Can some please tell me why the devs keep making these retarded decisions? Are these guys really this stupid? When is SOE going to fire some of these clearly less bright people?

It's all business--SOE figures if people are going to run off and start trying other games like WOW, then by maintaining their assets while they're doing this will provide more incentive for them to come back then if it all went poof.

The real solution is to allow mayors to condemn houses. This would send an email to the player that they have 3 weeks or so to move their house. If you don't want to be bound by this rule, don't place a house w/ in a city.

This is obviously a big issue with many players and should really be brought to the attention of the devs. They stated repeatedly that they want to know what we think needs to be changed and things like this is exactly what I think they were talking about: small changes to make the game better.

Also with pub 12.1 came a change to make the politican profession much more common, which makes me think they actually do want more player cities or more living player cities. In that light, I would think the devs would not be against a change of mayor rights so that they can for example purge houses from players that are:
1: citizens of their city
2: have been warned by the mayor at least 2 weeks ago

We don't want mayors to run around razing and pillaging dozens of houses each day but, if someone leaves the house (and the game) unattended for 2 weeks or 1 month if you like, AND is a citizen of a player citym then his house can be purged.

Bottomline: Make yourselves heard, write the devs, post topics like this or email the devs who work on that part of the game with general ideas (don't go too much into detail)

SOE have done a character purge on other games, they'll do it here soon enough.

The point where databasesare danger of becoming unstable due to excessive left over structures and characters is the point where they will do it.

Right now they're leaving a door open for players to be able to come back without having lost all their stuff. The idea of shifting that stuff to storage is quite a nice one, but requires new database tables and a far bigger software fix than the solution they've gone for now.

I guess this proves that Sony will never ever delete characters after 6 months like they said.

You´r suggestion is incomplete.

Some of us are decorators and just saving our items is a stupid idea compared to also saving the positions of our items.

I support this new addition highly.

For politicians..

Well, that´s just tough.

I am a deputy mayor myself and its sort of a hard thing to say, but just because we are the heads of the city doesnt mean we get to decide everything.

We accepted the people in.. Then we accepted them. If we could be able to remove their houses again, it would not be fair towards them.

Our only chance is to accept the right people and to be careful with who gets in (same thing) but also to make sure our city and server is attractive so that people dont leave for another. But also we have to send out information to players in the city, upon joining. That there are a few things they have to agree on.

Maybe a good idea would be for the politician to be able to give each new player some sort of text that they would have to sign their name on.

And the different text pieces (fx: 1: You must agree that we can remove your house if we believe you are inactive). Those would be premade and options for the politician. Those would be saved in some sort of datapad item that politicians got when they got novice.

Otherwise we are facing some difficult ethics here.

I am a decorator.. one of the best on Bloodfin. I have been on Garva's Homeshow Twice and I ABSOLUTELY HATE THIS!!

Im a Master Architect.. and they've given us the raw deal again. Houses never disappear, harvestors never disappear, you now own them forever! Do you know what deeds are gonna cost in the near future if noone needs to ever buy another house or harvestor?

Furniture already lasts forever, now there's no penalty at all to those players who leave for extended perods or are just too cheap to pay maint on their structures... the only penalty is those of us loyal and avid players who have to continually deal with these 'condemned' structures.

The Galaxy will be covered in condemned buildings.

We have 2 houses in our town we have been waiting patiently for 2 weeks to go poof so we can do some Urban renewal, we even had a CSR come out and look at them and he said "They will poof on their own in a week or 2, you just have to wait".. well guess what, they are still there.. and now they will never poof!

Oh and not to mention those structures left behind by players who have transferred their toons to other servers. We have a couple in our town. They will sit there "Condemned" for evermore!

Oh and btw, I dont know of anyone who left the game because their City wasn't pleasurable enough to keep playing. That's the LAST reason people leave the game.

It's pretty simple, you gonna stop playing for an indefinate period of time then pull down your houses, put your items in the bank, and you can come back months later and still have all your stuff. Why should your houses, miners and factories be cluttering up the server? Taking up valuable realestate that those of us who are still paying to play can utilize? Why is SOE catering to those who AREN'T paying, when they should be working for those of us who ARE. ???

My god, some planets are so cluttered with buildings and cities it's a freaking obsticle race to just get from one place to another! Allowing all these condemmed houses to sit there for months and months in the hopes that the owner MIGHT return to the game is stupid! SOE is giving more consideration to the non paying customer than those of us who are still paying.

Yes, I've seen thread after thread of complaints from people who left the game, stopped paying for their accounts, then came back and were screaming and yelling cause their items on vendors poofed, or their houses poofed, all I can say to that is, it's YOUR FAULT! Take care of business before you cancel your account, pull down your houses, bank your stuff, donate what's left over to your guild, whatever, but don't leave houses cluttering up in areas that could be used by those of us paying to play still.

Yes, I am mayor of the city, and there are several houses in my city that belong to people who left the game, and we haven't heard from them, or even have a clue if they ever plan to return. We have been anxiously waiting for them to finally poof so that those of us who ARE still here paying to play, can place our houses within the city limit's.

Good lord SOE why aren't you trying to REDUCE all the inactive houses, miners, vendors, and factories? Give us a few more months and our planets will be so congested with housing you wont be able to find a place to place miners and such. All you are doing here is INCREASING the number of inactive houses and miners cluttering the planets, how good is that for gameplay?

This idea you guys came up with is stupid, no matter how you look at it. You listened to all the cry babies who lost stuff cause they left the game for 6 months and didn't take care of things before they left, without giving any thought to the consequences of what this will do to our current cities, not to mention the clutter and lag that will be created by hundreds of condemmed houses and other structures on our planets.

You think giving us Politicians ourskill points back will make us happy and we will overlook this? No way.

Sorry SOE, this is one dumb idea, to cater to the inactive NON PAYING customer over and above those PAYING customers is WRONG!

That's how I feel....

well i think this is one huge example to say that the either the Dev's or marketing or someone doesn't have any balls.

The ability to condem a structure should be a mayor ability.

It should make a structure "unuseable"

Harvesters won't harvest

factories won't build.

and houses cannot have items dropped in them, you cannot craft heal or otherwise use a home. you can only remove items. After the maintenance runs out. bye bye.

Y'all are missing a very, very important point here.

Structures take up space, yes. Having structures not decay takes up increasingly more space, yes.

This means that space becomes more and more limited, correct?

And therefore, more and more valuable.

And what do we do with valuable things? We charge money for them.

As they become more valuable, we charge more money.

What's to stop people from just building outside city limits? Well now. That's a problem of making city space more valuable than wilderness space. If you can make this happen, you can make a tidy sum.

It's not just property tax. No, politicians should be landlords as well.

I feel for ya, but welcome to the R/L world of city management, where personal property rights trump the city.

Ever seen a POS house and wonder why its still there? Its because the law doesnt allow for the property to be seized unless its in arrears on property taxes.

As long as someone pays the taxes, the place can be a rathole for a LONG time (until someone burns it down for insurance money)

Bout all you can do is make sure new citizens place buildings according to your city plan (you have a plan right? RIGHT?), and only allow people who will enforce the city plan to be militia members. As Mayor you need to stay in touch with your citizens and encourage them not to abandon buildings or move buildings that dont belong.

I think most of you would be pissed off if you say got sent away on extended military duty, and all you built just went POOF because you handnt logged on on for 2 months. Also SOE is being smart for the time being in that the expect a lot of people to return to SWG and they want to make sure they have a chance to preserve the stuff and keep them as active subscribers (I mean cmon how would you feel about starting over from ground zero having to buy all new houses at 100k a crack?)

My thought is prevention is worth far more than cures. Its up to Mayors and their militia to make sure people dont stick houses wherever they feel like and be willing to tell their citizens, NO. (you realize that the unwanted, abandoned house in the bad location was allowed to be built by someone with the power to make sure it didnt get built there in the first place?)
