Exactly, it will only help healers to get CM. So it seems to me that the Combat XP for healing is there for CMs. The post I responded to seemed to imply that since healers don't get Combat XP that somehow these areguments were all irrelavent. When it seems to me that it pretty soon will become relavent.

I see the problem. Misread on my part.

Now where is that branch in the CM tree that runs on Combat exp? Right, its not there... end of discussion."

Since healers will be getting Combat XP to get to CM it did seem relavent. However I see here that you meant that Combat XP is not used for improving any of the skills directly in the CM line (only that it was needed to get CM in the first place, which still makes it relavant, IMHO).

Then again those DoTs sure look kinda like grenades to me, and Healing XP seems less relavent to that ability to me.

basicly what the healing exp bonus is supposed to do is:

- help those going for CM go up that ranged support line without requiring to get novice elite fighter

- give a basis on which faction points are awarded to medics who heal in a battle that will yield faction points on success

so it's not a pure CM thing, in the long run, Combat Exp will mean jack..

Jatr, i think we are already beating on a dead horse in this thread but i need to point out that your RL comparision does miss out what 2 titles explain best: Toxicologist and Chemical Warfare Expert.

I currently don't care about any defensive skills granted or not, because all of them are broken anyways.

Poisons and Diseases in their current form are designed for a combat that takes a few minutes not the 1-shot-kill first-hit-wins thing they dare calling PvP right now, not to mention the sit-down-while-your-3-Rancors-sweep-the-floor thing. This game right now is a mixture of an Arcade Shooter and Pokemon in Space.

> ranged support is the only line i can think of that takes combat xp not weapon xp.

Wrong, all elite marksman professions have it as requirement.

--------------------
now just because we in the process of getting ranged support, we just happened to also make enuff for a weapon skill doesnt mean that we have to get one...
in fact i could get ranged support itout it by constantly switch weapons and spreading out my weapons xp
--------------------

See that't where you are wrong (standard disclamer: unless you are using grenades )

Math:
You need 300+2250+6000+22000 = 30550 combat exp.
That equals to 305,500 weapon exp (combat = weapon/10)
Specialist in one weapon requires 70000 + 15000 + 5000 + 1000 = 91000 weapon exp.
Now note that even if you get ALL 3 weapon skills to specialist level you will STILL not have enough exp to qualify for specialst ranged combat support.
Note also that by going just one branch you have enough exp to qualify for novice elite for that weapon.

My question is: what did you do with 300,000 weapon exp that you got while getting ranged support ? If you never raised your weapon skill (so you essentialy burned it) or if you gave it up - that means you gave up some part of COMBAT in combat medic.

> if CM were meant to need a weapon skill dont you think they would have made the entire marksman tree a requirement

Wrong logic here, because we don't need ALL 3 weapons - which is what marksman requirement equates to - we just need one weapon to pick.

I have pistol specialist...i bleed for far more damage and more consistantly then I do with Dots. Now for some reason was thinking since i had to master medic and then get ranged medic not to mention train in an advanced profession that maybe Dots would be more effective than a bleed which i used 14 points to get...

but i guess that wouldnt make any sense now would it? after all 14 points in the pistol tree should always outclass a a advanced profession...sorry i was wrong I take it back..it makes total sense now!!!

What was i thinking...

Except that in the new patch you get Combat XP for healing people who kill things, so you can make Combat Medic without ever earning a single point of weapon XP. I guess I'm not sure what you're saying. Are you saying that CM's shouldn't get any weapon special moves because they can always take Marksman or weapon specialist skills to get those? Isn't that like saying that CM's don't need healing abilities because they can always take Doctor to get those? The issue is whether CM abilities are commensurate with the skill points required to get them and whether combat support abilities belong in the CM profession.

That's a very good argument (in fact the one all CMs myself including agree with, and the one that made top 5 issues) to make poisons more powerfull.

I don't see how it is relevant to my point that part of the COMBAT in COMBAT medic comes from being specialist (or better) with weapon.

I am pretty sure the reason for it is NOT to make people get to CM faster, it's because division of profit (for example faction points) is based on combat exp, which affects all medics (note that doctors get the same change).

I am saying that weapon specialist skill is implied requirement.
It's implied because you MUST accumulate enough combat exp and the only way to do it at the moment is using weapons, and the reason we do NOT have "Marksman" as requirement (BTW originally it was) is so we get to choise what weapon to specialize in after that.

So you're saying that it only awards the combat xp so it can compute the faction points? That seems a little far-fetched to me, I would think they could compute the faction points without actually awarding the combat xp (they could "pretend" to award the points for the purposes of the computation). And that's assuming that faction points are based on combat xp, not damage done like everything else. I'm pretty sure this is a direct response to Medics who complained that they couldn't reach Combat Medic by doing what they were supposed to be doing, i.e. healing. BTW, in my testing on Test Center I never verified that healing awards faction points now since there aren't many Rebels and Imperials on TC, I was only able to verify that it awards you about 10% of the combat xp that the people you heal earn.

You're correct that Master Marksman used to be a requirement for Combat Medic, but assuming that the devs intend weapon specialist to be an "implied" requirement for CM, how is that an argument against including some combat support abilities in the CM tree? In fact, it would seem to strengthen the argument for adding some new specials to the CM tree because combat support specials are clearly an "appropriate" thing for CM's to have.

DISCLAIMER: I'm actually undecided on whether CM needs more combat support abilities. I'd like to see how the AoE, poison effectiveness, and suppression fire fixes in the patch work out first.

Combat exp is based on exp which in turn is based on several variables (including but not limited to damage done).
It's logical to award FP based on combat exp (since it's common, shared and already calculated). Of course it's my theory.

I'm pretty sure this is a direct response to Medics who complained that they couldn't reach Combat Medic by doing what they were supposed to be doing, i.e. healing.

I am merely pointing out that part of COMBAT in CM comes from having high weapon spec, which some people say is not required - and I am showing that in fact it is required and provided by game mechanics.

And I would like to sign your DISCLAIMER

I never said CM were supposed to be non-combatants, i said we are not straightfighters, we are support. We heal, we support with fire/dots, we heal. Docs are more heal, run, heal, run, revive.

Right now a doc can invest same 24we invest into randed support into a weapon skill and do what a CM does except more effectively...BLEED >>>> DOT....

Jatr says:

I'll try a real life comparison..

Imagine a field medic in the army. He signs up for the army, he goes through basic training and boot camp(ranged support). He then gets specialized training in the medical field.(master medic)

Now he's sent out in battle, and goes with the rest of the squad. He acts like a normal soldier until someone goes down hurt. He then does what he can to stop the bleeding, get the person healed, bandaged.. etc.

LOL hard to use a realism argument in a MMORPG based in space but ok...make the game real..u die ur dead reroll a character...lol...u want reality? Pets cant be deathblowed? lol my dog when i was 5 got hit by a car...i loved that dog...i fed that dog and taught it tricks...it got hit by a car...thats one hell of a death blow..so if u want to apply realism apply it everywhere...plenty of stuff in this game thats not realistic...

Jatr says:

Thats what a combat medic is. Not a rambo with a stimpack.

The ranged support tree makes sure we're able to fight with a weapon. Sense it doesnt require us to chose between pistole/carbine/rifle we can do as we please there. We're forced touse a weapon to get that ranged exp.

Now if you delete those skills afterwards, thats your own fault. I would rather keep the choice of weapon open than make it simple for stupid players and force us on a particular weapon.

Once dots are fixed, we get that added as a good type of offensive support. So we'll have our great healing in-battle, and good offensivesupport in battle.

Ranged support gives use what?! tumble to standing/prone/kneeling...nice abilities make u a bit harder to heal...but u ant special...but u can heal..so this is a good ability...

what else... warning shot and threating shot...works on monsters not on NPCs and PCs....so basically useless

suppressionshot....would be great if i worked...

no one is asking for rambo skills. My suggestions my other thread in no way presents the CM with anything but support moves...they are non lethal moves that supports you grps and keeps them alive...

we cant do most of those things u talk about because 1/2 the time in PvP u are on ur butt prone from a knockdown...

in a duel between a nay seal and a medic, hands down the seal should win...but if the medic threw sarin at him and ran before the seal could kill him...the medic wins...no?!

no reason to say that as a CM if i used my skillsto my best abilities I.E. using non LOS dots to poison some1, that i shouldnt be able to kill anyone in the game...

if i play the game using my best abilities will neutralizing my opponents strength there is no reason to believe a medic couldnt defeat a seal or a BH or anyone for that matter...except maybe a pistoleer doc that cures poisons and then chases me down to kill me

Yesterday on Chilastra I purchased fungus and Dantooine berries (surprisingly both in Bestine) and Lokian Weat (on Lok )
There were more fungus there, in stack of 500 for 1200 a stack (less then 3c)

Do you click "next page" on those galaxy-wide searches to see if there is may be more items ?

Geeze, you didnt read my post, i said i wasnt aruging with you. I was explaing stuff to others. Others as in notyou, you dont need toreply after every post i make saying the same things, i read your others, i understand what your saying, move on, im not talking about the same things you are.

And making a realistic comparison to explain something in-game is perfectly fine. It was a comparison to help others unstand something. Really thats a very lame comment to use, its like your just picking on stuff to disagree with just for the sake of bothering me.

If you wanna argue with every post I make go ahead, but I hate forum battles. Heck i even said I agree with you on some things, and you still had to post against it.
