Thread: We are gong to need help on the test center.
That's an interesting idea, I could also do something to help like Saitek suggested. Tell me if it would be helpful to get some meat/hide/bone supplies or if you need someone to harvest flora, etc. Getting survey up would be np... My forte is really not in the testing department, I think Kriles is great at it from his posts and I'm jealous that my mind doesn't work that way.

To be honest, I am kinda worried about this. You are all right. I mean, I have a master on the test center and I am having trouble getting the resources I need.
But if this stuff is not tested....we may end up with a buggy system
You know, I could set up a character on TS just to gather resources for you, that would probably help. I'll just set up a combat character to get both animal parts and then use my lots for harvestors.
no way in hell I'm grinding up to master chef on TC..
But, basically, here's my thought on the "buff" foods:
1) anything less than 120 seconds = crap, never gunna make it (minimum should be 240s IMO)
2) anything that you can only eat one of and has a buff below 200 = crap, never gunna make it (350 should be minimum buff)
3) anything that comes out of the crafting station with 2 or less uses and requires 6 experimentation to get it up to 5 uses (and buffs less than 1000) = crap, never gunna make it
4) anything that requires more than 1 scouted organic component = crap, never gunna make it. (seriously)
Those are some basic rules to follow for creating recipes... anything that deviates any of the rules above should have some insane buffs on it..
Some rules for making new recipes:
1) Anything that requires meat / scouted organic= very good buff
2) Anything that requires more than 2 types of subcomponents = very good buff
3) Anything that requires more than 150 resources per item = very good buff
Also, it would be cool for the devs to create a "mark as crap" thing for your schematics, this way when I get bored of making the normal stuff I make, and I start making other things, I'll already know what is total crap and what might be worth investing my time in..
At current count, chef has11 viable recipes, and they all dont fit in my "gripes" list above.. but ... I make em still..
BOH
Fishak
Glucose
Ryshcate
Veghash (questionable - small buffs, small time, but good for armor)
Bivoli (questionable - glucose and fishak are way better, but hey, theres more carni meat in the galaxy than domesticated)
FireStew (questionable - a good buff level/usesbut for a stat that most people dont want as much as others.. now something like this for mind would rock)
Tat Sunburn
Flameout (questionable - short duration, nevermind the whole ore thing which is gay)
Vercupti (questionable, too much meat, too little uses)
Ice Blaster (questionable - I've gotten these to 230 will max)
If I'm missing anything let me know.... most everything else on the chef recipe list gets labeled "PET FOOD"
I'm thrilled I got Novice Chef now! yippie! I have a BE/CH that makes pets to sell and can get some creds, but my artisan is still a little faster (and safer) I just need to go on a killing spree to get her weapon skills up.
Depending on the volume I can make, I'll probably give some stuff out in New Unity .. or place a vendor that has for-cost foods for testing.
I'll also like to offer my engineering services to anyone who wants personal harvesters... bring me supplies and I'll craft them for free ... just target what you sample while you're working up surveying and I'll make the harvesters for ya.
BER depends on quality but with decent stuff I can usually get a BER of 2 or 3 on a personal hervester and 6-7 on a wind harvester.
Learn for the resent BE disaster. The cloning system on TC wasn't working for half the testing time. Very few BEs on test center ment the system worked, but wasn't balanced. Now we have CL10 critters that look like CL40 critters in the wild. CSRs can give out resources, it isn't a problem. They could also adjust peoples skills. Get a good team of 10-20 master chefs on live, get them on TC with a couple of CSRs. Have them skilled up and given various resources, a house, crafting station and a couple factories. From there they can make different things. What is produced should be given out for free for testing by the people that would normally use such things, ie fighters, ect.
Anything sort of doing the above is not getting it done, the system will not be balanced and there will be bugs that will look like exploits. On the flip side, you will have some food items that are too weak to be of any use with poor testing as well.
Imagine this.. you log in, grab your trusty CDEF and head out to the marksman trainer... you get novice marksman... and go off and start killing rills. You note 2 things: the damage and speed of your attacks, and the experience gleaned from each kill...
You then type /setexperience pistol 2000. Then click on the pistols 2 box and automagically are given the skill. Repeat your test. /setexperience 10000. Pistols 3, here you come. The advantage to the playtesting environment is two-fold. Firstly, it will allow players to easily get to a point where they can do meaningful testing. And secondly, it would encourage more people onto test center, as a lot of people will want to try out template changes there first, before committing to them in-game on their regular characters.
The second thing that is needed is a stock supply of a bunch of items. Harvesters, money, tools. While it would be difficult to load up a person's bank box with a boatload of resources (because each individual resource is so different), it would not be terribly difficult to give every player an extravagent amount of radioactives (for power) and money (for maintenance) and harvesters (for.. well, for harvesting). This two changes would not be horrifically difficult to implement, could be server-code specific to test-center (meaning we lose some of our code testing certainty because the server will NOT completely reflect production but we gain the impossibility of the client being used on a live server and a player being able to manipulate their own stats and skills at will), and would be VERY useful to everyone when testing changes or just testing game mechanics in general. Combine this with a production server copy being made available as a test center server and rotate the production server used and you have a perfect balance to make a positive testing experience.
My rambling stops here....
I have created a test center character to try these things out. I am so sick of making biological effect controllers I could die. How good those travel biscuits and bofa treats look in comparison!
I'm glad someone asked where the people are in TC because it's awfully ghosttown like! It makes it hard to buy the things you need to craft as well.
GrimRebuke...in theory, I agree with you 100%. However, in practice I don't think it will get the desired results.
What would most likely happen is all of the powergammers would flock to Test Center because they could max out their characters in about 30 seconds. This would result in TC becomming populated with a massive number of players who have no intention of testing anything...just trying to get the most powerful characters they can. My guess is that the server population would reach it's maximum allowance within a week..leaving any future Testers out in the cold.
The /setexperience idea you provided would be awesome if the TC community was a controlled environment that only actual testers had access too.
Just my two cents. ![]()
there are tents with cheap resources in Tuskens bane (tatooine) and New unity (naboo)
There are usually people in New unity and skystone (tatooine)
there is Mortari's butcher shop selling meat at 2 CPU behind the TB cantina
Mortari Te-Salutant (Test Center)
If you need a vehicle to make it there from Bestine, just send me a tell ingame.

You mean like... Beta?

Seriously though, UO has a test shard up periodically and you get a bank full of absolutely everything and the ability to set your stats and skills. The only difference is UO's Test Center is wiped all the time, and from what I've heard, our TC hasn't been wiped since launch.
Add in /setexperience along with a monthly wipe and it'd be fine.
