Thread: why do buildings not have windows?

And by fixed, I mean unfixed. Just make the base of them non-clipping.
Instead, almost every Naboo player city is ruined with big ugly gaps
that will worsen when the infamous Character Wipe(tm) emerges from vaporwareland
along with the smuggler revamp, smuggler BH missions, ranger revamp, and Star Destroyer(tm) mission.

I would kill for houses like this.
If its going to take that much time and effort, you might as well put in some houses withnew floorplans and such.
After the Smuggler revamp of coarse =P
Of course
Oh god.
I hope that doesn't mean "never".
I really like the idea of houses with windows that can see out alot.
Is fixing that annoying token respec pop-up window on any of your lists?

This is really what it comes down to. Though I do keep a "wishlist" of items from the boards that I torture the team with from time to time

TH...any chance we can get LESS actual player housing and get instanced player housing in the NPC cities? This would = less lag in the wild.
I think all those fake buildings in the npc cities would be nicely suited for this...basically you click the door to the front of the building and one of two things would happen.
you would pick a floor to visit and then on that floor you can go from door to door much like a hotel works in RL or a mall in RL... (this limits how many people can live in a building though)
or you would click the door and you would see a menu...this menu would show you all your shops/living spaces in the building...it would also show you public rooms/shops and you could pick which one to enter. There could be a description field too so you could promote your shop.
Just an idea...what do you think?
Two great suggestions have come out of this thread.
1. Player houses with one-way windows based on the idea of the vista-like views from POB ships.
2. Instanced player rooms in existing NPCs cities. I think the idea of player "hotels" was floated around before, but it definitely could use a revisit.
As I read through this thread, I noticed a few people reminding us that the Core Systems are not fully finished, and that bugs still exist. Agree 100%. But I think it's not impossible for them to use some of their resources to implement these ideas. I'm thinking of the boost architects would receive from the first idea. Not to mention, it would be fun!

LOL, are you serious TH? Why can't all houses, that use one model not be changed to have windows in one shot? Why spend all that time making two types of houses. I am sure90% of the players will like the change.

Hypothetically speaking, Each and every house model would have to be re-worked. This could potentially take artists weeks or months. Then, only newly crafted houses would have the feature (though personally I think thats a good thing for architects).
Anyone notice that there is a Tatooine house (large?)with a window on the second floor that looks on to the show room floor. Thats kind of cool.
Also there is an option that the windows only looks out, since all that stuf shows up on our radars and we can target things, that might be an option. Kind of like those dark office windows you can look out, during the day and see things, but no one can see in.
or just make a different style

Programmers would have to code a brand new way for the system to know the difference between old houses and new houses. This would have to be done for all of the base code and all of the database code. It would have to know the difference on loading the house and all of the existing schematics, all of the components and anything that may nothave come to mind while I was making this post.
Once that was done, the designerswould have to update all of the crafting schematics in code. They would have to account for both types of houses, all of the components, all of theconnections to player cities, merchant skills, etc.
That would take a designer a few weeks (even more if there were any surprises). Once all the art and design was finished, it would have to be internally and externally tested. The external tests would have to be on a fully loaded server (such as TC-Bria or TC-Corbantis).
