Thread: Would this chef/BE arrangement be fair?
"Scorus simply realized that he wants brandy, chefs want his tissues, and how should the two be priced *relative to each other* to make this equitable."
Make...what ....equitable?
OH, you mean equitable in basing your prices on what you *think* all Chefs must be doing? And what about those Chefs who AREN'T selling crates for 500k? Are your suppliments "equitable" for them?
What you are asking is absurd and impossible, both in this game and in the real world. You CANNOT expect to price your BE comps based on what the "community" seems to be charging for the end product. As intelligent as your posts are, I can't believe you don't see this.
What Scorus asked was what we thought, and we gave it to him....so here, I'll give it to you. No, based on my personal pricing model, his suggested trade is not worth it. The way server markets vary, I don't think his question can accurately be answered. What CAN be answered, and what is the real subject of this hijacked post is.... why are BEs afraid to set a price for their goods? Why do you need to know what I'm selling for to determine what your wares are worth?
I categorically disagree with your assumption that they need to be equitable in any sense. That is not how free trade works. Now, if demand dictates that you need to increase the prices of your supplements, go for it. But this "I know how much you are going to sell this for and I want my cut" cr@p is ridiculous.
Be careful how you answer based on what *all Chefs" are doing, it is indeed the weakest part of your argument. What you are suggesting does not work with a Chef who isn't gouging his customers so to speak, as you assume we all must be. Don't forget, these forums are not FILLED with flavor-of-the-month Chefs, who are in it only for the money. Its insulting that you would assume that is the norm.
I am merely responding to you and scorus. I have siad several times that I havea BE friend who is not interested in Chef food and prices my comps based on the quality of resources used (which ironically is how I price my food).

"What I have done with some (BE, Tailor) is bought their schematic AND their resourcesand paid the requested profit. I think it's easier for both of us this way."
How can that be fair, you are going to make FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND CREDITS PER CRATE OMG OMG OMG! Quit screwing you BE/Tailor buddies you animal!

Has anyone checked the armorsmith forum to see if Tailors are asking for crates of composite in trade for cloth?
Completely bogus comparison. Tailors make clothing to sell to the end users. They use these components to do their job. They are unexperimented components that a novice can make as well as a master and cost almost nothing to make, all made from 100%, non-specific, machine harvested materials. Anybody could pick up 0-0-0-0 tailor and make these to their hearts content.
BE's have no end user market for chef tissues. We make them only for chefs and there is an easily calculatable benefit to chefs. They are highly experimented component where both the quality of materials and the skill of the BE is highly relavant.
Thanks Arthur, couldn't put it better myself..

What about the serious part of the message? The tailor thing was a bit sarcastic.
Nobody has talked about the Chefs ability to make 21 use drinks.. this is a bigger reason why the price has gotten so high. Its not all about the additives. Time between purchases has gone way way up. If we sell 21 use drinks and give that part of our profit to BE's.. then we would of been better off before the revamp. I admit.. I said some stupid things.. all because some BE's are trying to dip there hands into something they shouldn't. I've always said.. 25k-50k a crate.. thats fine.. or 50k-100k a schematic.. but to ask any more for a schem that you dont provide resources for is ludicrous. Isn't this what we are trying to accomplish or discuss?
This is a perfect time for those BE's out there to start marketing themselves. Server forum message stating that I'll be in Coronet or some central city for these 2 hours on this day.. bring your resources and I'll make you a schem for 50k. That would rock for both sides. Thoughts?

I guess i don't understand why you say schematics for an item thats worth a million in profit should be sold for 100k. That logic basically implies a product is all about the resources and the schematic makers earned skills aren't worth much.
I wouldn't sell my chef schematics for prices like that. I don't see why any crafter would. In the short term sure they make some quick credits in the long term they cut their own throat.

I am a new novice CHEF. I have other toons who are Master Weaponsmith, Master Doc, and several combat professions. When I was weaponsmith, if a smuggler asked me for a WUK schematic, I never charged. In many cases I would rather just give him the schematic rather than make them myself. Same thing for crafting tools schematics and powerups.
I have always formed alliances with other artisans. For example, I had a Master Artisan, Master Armorsmith, Master Smuggler, and Master Architect in which we all helped each other out. I would provide WUK schematics for the smuggler, the Artisan would provide me with schematics for what I needed, Even the Armorsmith provided me with Armor schematics and free armor. (I helped fund his grind and got materials for him) Anyone in this "circle of friends" would help with anything. The smuggler would slice my weapons for free. He would also slice the armorsmith’s armor for free. In return he got free weapons and armor. Same for the artisan. and architect. If I suddenly needed two heavy gas harvesters, I could get the materials and she would make me a schematic or assemble what I needed for free.
The thing we are forgetting here is supply and demand. If a BE, a Chef and a Tailor cannot find an amiable alliance that is beneficial to everyone, then there will be another BE, Chef, or Tailor who will be happy to oblige. There is no one "RULE" or arrangement that will suit every purpose. The people who try to come up with "standard" for everyone to follow uses the same mentality as a large group of retail chains working together to inflate prices. By trying to force a "standard" on everyone you are attempting to eliminate competition and corner the market.
I just got Novice Chef on Sunday and I have already made an arrangement with a BE and a Tailor. We will all gather our own resources for whatever we want, and we will give each other schematics for what we need. If the tailor wants to make brandy, they can. Same for the BE. And I can make all the foods I want without having to worry about where my advanced components will come from.
I think this is the sort of comradery and interdependencies the Devs intended. It creates a good feeling among all involved and it even allows you to dabble into other professions, without even being in that profession. I think this is a great design. The greedy and the profiteers may not like this, but it’s a free market and I can do whatever I want. That is the beauty of it.
