Thread: Proposal on reducing BE's contribution to food effectiveness
CJadefire wrote:
By the by, there's not really any point to continuing in a discussion, Nah, if you are stating upfront you're not listening to anyone's opinions on your opinions, and telling us to ignore you.
The problem seems to stem from the fact that anyone who isn't an old timer in your little clique is immediately branded "neo-chef" or something of the like and some reason or another is brought up why they aren't of any worth to the community. These reasons include but are not limited to : having a BE alt, being a recent Chef Master, not having a post count that goes into 4 digits, or not posting here long enough.
What I do notice about this community is that it's extremely xenophobic and defensive. If you weren't around since release you aren't worth the skin you were born into, basically. Am I here to ruffle feathers? No. Not intentionally anyways. I will however not tolerate the crap I'm handed by a few elitists who insist that I'm only here for the money and I cannot possibly know what I am talking about. I gave you the option to ignore me because that's the only option you have that's going to keep me from speaking my mind. I have one also. You would do well to remember that no one outside this forum gives a rat's that you've been a chef since release. Certainly no one in the real world does.
I'm here to listen and to participate. I didn't start taking **edit** out on anyone until it turned into name calling. The whiner comment was specifically geared at that "crippling dependency" comment which was as much a melodramatic whine as any I have ever seen. Even you have to admit that. Unbalanced, sure! Crippling? Hell no.

That those changes went in anyway is a testament to Verant's deaf ears - not to the idea that the Vimes, or any longtime chef, didn't object enough.
Ja-van,
Having fewer options and making them simpler to make is a negative in my book, not a positive. BE's want the same thing that chefs want. Lots of variety, challenge, the ability to make really bad or really good stuff depending on how we make it and how good we are, and an ability to affect the end product and get some satisfaction out of our controbution to that. If anything if they doubled the amount of schematics we had for chef tissues and made each one more challenging to make I'd welcome that, lol. Throwing things in a factory, logging out, and seeing 100 crates the next morning magically appear when you login just isn't that interesting or stimulating. Let's face it, anyone who has played as a BE for a while has got millions in the bank. No need to do this simply for what satisfaction is derived from seeing a bigger number on your bank statement. The simpler it gets and easier it gets the less likely I'll continue doing it and the more likely I'll find something Iike doing better and move on.

Thank you for the post Arthur, I guess I can understand that the thought of loosing schematics could be considered a bad one.Would you not agree though that having1 tissuefor heavy, medium, and light instead of 4 tissues for each of the grades of tissue would be logistically easier for you to make?

To Nah,
I don't wish to hijack someone else's thread, but to use your own words, perhaps you should learn to read. I've never claimed to be more valuable, I am NOT resistant to the changes (in fact, I said, I will abide with the profession regardless of how it turns out), and I will seldom if ever tell anyone that opinion is not valid. As for ignoring you, I choose not to, as I have an issue ignoring those that come to the boards in a confrontational manner.
Now as to your comments regarding SirVimes and the glory days. He'd have no reason to be insulted as I've done my best to provide information, assistance and ideas since the day I supported I his bid for Correspondent. The glory days, my friend, are from that, that is the thing that you would realize had you been here sooner. Stack sizes of 1, food that poisoned, and buffs that did not compare are not glory. They are, however, the battle scars worn by any truly dedicated soldier.
One last question:
This thread was about a proposed change. I took the idea and expanded upon it. You lambasted everyone that came in to debate and discuss. Which of us is the one resistant to change?
Sincerly,

(Oh, and for the record - and those that keep track of these things, my guild provides me with all the meat I need. The guild's 2 Bioengineers have been providing me with any/all tissues I've needed. As a result, I haven't made anything without the best possible additive usable, nor have I had to worry about 'adapting', as it was put. Though I can work within the given system, it is how it plays out, personally, I take issue with)
CJadefire,
you know what? I think perhaps the biggest change in this past release was that they stealth added a brand new skill mod to the chef profession. Its new, and pretty well thought out, although occasionally buggy, and adds a lot of challenge and intrigue and occasionally breaks up an otherwise dull routine, and it will have as big an impact on your ability to be successful as a chef as any other of the skill mods. It's called the "playing well with others" mod. I think that they started out certain crotchety old chefs with +0 in this area, but there is ample opportunity to increase this mod as your put some effort into it.

(1) I'm not sure if you've heard the expression "if the shoe fits, wear it" The people I am referring to are people like Nikii and Jar-Va who go out of their way to rub it in everyone's face that they aren't worth pissing on. I don't normally name names because I feel it accomplishes little but since you called me out on this I had to.

To Nah,
Since you've broken down, I will address each in turn, beginning with your opening comment of being misguided, which seems to be the root of your first poing.
1) you quoted my words, not the others. Believing the reference is towards me is not an assumption but proper in such a case.
2) I will concede this point for your original post. It is a toss-up as to where, exactly, the confrontation between you and the others truly began. Unfortunately, it is those posts which were fresher in my mind.
3) We agree on this. I assume it was more a statement, than a point of contention
4) As with number one, I will take fault for this, as your original post was, indeed, non-confrontational. (In my opinion, not that it matters [sardonic, good word *wink*])
Truly,
Misterie
wth is your problem? Do you have some sort of fixation issues?

I'm badly digressing here so I'll cut it short.. just be careful what you wish for. It's like I told Nikki..if the need to be "the best" is so important, then you need to bust your ass and do the work needed to be "the best". It is still attainable, and if your only gripe is that the gap between you and "the next best" has gotten smaller then you need to wake up and realize the the problem isn't with the chef class it's your own competitiveness. Learn to play with the other kids in the sandbox. You can't be king of the hill forever, and I will dare to go so far as to say that if the ONLY thing the chef revamp had accomplished was this fact, then it was a complete and stunning success.

All right everyone, quit it. Nah's "no change needed" opinion is just as valid as anything else.
And Nah, I saw enough people concerned about the magnitude of the additives' effects to start this thread, so calling people "whiners", "elitist", or "hypocrites" just because they'd like to see some change is out of line. I'm not sure if its your intention, but the more you post the more it looks like you're just trying to antagonize people. If you think the system post-revamp is good, fine, I'm glad you're happy. If you think proposing changes is all because of "chef ego", well, in my case you're wrong but I have no way of proving that to you. I am careful what I wish for which is why I tried to suggest something that stays as close to the current system as possible, while still putting more of the quality control on the chef making the additives and foods rather than how good of a BE you partner with (or multi-class with or make a mule with).
And for the various others (Nah, you're singled out only due to sheer volume), attacking the person and their perceived intentions is always easier than debating the merits of their idea, but accomplishes nothing. If you think a suggestion is impractical, unbalancing, or unfair to other professions say so (and why), maybe suggest an alternative, but leave it at that.
If anyone wants to flame me, it is as simple as clicking my user name over on the left there, then clicking "Send this user a private message". Or if you want it more public, start a new thread. Keep it out of here.
Very cute! I'll tell that to the guild I've run for six years and the very nice city I'm the city planner for - my problem with the chef revamp being completely out of whack is that *I* don't work well with others! I'm sure my opinions are simply invalid because I've been around awhile and have the gall to express my opinions in a thread asking for them. Boggle.
Sciguy, you may have better luck polling actual chefs, away from bored BEs?
