint thread. It was going good untill about 8 or 9 posts up

Look I have been a CM for3 months, I know a little about it OK? I make CM meds and sell them, but I don't need to justify myself to you. Oh yes, the reason I haven't posted on this board much is what is there to say, until something goes seriously wrong. Under your logic only a political pundit has the right to vote in an election. Get real!
I am on the boards and I have a voice. I think it is sick that our own correspondent contributed to a GIANT PvP nerf for the profession. Like I said, there aren't alot of Master CMs on shadowfire. I know of 3 that plan to quit the game and myself --- who will probably drop the skills if this nerf goes live.
Why do we need a correspondent that supports and helps to implement nerfs? I just am tired of getting nerfs and had hoped that ppl representing the CMs would try to stop them, not help in suggesting them.
Drop a poison, drop a disease. That fixes the +1 HAM as the disease will take away the last point. If you've played a CM you would know, and obviously you don't. And don't even bother to argue with me about CM because I live, breath and sleep as a Combat Medic.
And for you to come on to this board to say you've been a CM for 3 months while havinga registration date of 9/9/2003, I have to question your truthfulness there.
AllGalaxies wrote:
Obviously his idea was to come to our boards and put a big nerf on CMs. I have no respect for him at this point. It was a rotten thing to do, and only a hater would do such a thing. I know 3 CMs on Shadowfire that plan to quit the game because of the NerfZarlor has suggested as a cure for CMs. I myself plan to drop it and pick up something that at least will be viable in PvP if this goes live. Way to chase ppl out of a profession Zarlor. To think I used to think he was above nerfing other classes and instead chose to promote Doctor, now I see he is into nerfing other classes in order to promote Doctor.
Ummm.. OK. I guess all I can say is, where were you when the idea was suggested in the first place?
More than a few folks didn't see this as any kind of nerf (I still don't see it as a nerf, actually.)
All I can say is not only do I not ahte CMs, my intention in the near future is to start dropping Doc skills to change my template around, but keep CM. Yeah, I hate this profession that much that I would actually keep it. You can assign motives all you like, all I can do is say that no such motive existed on my part and everything done in the processwas made as public as I could possibly make it. In fact I think this change is possibl the biggest anti-nerf we could make. WHy? Because without it all the folks whining about poiosn lasting for 45 minutes were SURE to get us nerfed into oblivious uselessness.
Now feel free to offer some constructive criticisms of the method. Provide alternate solutions. I can assure you that Kavedawg has been passing along the stuff folks here have been talking about. But all we can do is offer the stuff up. It's up to our Dev and the SOE team to make any final decisions, here.
So feel free to call it a nerf, but if you haven't seen it in action, how do you really know it's a nerf? Just calm down a bit and let's try to approch this a bit more logically and come up with solutions. Right now I'm jjust seeing a lot of kneejerk emotional reactions. So keep it on the level and I think we'll all be better off for it.

You sir have no sense or honor! It is unbelievable that you would question my truthfulness. Does everyone you know post on the boards? My god, I had a BH on flurry in June, this is ridiculous --- obvioulsy you have nothing of any importance for me to hear since you think you know everything. Look at my post on the subject and tell me how that disease would have helped in that duel? Good luck because it would not have, it would have been too late. Before you attempt to call someone a liar, why don't you think instead you lapdog.
I did, started a new thread for this subject.
This band-aid fix is a farce and should be recognized as such.
I will not post on this thread again, it's like talking to 2 deaf ppl w/a little lapdog yippping at me.

While I agree that forum start date is not an indicator of time played (and that could have EASILY been a mistaken assumption) I would also suggest that you really should not be one to speak of honor when you so casually questioned mine above by suggestion I was a liar by misrepresenting the CMs while I did what I can to ensure the CM issues where put forth after Filth had stepped down. You questioned my character, my integrity and my honor. I chose to consider it was a matter for the heat of the moment, for one who was perhaps more niave on matters of honor as many modern Americans are. Yet you've decided to bandy the term about here.
Let me suggest only this. Personal attacks of such a nature, by anyone, not just you, are very inappropriate here. It is easy to hide behind the anonymity of the online persona, but your resputation will suffer nonetheless. It is easier for folks to take your suggestions far less seriously when presented with attacks and strong emotion embedded in them. I do not suggest that I am not guilty of the same, far from it, but I only offer this as advice. Spit it back at me if you will or if you must.
I have continuously offered that the entire process involving this suggestion was as completely public as I could make it at the time. Kavedawg was not even involved as a correspondent yet. The suggestion was made, other suggestions were offered and suggestions of the problems that MIGHT come from such a change were also made. I made all of those suggestions fully and completely known to our Dev. The final decision was his and the SOE team's to make, not mine. I did not even counter the suggestions that this would be a bad idea except to offer that I was personally unsure of exactly how it would work without seeing it in action. I still feel that way now.
I neither support norreject this change. I lean more towards support only because I have not been convinced that it would be as problematic as some have suggested. I do have to question the fairness, though, of having the ability to do things like toss a poison from 70m, or burt run at an opponent tossing a poison or AoE poison and running out of harms way only to terun when there is 0 danger involved. Not giving the other guy a chance in such a situation seems a bit awkward and unbalanced to me. And as such neither a challenge nor enjoyable. THat's just my take on it, though.
Of course you are free to not believe me, but if you wish to question the integrity of others, yet are unwilling to stand the the scrutiny of such questioning yourself, then perhaps you should consider looking deeping into the meaning of honor and courtesy. I can reccomend several excellent treatises on the subject, especially as they pertain to the birthplave of personal in Renaissance Italy should you be interested. In all I am simply asking that you please do not suggest that some harm was intended without knowing for certain that such was the case. When you assume the worst of others, then others are more willing to assume the worstof you. I ask that you at least take some time to step away and consider that advice. That's all.
Kavedawg you are the absolute worst person to have as our correspondant.
First of all you have no clue what it's like to PVP the combat medic, your a bloody CH for christs sake? How the bloody hell do you qualify to tell a combat medic/doctor that they no longer need the Doctor skills? You dont go CM/DR for the crafting bonus alone, its for the CURE POISON/DISEASE, BUFFS, HUGE HEAL PACKS, much larger heals. I can't believe this is actually happening to the combat medic.
The CM correspondant is supposed to support and represent the combat medic - PERIOD. Not the combat medic/CH/marksman - who finds every reason to justify the total
How can you find any way to see something good in this patch? I dont want to hear how your alter ego CH skills allow you to solo this mission on Dant or that your creature does all the work because your poisons don't tick for much, Go BE A BLOODY CH CORRESPONDANT!
I can understand your not comepletely getting this whole bad patch/update concept, because with your skills its impossible for you to PvP well, if you do at all. I have 5 accounts Kavedawg, SOE can get their money from someone else after this patch, I'll be cancelling all of them if it's as bad as it's supposed to be for the combat medic.
Nice Job Kavedawg, your making alot of people happy, too bad none of them ar combat medics...
Kavedawg, I apologize if all my frustration is directed at you. Zarlor now gets alot of it too![]()
Brook...
Tell you what, Silverchair, why don't you go ahead and direct it all at me. I brought this up way back before Kave was even chosen as a Corre. ANd, as I keep mentioning, I brought it up on these very boards. A few folks jumped in with why they felt it was a good.bad or indifferent idea and all of that got passed along to Mr. Ben Hanson. Too bad you weren't posting in the threads and making your voice heard then.
So, have you gotten onto TC and tried this out yet? I'd sure be interested in the experiences of those who ahve actually seen this in action. So far Kavedawg is the only one I've seen for certain and it doesn't seem as bad as some folks seem to want to make it out to be.
