We have all these tall buildings, why not have a lobby, a la hotels, and have the elevator be able to take you to any 'unit' you are on admin for? You could even prolly use the same small house layout and maybe charge more for upkeep. In future maybe give a view. I think it would be cool to live in a skyscraper.

I love the idea. Many a night has been spent with nothing to do, thinking about how cool it would be to walk along the catwalks of Coruscant, and even rent an apartment out of the Skyhooks.
But as much fun as it would be, I doubt it's technically realistic at this time. For that kind of magnitude the dev's would have to incorperate a loading screen when leaving or changing buildings, look go onto a padio, or even look out a window. And what fun would it be to live in a skyscraper if you couldn't walk out onto your padio whenever you want, or look out a window?
Again, love the idea, I wish it were possible, but I don't think it would be possible until SWG III: Let's Give it Another Shot (For Money's Sake) comes out.
[That last bit was in no way aimed as a low shot to the Devs or LucasArts, I just know how corperations work, and we all know, if there's enough money in it, they'll make anything a sequal, instead of upgrading what they've already got]

Yes I like this idea & I think it could also be done.
When they introduced housing in Dark Ages of Camelot a few years back they actually added a new zone for all the housing, houses could only be placed in this zone not anywhere on the planet like we can in SWG.
As Skyscrapers are already built and you would be just renting an appartment within one I'd say it would be acceptable that you had to actually zone/load into the building. Once inside you could pay your rent at reception, visit the bar or take a lift up to your appartment etc.
This way you could have literally hundreds of people living within an NPC city without particularly adding any extra load on the server that is dealing with the city itself.
Ok you wouldn't be able to look out of your window and watch the Coronet spam for example but I could see it working & being a lot of fun. I for one would be getting myself an appartment straight away

imagine the retail market value of an house in a major city lol OMG and how do you decide who lives there initially? all it would course is trouble and arguements.
Just go into whatever house you like in an NPC city and claim it as your own, just make sure you like the decor lol and use the local bank for storage.

First loading screen takes you into the ground floor, you converse with the receptionist npc and get presented with a window containing a list of all the apartments you have been given entry/admin rights for. You select the one you want and you are loaded into the lift that leads into the instanced apartment.
You go back into the lift and "use" the lift button and get another window popping up with the same list of apartments incase you want to go to another persons apartment, or you press a different button to return to the ground floor.
Who owns which apartment won't really be an issue as they wouldn't have a physical position in the main game world.

I don't think it would take a whole new loading screen. It would take a lot of time to design and make the inside functional, I know in mxo every appartment is open so it could be done just a lot of work probably. It would def help with getting even more into the sw environment, imagine looking out of your appartment and seeing the cornet starport crowded with people. It would def be great

1.) Too much resources to make it happen
2.) Lag Hell would be summoned if this happened.

NPC cities would get over crowded. Just imagine the lag in CNET. It would be a nightmare. LOL

To combat the lag problem i'd recommend not letting people live in the big cities like Theed and CNet. Put them in the smaller cities like Doaba Guerfel, Keren, Nashal and so forth. Bring life back in to the lesser used cities instead of continuing to crowd out the Mega cities.

Yes! Everyone has been suggesting this, and I continue to stand behind it, supporting it.
This would be a very big draw to NPC cities, devs.

I agree with that 100%. Put them in smaller NPC cities. Actually paying rent to live some where, what an idea. So many ideas about cities have been mentioned in the past. I agree they need to change player cities. Give more of a variety, like options to add appartments and maybe even store front buildings. There is so much more that can be done to make player cities like NPC but livable. Oh well.

Seriously, make the apartment complexes like the apartments on Taris in KOTOR. Self-contained things with nothing actually outside it except a background that looks out ona partially 2-D Coronet (with the sky synchronized for time-of-day lighting), and have the interior load only the level you're on. Voila, You've got an apartment complex without altering anything in the main Coronet, except adding a ground floor w/the elevator and receptionist to the buildings (to give it that whole "one big continuous world" feeling). This'd take maybe one mega-publish, tops. Maybe included in the next expansion. And then you've restored more Star Wars feel to the game!
