Thread: Major change to drinks

I think there is a tendency for people to assume that because we make something "simple" like food and drink we have little to no components and have fast factory times...afterall food isnt complex compared to droids or weapons or buildings. Most people have heart failure when I explain the reason Im out of Breath of heaven is because it takes 10 hours to make 1 crate of it and so-and-so came inand bought 5 crates by himself (thats a50hr work week gone to one person)Then you tie that in with peoples perceptions about how much business we do and they really dont understand why we run out of stuff or charge what we do. Ive a customer who insists I should give him a discount on the items I have hard time keeping in stock... I think he thinks the reason I run out of stuff is somehow reflective of something Im doing wrong. Im doubting hes realizing I have 4 factories putting ONE item (fishak) all the time and that people are usually in the shop buying it as im putting it up (Im not telling em).

Its a pretty common misconception that our stuff is simple I think...and frankly IMO, food schems probably should be simpler than very intricate things like droids.

All this talk of money, I must be doing something wrong

I have consistently lower prices than almost all the people that post on these boards, yet sell maybe 10-20k worth a day

If I was selling as much as Saitek, Id definitely buy in containers to save time.

You'd think you would, but in order to make that much money means you are producing at the fastest possible rate, just as an example I am outputtingapproximately50 -60 Angerian Crates everytwo days, and that is Angerian alone ( I also produce things like Ryshcate, Sunburn, Bivoli, and BoH ona regular basis, meaning a factory is almost continually running them or a component of them). All factories runs are done as high as possible, meaning 1000 runs of all components. Those crates maybe last me a couple days, mostare sold before they leave the factory.

Honestly the only reliable person I can count on in this game is myself. I am not saying that I am the least lazy player,or that everyoneelse is lazy, but to makes sure runs get out on time its up to me and in this game I honestly can't find reliable poeple. It will not be possible to find someone to supply me with what I need at a reasonable price and ontime when I need it. Frequently I log on at 9am right before classes just to get factories started. Everything is timed.

Resources for example are something I cannot find someone to reliably provide me with, so I started another account to gather what I need. Its easy to find weaponsmith, and Doctor resources but mine specifically I cannot find regularly.

What saitek said....If I have a factory that isnt running something...Ive beena very naughty girl and ill pay for it by running out of something. Tho, I have to say I sometimes feel more like a mcdonalds than a chef... Mass production..

Saitek and other chefs, I'd like to correct one misconception about droids that you appear to have. We do have renewable products - Bounty Hunter droids. In fact, BHs only buy these by the crate and an average BH will need approximately 15 crates of the seekers and 7 crates of Arakyds to complete the investigation tree (assuming no GCW base terminal slicing or Jedi killing). Now I am located on the biggest of all the servers (Bria) and have been a long established DE so it may skew my perceptions somewhat compared to Sly and other DEs. To give you a rough idea to compare against your own chef experiences:

I have a daily income that is in the 300-500K range from droid sales alone. That does not include other sales that I make from the Master Artisan and Merchant professions (eg powerups, meds, vehicles etc). I sell on average 50 crates a day of BH droids alone (a crate contains 5 droids). Each droid takes 3 or 4 subcomponents (EMMs and GPs from MA). To make a run of 1000 (ie 200 crates) of BH arakyd droids I need to make 4 separate factory runs of 1000 subcomponents before making the final droid. Thus, a run of a single set of droids that will last me less than a week of sales, takes 8 days of factory time. Since I have 4 factories already and two full time apprentices with their own factories, I can run a lot of that in parallel, but it should give you an idea of the shear volume of stuff that needs to go into making just a single DE product, not including the rest of the parts and subcomponents that are generally made in factories too. (eg a probot needs a chassis, which requires as one component microsensor suite, which requires a GP module, control unit and power conditioner subcomponents etc etc).

Honestly, why are you still here? THIS IS THE CHEF FORUMS. Stop trying to compare these two professions, in this vein attempt to make us all weep on your shoulder. You make driods, we make food, it isn't the same process or economy.

Honestly, I'm just not sure why he is posting here, we are trying to discuss how these changes effect Chef not Driod Engineer. The only reason I can think of is his bitterness towards his own profession and his lack of self control to keep those comments restrained in context to his own profession instead of taking his conversations to other professions, where they are simply not needed.

Driod Engineer vs. Chef is like Comparing Apples to Oranges.

Okay, here's a question:
How many uses would it take for a keg to be useful?

or asking a different way:
If you could craft a crate of BOH in one container, would it be easier?
How many uses would this container have?

Now, you can't get something for nothing. How would you compensate for having a stack (not crate) with so many uses? More material used to create the container? Multiple identical final components to put in a container? (that's backwards, I know. You put a container in the recipe for food, not food in the container)

I guess we'll see soon enough what the DEVs had in mind. Let's find out what you have in mind.

Reading about this change at first I was feeling a little crusty and change-resistant, but I think it will be good to add a new element to chef. Glasses and Kegs are a good way to express the difference between the customers that just want to sip and the ones that need to be checking into AA. I have some really addicted customers that sound like they'll go into withdrawals if I don't get that Fishak ready in time

I think customers will LOVEthe RPing possibilities of this -- "I'll take a keg of Sunburns", or "I'll have a shot of Ice Blasters please". It's just too bad medium glasses can't be called "pints" -- there's nothing like ordering "a pint of your finest ale, barkeep!".

I think our main problem is not that factories take too long, because if I'm not mistaken it takes as long or longer for every other profession that uses factories. I think the real problem is that there aren't enough chef characters to meet the increased demand for food in general.

RIght now I have so many orders it will take me 9 days to fill them all, and I haven't even had a chance to restock my own vendors. It's not the time it takes to make (although we'd all like it if crates would just zap into existence instantly) but the fact that there are aLOT of people that want to buy aLOT of food, but most cities only have one restaurant.

If I could make double the crates I can now, thenmy customers would just buymore, and I'd still be working my butt off . Thinking of Dsabre's comments (and btw, I think i love you :smileyhappyif Icould fill up my entire vendor with 20 crates ofthe popular foodsit would disappearjust like that. And most likely, it will be bought by just one guy

I love being a chef immensely and if my only problem is that I have too much business, well that's not a bad problem to have. And it's cool to see some new changes coming down the way. I trust SirVimes will communicate our concerns to the developers, and they'll either get addressed or they won't. Either way, I'm not going to worry about it, and I'm just going to enjoy playing the game.

Thats a good point, no matter how much you make people will buy more, they will ask for more. So it really doesnt make for less work, customers will request kegs now. Also I dont have any customers who want sips of everything, they all want as much as possible.

I don't think it is that precise. I'm pretty sure wood doesn't have any flavor stat and fairly sure on PE. I would sure how wood is considered an organic though. Same thing with Hides or anything in the "Flora Structureal" class.

Saitek, I am here because I also have a Chef char. You make points, I want to clarify based on the points you make. I don't put Chef in my sig because I have enough traffic already from all my sales that I don't need even more from the Chef line of business. You asked a question, I made a response. What's so hard to understand about that? And yes, I do see a lot of very common things between Chef and any other crafting profession. I'm trying to point out to you that your complaints about time it takes to sell things is neither unique, nor a particularly worrisome situation. Sure it might be nice to reduce factory times for a particular item, but it is equivalent to the requirements and demands of other elite crafting sessions. Perhaps you don't like having that pointed out to you, but it is a fact of life, so learn to deal with it and look outside the window rather than crying over your own perceived mis-fortunes.

Hey now, everybody who plays the game has a right to their opinion. You can feel free to disagree or ignore it, but let's not call people idiots or anything.

Ok, so I told the devs that we are cautiously pleased with this...that most of us (no, not all) like the theory but we need to see it in practice to know how it will really work out. Is this fair to say?

I did pass on two concerns.

1) That we like the fact that factory times are going to be cut down, but we are concerned that the extra factory runs for the containers are going to negate the shorter factory times.

2) That there is really no point in having the small glasses or large glasses and all because everybody is going to want the best, and that is kegs. One possible solution to this is give small glasses and large glasses some of their own benefits (I actually just cut and pasted some of sythlove's stuff).

Is there anything else I need to bring up with the developers about the drink containers?
