Thread: What do you like about being a chef
1. Fun factor.. as was said, i can enjoy myself making renamed foods, the food is great for RP [which i do] as well as useful for players who know what to look for. Also, a new player is more likely to try food and see an immediate benefit of some kind than, say, trying a droid or pet or something like that. It's use is intuitive: you eat it, it works.
2. It's not the usual thing to be. Although I expect this to change when the Chef v2 comes out, it's intensive enough tha the fly-by-nights will retunr to the woodwork, leaving the rest of us dedicated chefs behind. You have to WANT to be a chef to be a chef in this game.
3. People speak to me now that I am showing a chef tag, rather more than whenI had my Master Artisan up.
4. It made my wife smile. She's big into cooking [bless the Food Network on TV], and is pretty good at it. I can't cook worht a darn IRL.... but it amuses her that I cook in Star Wars. So, if my wife is happy, I'm happy.
5. Money.. what money? Heheh. If the Vendor cap goes in, this will be my new cry. Well, for the three days I stay in the game afterward, anyway.

Really? I thought that was SciGuyCo? I was thinking of giving him the title of Victim Chef.

I get no respect.... ![]()
Some of the things I like:
1) The crafting system in SWG is great, really gives a math geek like me something to sink my teeth into (even if I do tend to go a bit overboard and scare people). And with the variety of resources used in food (and the fact that each planet has different flora to play with) there's really a lot you can do. It's not like armorsmith where everyone wants the uber-composite (with the occasional advanced ubese).
2) Repeat customers. I've got people who regularly ask when I'm going to restock food X, because it got them out of a tight scrape. Which reminds me, I've got to go pick up some domesticated rice for that Ryshcate order...
3) The forum community. You guys/gals are the weirdest group I've seen posting (well, except for those really insane GAT people). I think I fit in well. ![]()
4) The chef revamp. If the artisan foods that wewere shown are any indicator, Chefs are going to get a special niche that will really help to differentiate us from doctor/entertainer buffs. And I'm starting to get a little tired of harvest, factory run of aludian, factory run of carbosyrup, factory run of angerian, factory run of ryshcate, repeat.
the only part I truly love:
The mail and comm messages saying "Wow! that <insert food/drink name> was incredible!"
as for resource hunting - it's a bit too much for me. It's not such a challenge, as much as a time sink, in my opinion. I enjoy working on the experimentation of the food (though, I cringe when I see other chefs paying millions for SEAs - I don't charge enough), but I find that 98 percent of the time is trying to get resources, meats, BE components, minerals, etc together, and less than 2 percent is spend actually crafting.

Vodokar wrote:Being an elite combat, I love buffs and there is nothing so convenient as having my own buffs and using them when i need. I aspire to reach the true essence of "Iron Chef" all decked out in my ubese armour with chef hat on top and my wicked sharp Trandosian claws glistening in the sun just before ripping into the belly of some great beast (which will be cooked by me for supper to feed all my friends).
Looks like you and I read the same book
I like taking my cooking casually - I do it more as a trail cook than anything else. My cooking comes in 3 varieties: refined(only the best ingredients), standard(decent ingredients), and light(I throw a bunch of crap ingredients together and stir). I make a lot of light foods, because quite frankly that's all that most people really need. And I notice that the marginal difference between standard and refined foods rarely justifies the cost...
I like being in a profession where even my worst work has some utility - not like a weaponsmith who will never sell a pistol that's .3 too high on speed. I like being in a profession where I can choose how much time to spend working on production, knowing that in the end it will all sell anyhow.
I don't run harvesters, I don't keep massive stockpiles of resources on hand. If I want to make a run of something, I look on the bazaar, find a sufficient set of consistent supplies, experiment around, and slap a schematic in the factory. For me, it's all about casual production - I also do musician on my chef, so at lulls in the music I just slap something together a vehicle or something else.
I'm the kind of Chef anyone who's been in the army remembers. You can eat the food, but not a lot of tender preparation went into it. You eat it, and you fight better - and I could give a crap whether your mommy makes better.
That's why I love being a Chef.
The main reason I became a chef was two-fold:
1) To craft food buffs for my guild so we wouldn't have to buy foods at insane prices
2) MoneyMaker for me and guild
Now that I've been a master chef for a while, I would say that I enjoy the sheer power I have over about 50 - 80players gaming experience. Let me introduce you to my situation: I'm on the bloodfin server. I'm about the only chef who consistently puts 10-20 crates of glazed glucose on his vendor every day (and the stuff is usually 400+/400+ 6 minute 5 uses, 2 at a time edible rate). The only other guy I know of that makes glucose on a regular basis is Nunya (known him since launch) and he makes the BE'd stuff and sells it at like 150K per crate or so I hear. More power to him!! but my crap I sell at 50K per crate, and believe me, If I miss a day I hear about it... people are jonesin for this stuff, and I get begged for it all the time. I can sell 10 crates at the starport incoronet with ONE shout.
Reason I like chef is the crafting is cool, people are always asking me to bake a cake
and that you get respect being a chef. People understand that it isnt just something someone wanted to grind out its a true crafting profession. Plus you guys are great.

I had a big long post before, but it poofed. So heres the shortened version (with less whining)
I like being a chef because it ties more into roleplaying than any other profession, which makes it alot of fun. I get to cater weddings and parties, feed my friends and complete strangers, work the bar at your local cantina. I'll spareeveryone the parts I don't like about being a chef.
Just the other dayI got a great idea to make fortune cookies in add them in little meal containers (cargo pouches) and sell them on my vendor. Now I just need to get in touch with my PAs tailor. I also used to make Happy Meals, with little toys and fireworks with the food too. I should start making those again.
Martee's5 Favorite Reasons to Be a Master Chef:
1. You are useful to your PA.
2. You can make items which people value.
3. Given that food and drinks areconsumed upon use, demand never slows.
4. The profits are very, very good, even if you charge reasonable prices.
5. There are very few working, non-Holo Chefs, so you are somewhat of a novelty.
Martee's Extra 2 Reasons to be a Master Chef/Master Merchant:
1. Profits even better with reduced costs of vendors, facilities, etc.
2. Your food vendor can be a sexy Twi'lek in a bikini.
1) I like feeling useful. My services are much in demand in my PA and so far only about a dozen of them use food. Wonder what will happen when the rest of them discover it ![]()
2) I like the crafting system in SWG and the fact I can somewhat customize my food. I like finding the best resources and seeing what I can do with them.
3) I like the fact there aren't many of us, although I have been noticing more now, and there will probably be even more after the chef revamp.
4) People start conversations with you when you are a chef. Imperials , rebels, they all have to eat. Faction doesn't seem to matter when someone is hungry. I charge imperials more, being a rebel, and they still buy it anyway, lol.
1. The expert bartender title
2. getting the chicks ![]()
3. maken food for my self.
I really enjoy Chef because it's really something diffrent. Just something you don't see alot of in the game. Sorta fun to hear questions STILL about the food being broken.
The money rocks too.
But there is alot of potential, sorta with like Tailors, to roleplay and create an enviroment. Besides, everybody has combat skills, and with the state of the game-post holorcrons, it still allows for some stability within the high level chefs, and is quite the harbor to new chefs and in general a great community.
That's my $.02
