Tell me if I'm misunderstanding this...
All maintenance fees will automatically attempt to deduct from Bank accounts after the maintenance pool has been depleted. Once a structure reaches 0 hitpoints, it will flag itself as condemned instead of deleting itself. Condemned houses are not enterable, and all other structures are not usable. To uncondemn a house, simply enter it with enough money in the bank to pay the repair cost. To uncondemn all other structures, use them with enough money in the bank to pay the costs.
Am I to understand that now someone can leave the game, and their houses will forever stay on the server? Shouldn't we be trying to eliminate all the excesss housing and such that is left behind when someone quits the game and moves on?
As a mayor of a city, I look forward to seeing inactive houses go poof so that I can let other's place new houses in their place, we only have so much room in our city limits and to keep the area plugged with inactive condemmed house isjust stupid.
Please tell me this isn't how this is gonna work, I really hope I'm misunderstanding this....

This is how it works. If the house reaches 0% then the house will start grabbing cash from the player's bank. Once his bank credits is gone the house is then destroyed along with everything inside. To enter the house you need to have aleast some credits to repair it. If a player leaves just wait until the house eats everything cent he has.

not when you don t have money in the bank, the house WILL NOT be destroyed
you just can t enter it till you have money on bank again
so as mayor i say it s another knife in our backs. i ve 2 houses in my city atm that screw up the layout
the owners left the game or at least our server about 3 months ago
so we are screwed, with no chance to get rid of them anymore
and plz dont tell me now the fairy tales of the great character purge, cause it won t happen

On a single house, 100k could last months, 1 million could last years ... I think it's a problem. Don't say that they'll be drawn down by 10 lots, if they make use of those lots they're probably selling something and will have inventory in vendors. You can't count on the merchant character not being the owner ... it might be the case, but it might not (assuming alts).

I agree, this wasreally a poordecision. The only reasons I can understand why they did this is 1) Give people who leftSWG a chance to come back at a later time and not have to worry that their home and all of the items in it are gone. (basically an incentive to come back to SWG after leaving. "Hey look we did not delete your stuff" ) OR 2)An opportunity to place another money sink in the game to further "balance" the economy. From what I can tell this change is an extra burden on the players especially anyone who is responsible for running acity. I wonder if the Politician Correspondent was aware of this change and supportedit?

There is no positive side of this that a simple.
"Hey idiot your (house, factory, harvestor) is low on Maintenance" Reminder E-Mail couldnt resolve.
I mean lets face it, the only people this benefits is the person who through no fault of their own cannot play for an extended period of time. Upon their resumption of play they found their house and all items gone.
A far simpler solution would to be simply let the house "poof" then put all the items in it in a storage that is attached to the character. When they resume their character they simply acquire a new house (Hardly a hard thing to do) then can move in all of their items from the storage area.
Peopleshould actually have to take some responsibility for their own structures upkeep.

With the upcoming character purge there will be more houses gone than most mayors wish. I see a lot of shuttleports disappearing then. If this is done regulary, I don't see that much of an issue here.

the purge is just a fairytale, not more
and even it might happen in half a year or so (for sure not before CU and GCW revamp)
we need to get rid of the houses now
and anyway, players who left for another server wont be affected, nor people who use from time to time the free 7-10 day trials.
So telling people to wait for purge is no sollution, it s just a try to buy time

Gooney.
You´r suggestion is incomplete.
Some of us are decorators and just saving our items is a stupid idea compared to also saving the positions of our items.
I support this new addition highly.
For politicians..
Well, that´s just tough.
I am a deputy mayor myself and its sort of a hard thing to say, but just because we are the heads of the city doesnt mean we get to decide everything.
We accepted the people in.. Then we accepted them. If we could be able to remove their houses again, it would not be fair towards them.
Our only chance is to accept the right people and to be careful with who gets in (same thing) but also to make sure our city and server is attractive so that people dont leave for another. But also we have to send out information to players in the city, upon joining. That there are a few things they have to agree on.
Maybe a good idea would be for the politician to be able to give each new player some sort of text that they would have to sign their name on.
And the different text pieces (fx: 1: You must agree that we can remove your house if we believe you are inactive). Those would be premade and options for the politician. Those would be saved in some sort of datapad item that politicians got when they got novice.
Otherwise we are facing some difficult ethics here.

My arguement against it isn't exactly houses its harvesters now we're going to have hundreds of harvesters sitting idle on good plots of land that could (a) be used for other harvesters or (b) used for any purpose other than none. I agree it saves alot of time but if you as a player decided you need harvesters then you take on the role of maintainer or you hire another player to do so in your absence if the harvester goes boom well that's your own fault personaly I put a weeks maint. onto a havrvester when I place it if I don't get on for what ever reason well that's life - the train driver doesn't wait for you to get ready in the morning because you've over slept or your door won't close ? I do agree harvester maint. should be possible from afar - oh wait it was possible with droids which are now useless.

Haven't they always been useless? They are not adding power, right? But it saves you just from having them destroyed, but they won't harvest any more.

I think this is one of the worst ideas and game addtions done ever. What in God's Earth are the devs thinking? Please remove it. LOL
