Thread: Help Save Riverbend, Naboo!
Danielli wrote:Kaliban, what exactly is your problem? If this doesn't affect you why are you even talking about it. Riverbend has been around a long time. The location and layout were carefully chosen and designed by Zafo and a few others. Now a half-hearted attempt to thwart some irresponsible players is threatening to shred almost 2 years of work.If this doesn't affect you, please keep your opinions to yourself. The attempt to save Riverbend or any other cities affected by the change isn't interfering with your gameplay at all, so please stop trying to interfere with those cities.
I think the effects of the changed imprint are stylized rather than game-breaking. You won't be able to make dense housing blocks anymore. You can still do streets and other such things. That's why I suggested that people offer alternatives. Like what Bal Rozguul suggested in the City and Housing forum about altering the imprint so that it added one extra line instead of the two extra lines we currently have. This particular change isn't going to bring quite as much of an outcry like the one day crafting change, so you'll need to be able to offer easy to code or reasonable alternatives. SOMETHING needs to be done to fix that particular wall exploit, you need to compromise or think up something really creative.

Thalnax, Naboo has the same problems. We have 175 citizens and that number can only go down now that this patch is in. Our city plan is extremely complex and we are the only city on Starsider which actually looks like a real city.
We have planned since the game began, now it is allruined. You cannot just jump in and make such a drastic change 2 years in and expect it to work.
Actually, yes they can. Ever hear of the Combat Upgrade?

If you make all the work of those veteran players worth nothing, then eventually they quit putting in the work and hit the Cancel button ... that can't really be your goal, can it?
/sigh
You'd think after two years, someone would come up with something original to threaten with...

be civil. not everyone will agree with everyone else, so just keep it to yourself if you don't have something nice and/or constructive to say. this isn't a petition (and we all know what happens to petitions), so just give a constructive comment if you agree with it. if you don't, that's fine too... but constructive is key.
now, I'll say what I (think I) told Sighryn in game:
this is a valid concern and should be looked into, but while it's a politician issue with mayors and city layouts it's also (if not more) of a core systems issue with house footprint. what does this mean? go bring it up to kstarfire as well.
I have mentioned it to him myself, and we're more concerned about the footprint being much larger if it's truely 5x6 (I haven't verified it... could someone verify this?) against the generic/corellian medium houses at 3x4, and is now larger than a medium tatooine's 5x5.

lol, that's not a threat, that's a recognition of reality ... which yes, can be a novel concept at some levels of management, obviously. They lost tens of thousands of veterans this year, people who very much wanted to enjoy this game for a long time. I came back for a few months, but yes, yesterday I got the Cancel ball rolling again because the last couple Publishes and the current Test Center release tell me that this team still just doesn't have their act together and there's no evidence that they will before the New Year, so I might as well go back to checking out some alternatives.
It's not a threat when an appreciable percentage of your customer base does it, it's called history. You vote with your dollars, and it is quite obviously the only vote that matters in the slightest to the guys wearing the suits.

This has really been a major failure in project philosophy at SWG for a long time. In an MMORPG, you'd think you would want to do everything possible to reward the commitment of time, thought and effort by veteran players who pay for years of subscription time ... yet time and again, changes are thrown in that invalidate that work and literally punish thoughtful players for taking the time to do something besides run around and shoot things.
Pay attention, devs ... FPS's are a dime a dozen and the kiddies will always abandon you at the drop of a hat for the latest & greatest place to blow things up. MMORPG's are supposed to be about building long-term communities, and paying lip service to this idea while whacking the people who actually practice it upside the head with poorly considered changes is *not* the way professionals do things.
If you make all the work of those veteran players worth nothing, then eventually they quit putting in the work and hit the Cancel button ... that can't really be your goal, can it?
Hi Khristen,
Any word about this issue?
