Thread: The State Of The Chefs Address
At the very least experimentation should have a bigger better affect on duration, but I'm sure others have discussed that enough before.
My concerns.
If there are plenty of problems now, why are they adding even MORE Content in the game instead of fixing current issues first? Once Player Cities are started testing phase then MOST or ALL of the effort will be placed getting that fixed and launched ASAP so we will be waiting yet again. SO why would someone knowingly go to the table to get a 2nd helping when their plate dropped a lot of stuff on the way cause it is already overflowing?
I don't know how hard Developing is but common sense is Screaming at this. I am hanging strong as well, but I don't understand how you can support and stand buy this guy when so far he has done NOTHING. Hard to have faith and follow a great leader when thereare noaccomplishments to follow.
What about Chef Hats?
If we have to play this way for a while , at least we could look good doing it.
X3 on stats X10 on duration ...TaaDaa...fixed.....not a balance issue becuase everyone has access to food.

Psst ...hey buddy....wana buy some milk?

Player Cities, mounts and vehicles were all promised release features that they had to cut to make the date - they then promised to have them in within a few months.. They have to implement them or annoy a whole lot of people.. Also, more features sell more boxes - no one is going to pass up SWG on the shelf because chefs are broken..
OK, the only real problem I see is that we obviously have GreenMarine as our dev. As far as I remember he's also the smuggmer dev (look at the underworld line, panic shot and feign death O_o) aswell as lead on the player cities.
Along with Chef, Smuggler was promised a lot of fixes, however, it is obvious Player Cities will get the priority, which means I can't see smuggler or chef getting fixed before player cities make it out (and probably some time after that, due to all the bugfixing there's gonna be).
I sat in the stratics dev chat the other night, and GreenMarine seemed a decent guy, but by his own admission, he has a lot of work on his hands right now.
I hope we do get some work done pretty soon, but I wont hold my breath.

Anyway, I beleive our profession would be almost worthwhile if they actually fixed the stats for our experimentation being blatently wrong. And it CAN'T be THAT hard. Just look at the actual code, get the percentages, change the display. Insta-Chef-Fix. Then all we'd need is milk and we'd have at least a viable class until the balance pass is made.
Yeah, I played EverQuest for 3 years, and I'm well aware of the way "Verant" handled things, but this isn't Verant anymore. This is Sony Online Entertainment backed by LucasArts.
You're trying to analyze the difficulty of the situation by speculating on what the code looks like. It isn't as simple as what you're saying. Like I said before, they have to analyze how beefing up the effects of our food will affect the game as a whole.
Buffs make the world go 'round. If they put in the changes you're suggesting are so totally "easy" then you'll have players popping our buffs that STACK, mind you, and tanking a nest of krayt dragons... steamrolling through Rancor dens... killing Dark Jedi without sweating... etc etc.
*sighs* Yes, it sucks it takes time to analyze, but you've just gotta do it for the good of the entire game.
I thank you SirVimes for this update.
Of course, I still disagree with the Player City crap. (it should have been there on release with speeders, creature mounts, and the silly gambling tables in the hotels/cantinas that no one uses)
I also play EQ. Five year live veteran and beta tester.
EQ never had as many bugs as SWG has had. I heard of missing items and lost characters, but I've never seen it this rampant in a game. It seems to have culled a bit, so that's good.
As far as providing buffs, they just need to go ahead and do the balancing act, and if everyone and thier momma starts slaying Krayt in 1 hit....it's time to give them more hit points. -)
I know as a DM in D&D for over20 years, that your players constantly want more and better. The only way to give it to them, and keep the game fun is to go ahead and give them thier toys, and increase the difficulty of thier targets. Plus, if you really work hard, you can keep killing them just like before. I know, this isn't pen and paper, but if you've played all the major MMO's like I have, you know what I say to be true. They constantly make mobs/npc's tougher to kill because the players get better and more spoiled as the game goes on. Even new ones.
I like being the unique profession. Doing stuff that few try doing. However there's a difference between not doing something because it's obscure, and not doing something because it's broken.
I guess it's back to "This is a profession for the long term. It'll rock once it works"
I think I'll drop Pistoleer and work up to Carbineer. That'll give me something to do while I wait.

Liv its Verant, if you ever played EQ you may know its not that easy, but they always take the easy way out. ("fixing" without looking at consequences)

I don't see a quick fix helping what is already a rush job. I would rather see them do it right, once and for all. Might take a little longer, but would be better in the long run, in my opinion.
Amen to that. When they do the "Big Chef Fix," you can bet it will be a long, long time before they even give us a sniff again. You all better hope they do it right the first time, which means that they should take a long, long time doing it.
better hope developer Billy-city-boy-who-does-chef-in-his-spare-time gets all the chef stuff in before player cities go live. After that happens he'll be swamped with bugs.
So SirVimes any new news?
From reading your report (great job by the way) and looking over the patch on test and the fact that Player cities and stuff havent even made it to test yet, im wondering just how long we are going to have to wait.
Our dev is working on the player cities so what another week or two till it goes to test? Then what a couple of weeks on test and then over to live. Then of course all the resulting bugs and the more than likely BIG bug that they have to fix quickly tacks on another week or so at least.
After all that our dev will (hopefully) start going over us to do a pass. Well who knows how long that will take, lets be optimistic and say 2 weeks of solid work. That goes to test for a week or so then over to live.
Of course this is all speculation but by my count it seems like its going to be at least 9 to 10 weeks if its rushed. More like 3 to 4 months if its done right, and thats assuming that he starts our pass first and not one of the apparently 2 or 3 proffessions he's over.
Ugh!
I of course plan to hang in there, as Chef has been a fun ride (even with the incredibly irritating food bug that is STILL in the game after 4 weeks) so far, but its getting harder and harder.
Pweeeeze give us some good news!
Hey Vimes, point the dev you are corresponding with on two things ...
1. The poll says FIX before PA Cities
2. the . well ... umm .. little thread of the chef revolt (below)
