Thread: Vegeparsine/Elshandruu tested
WOOOSH... what a revelation Regen good sheeeyt.. the FOG has lifted!! woot but......................................................
OMFG... now im totally clueless and confused..
so what about the defender tree xXxx that deals with ranged defense. so i guess the tree is borked cause jedi is melee and the only way the jedi defender using the x4xx tree to make use of the defense bonus is to carry a pistol or some type of ranged weapon. hmm.... ranged saber... come on devs...

Though i can't see this being a bug (the only one there could be that they should really work both ways.
Either way, good work Regen.
Please seek clarification as to Profession skill mods as well. Lots of ranged people get melee defense and lots of melee people get ranged defense as part of their templates. It would be a shame if those skill mods were wasted.

Thats one of the main points in the post. Having skill mods be redundant, and espeicially important skill mods like this is a worrying thing.

yeah - for example a carbineer gets some melle def in thier trees - these would do nothing for them...
Exactly... also doesnt melee defense on the character sheet increase when you hae your ranged weapon equiped?
IE for me a rifle....
This would seem to fly in the face of the above info.
I am not at my gaming computer right now so I will have to check this when I get home.
FYI, this has been tested and is being discussed over at the BH and Jedi forums: Regen's conclusions are correct AND they apply to skill mods from skill trees as well. Ranged professions with melee defense mods are screwed, melee professions with ranged defense are screwed.
This is a major issue and the cat is out of the bag. It's more than just food and tapes. It will be interesting to see how the devs respond.
Anyways.. I see thata lot of jedi (and probother people)dont seem to understand it, so if any of them is checking out this forum, Ill give a nice shortsummary:
- Ranged Defense mods(from clothing +drink + template) : Defense against Ranged & Melee attacks when holding a ranged weapon.
- Melee Defense mods(from clothing +food + template): Defense against Ranged & Melee attacks when holding a melee weapon (hands aremelee)
After eating a food or drink re-equip your weapon and the extra defense should kick in. It seems that it still adds the extra defense after the food wears out... probably until you re-equip your weapon again (no idea about the effect of shuttling...)
- Profession specific defense (Rifle defense, Carbine defense etc etc) : added to your Defense against Ranged & Melee attacks when holding a rifle/carbine etc...
(assuming its a bug)::
-Unfortunately, I think this is not going to work out well for me when this gets "fixed": My effective defense vs Melee characters will then go down with +65 points.
-But why does a Bounty Hunter get less defense vs Melee than defense vs Ranged. Seems kinda weird to me, bh'shunt jedi, and those are melee, so bh's should have more defense vs melee actually...

a few quick points to ponder.....
1. The system IS borked. Otherwise each proffession would only have def for their type of weapon (Ranged or melee)
2. You CAN still benefit from foods..... if you are ranged, take thundercloud, if you are melee take vega
3. Always re-equip your weapon after any acc/def food
4. There is still a benefit from foods, so people will still buy them
5. Some poeple don't know their foods are broke yet, so people will still buy the wrong ones.
6. Devs will likely take forever to fix this problem. If they ever acknowledge it.
7. why don't we have a known bug list from devs?
8. why do WE find the bugs and not the DEVS!
9. Kudos to those that did the original testing of this, amazing find.
10. My testing confirms this.... you need food for which weapon you have equipped.
Frankly, I dont think it will make that big of a difference if it IS working as intended. Granted, there will need to be some changes, but it wont be the end of the world. One of the biggest issues will probably spring up around Pistoleers who are supposed to have the highest defenses of the ranged professions to make up for their short range. As it stands, rifleman have the highest ranged defense by a large margin. That means that currently, a rifleman can tank better than a pistoleer can. LOL. That is just wrong.
Either way, I just hope we can get some clarification on this issue.
There's no word yet i'm afraid, but as soon as i know something i'll post it here.
You may have started it, tip hat to you.
I also discovered this by testing...anyone can and should have tested this. It only takes a few minutes.
But...finally, the word is out. I posted this on the Jedi forums weeks ago and again recently. All I get it grief and confusion. I don't understand why peeps don't simply say "thanks alot, and,I will validate this myself"
But I guess, at the end of the day, the ignorant pay the price.
