Thread: WHY NOT LIVE IN LARGE NPC CITIES

this is basically the system they use in EQ2 - it's instanced, so the minute you open the door you're loaded into a whole new game area, so the arguments about lag, etc, are moot points as you won't be in the same memory space as the rest of the players who are on the streets of the town.

i'm a PC mayor and i love our town to death, single best thing in the game, IMO and i'd be lost without it - HOWEVER - i could easily have a mansion in the Lokian desert, and then a townhouse in Modenia

as another player said, i think we're more likely to see this in SWG2 than this game.

Well, this would be great if they made apartments, if anyone here has played Anarchy Online, they already have apartments there... would be awesome to have a system like on KOTOR on Taris and the apartments there....

oH please do NOT add to anymore city lag. Instead...make one of the hotels into a homeless shelter. Then you could have your city life and view.

Gloria, Lowca: Wanderhome & Test Center
9 accounts, 18 characters, ok this is a tad nutso
Lowca, LIBERTYLAND PARK on Rori, our fun city geared to role playing fun
take the shuttle, racetrack, Wildlife museum, Romance Inn, pub, cafe,
Droid Factory, Whacky Hospital...much more
Come visit, bring friends and roleplay. Pull up your overhead map, each vendor marks a site for adventure and fun.

imagine the retail market value of an house in a major city lol OMG and how do you decide who lives there initially? all it would course is trouble and arguements.

Have NPC City houses unable to place vendors to solve that.

I thought it would be cool for a married couple to take a story based quest they have to complete togetherwho get the keys to an NPC house as the final completed reward to be a cool way of giving out these properties.

i agree they can't pull it off in this game, but what i want to see if some kind of system that allows player vendors in a city. like master merchants can have 1 vendor in a city, in a designated area for player vendors, like a market or something. That is really how you will bring npc cities back into the game, through my eyes.

I think this is a great idea.

I'd rather see them just have a terminal desk outfront of a big building, no lobby or anything like that. You go up say you want to go up to your room and pow you get transported there. It will have a window that you can see out of and should have the 100 item limit that small houses do. Treat it just like the Sorosub Yacht, no one can see you but you can see out. That way it shouldn't lag the system.

(All the aparptments would basically be instanced. There would be no static place that exists in the game. You'd just go into the building and it'd be your apartment)

I think it would be very very cool to sell real apartments in certain cites that are physical locations, a very limited amount that have weekly rent that can be bid upon. So if all the apartments are rented for a week, the occupants would have to outbid other players to keep the apartment next week.

I've been asking for this for sometime, and i beleive there going to have to do it. Whether they take fourteen years to see the true imiediete value of this idea, or next months tackle, its an idea that makes the most sense. And i don't even know why it wasnt there from day one.

Its true it takes more programming effort to work on the design structure of more elevator levels and lobbies, and player livable buildings in npc cities (theyu much more enjoy the luxury of taking the slacker route and designing a static 3 dimensional building plot, covering it in a naboo texture and calling it a hollow building..

Come on.. It would make the game amazing, and for the gamer who wants a more secluded life, then retreat to the wilderness or some outskirt player city..

First loading screen takes you into the ground floor, you converse with the receptionist npc and get presented with a window containing a list of all the apartments you have been given entry/admin rights for. You select the one you want and you are loaded into the lift that leads into the instanced apartment.

You go back into the lift and "use" the lift button and get another window popping up with the same list of apartments incase you want to go to another persons apartment, or you press a different button to return to the ground floor.

Who owns which apartment won't really be an issue as they wouldn't have a physical position in the main game world.

I suggested instanced apartments (and factories) in another thread as well. This is the way EQ2 is setup, and it works very nicely. The instances will not add to city lag because they are not part of the actual city zone. You could have several floorplans that roughly correspond to existing house sizes and even have to give ancrafted deed (to keep architects in the loop) to the NPC in the lobby to purchase your house instance. The instance could count against your lots as normal. Instanced factories in an industrial zone (PC or NPC city) would work in a similar way. Deposit a deed and gain access to a hopper... This would tremendously reduce clutter in and around player cities and reduce lag overall. I'd much rather run to a toon of a wearables factory in the middle of a city and be able to open all of my hoppers at once than have to dodge aggro flitting from factroy to factory on the outskirts of my player city.

actually they just would have to make a lot of changes, you don't have to have a load screen though.

It'd be just like regular houses. When you see it on the outside, you don't load the interior objects. When you go inside, they are loaded.

Then you should be able to choose the floors on the elevator.

The units inside the skyscrapers and apartment buildings would be perma-private and only those who have admin permissions and owners can enter their units.

I even drew up a picture of a skyscraper and thought that the sizes should go from studio size up to penthouse size (larger than a large house).

Here is how the floors will be organized:

Penthouse

Large Unit

Medium Unit

Small Unit

Studio

The studio would be about the size of the smallest naboo house.

The NPC and Player cities should be able to expand for land per square meter (since a meter is a lot larger than a foot) for a certain preset sum.

The NPC cities should also have zoning plots. And should also be able to place "streets" (like for tatooine).

People would be able to place their homes on those zones, provided they are on the size and use provided (like residential-small could only hold small houses)

Notonly that, but they can also add more skyscrapers to their skyline, like in Cnet and Tyrena.

Player Cities and Houses should be restricted to certain areas. Basically they shouldn't be allowed to be placed near race tracks, landmarks (pois) or other cities.

The closest you should be able to place a city/house is 1km from the race track (including the actual route) and the POI.

Additionally, Player Cities should be allowed to place down walls that are deletable and can be rebuilt in a fasion similar to AOE, AOK, EE, AOM, etc...

Owners of houses should also be able to have the option of placing a fence around their house. As long as it's within something like 5m around the house.

Does anyone else agree with this idea?

Hypothetically, we could be paying rent for such buildings, and that the credits made in these apartment conplexes could be poared right back into the game in by pooling and adding to a fund that such city politicians could deal with to .. I actually dont know if I'd like having npc major cities with player politicians..

I take that back. I imagine it would be the ultimate ego-trip, hi my name is BloodKILLERUBER Poopsin, I am the regional governor of coronet, bow down to me and kiss me feet.

And if you cross my path, I'll see to it that my thugs will trash your apartment, or have it conveniantly.. forclosed.. mwahahahah!
