The chef profession is in excellant shape now and will only improve as people discover these new foods... It is a matter of educating the people. So what you have a few factory runs to make your product...lol... try making a single 5 use imperial detonatorand then come tell me how hard foods are to make. Or maybe try to make a 4th generation bio pet. Fact is chef had it too easy previously. Now your earning potential is 10 fold. The work involved is NOT 10 fold... I am sorry but running to a factory and inserting a schem and ingrediants is not hard work...lol

Chef was too easy before? Hrmm I see. Can I ask what your level of expertise in chef prepatch was? I have made 4th gen bio pets thanks. The thing is thats a one time sale (and its fun to do too). Thats not a 100-200 per day sale. How many people come to you and ask to buy 500 top notchpets a week. The fact is you have obviously never cheffed. I will apologize profusely if Im incorrect but I cant see any chef who has run a successfulbusinessprepatch coming up with those ideas. The chef foods themselves interest a lot of people and hopefully the brandy spree will die down and some other stuff will get recognition. Many people look at the food and say well yea they did chef right! And the earning potential MAY MAY be increased, thats debatable over the long haul. But unless you are looking at this revamp from a purely profit angleor consumer angle (debatable), this revamp has brought serious issues with it. You are right about chef now....its basically inserting a schematic and begging a BE to sell you components. We used to have to scour every planet multiple times a week for the best resources because they actually mattered a lot and no one really sells flora. They really dont matter now. We used to have to learn how to experiment stuff to get the best benefit from our points. We dont have to do that now either. Sony has pretty much made it so we can only experiment where they want us to so we will mostly all be putting our points exactly in the same spots. The work has lessened in the aspect of doing anything that remotely resembles using intelligence. Now its all about harvesting anything thats around and begging for components and making 50 factory runs a day. Its really funny that so many people think they know about chef but have no clue. I would urge you to go read the breakdown that was posted of how many resources a chef uses in a week. Then Id like to hear you say again that chefs have it easy. The devs quite obviously dont understand the sheer volume of what we do. Obviously most players do not either.

Well if you have truly made a 4th gen pet then fun may not be the first thing that comes to mind...lol.. so lets see you need 5 dna samples to make a first gen pet. From that you have to get 5 more samples, this can happen but highly doubtful. Chances are you will need at least 3 pets to get five second generation dna samples. ok so far we have 15 wild dna samples on average to get one 2nd gen pet. Now we need to go third gen... so again chances of getting 5 samples off your 2nd gen pet prolly not gonna happen, so back to square one. using the same 3 pets for 5 samples you need at least 60 samples now to make one 3rd generation pet. Now do the math for the 3rd and 4th gen pets and tell me it is fun and easy... We wont even go into a critical on the 4th gen pet...lol.. 200ish samples from high level pets is not an easy task my dear. If you have made one like you said I doubt FUN would be the word used...lol... Nowconsider after all that work it makes 1 pet which will sell for 300k maybe! You have the advantage of multiple finished product with zero risk of failure after the original schem is made. These are not comparable im sorry.

Iwas recently a mster ws. Almost anything we made required at least 4 factory runs so i fully understand how schems and factories work.. I am also currently a doctor which requires almost as many schem runs as a chef and far more difficult resourses to collect. This is why i say you had it too easy before... is because most other crafting classes require just as much work as the dear chef class. Now are you trying to tell me that chef is easier now than it was before?I will agree on one point though. The power that a bio can boost a food is too high and should be scaled...but honestly you dont need bio stuff to make chef foods do you? So really you are dependant on a tailor and again only if you need trim...11 point investment and you make your own damn trim so really your dependancy is not that big. Besides almost all crafting classes require the services of another profession in their goods.. again the chefs are not alone in this...others been doing it since day 1.

Chef has been blessed with an awesome patch yet many of you complain about it...just staggers me...thread after thread of chefs making millions a day and still you find room to be unhappy

Ja-Van I spent a night with a chef and saw 90% of the foods available. If you think only 2 are useful i suggest you talk to some pvpers..lol... there are alot of good foods...dont remember all the names but the 2 I assume you mean are brandy and the mind secondary food. But what about foods that eliminate 50% damage for X amount of hits (synthsteak?) ...or flameout (?) which was 99% damage reduction... Extra harvest for the rangers collecting the very valuable and hard to get in quantity avian meat.. action stat buffs...health stat buffs ... experimentation foods (dont want a crit on that RIS armor now do we). terrain negotiation and melee def for the jedi's and BH's who have little or no defences otherwise. +20 to dodge??? and you say people will laugh at that? umm think again dude... when dodge no longer stacks fencers be banging down the door for that stuff...lol.. or at least the smart ones will.... ever tried to hit someone with high dodge skills? not an easy task and can mean the diference between victory and the cloning center. Reduced spice downer...again an awesome use item (although i hear currently bugged).. And I suppose the mind heal foods are crap too? These arethefew that i remember and all will have a market...

To you I say the same as nikii... You do not NEED bio products in your food... If you CHOSE to have them maybe you have to make a bio a deal he cant refuse... at least to get a working relationship. I doubt any bio will refuse a good offer... maybe something like this...

Chef : hi i need nutrients and I am willing to give you 2 crates of any food i make for X amount of schems using my resourse.

Bio E: so for 5 minutes of my work I get 2 crates of food? and resourse cost to me is zero? deal..

If you do not see how much the chef profession has improved there is little I can do to change your mind. even non bio enhanced brandy is infinately better than the old fishak...hands down! relax look around and enjoy your profession. It will be one of the most rewarding in the game.

Maybe you would do this deal. But thats part of the problem. Very few are. Most are wanting 50% of profit or 50% of the product. Heck my BE wants 40% of myprofit on every crate to supply me 500 meat and a schem. This after I asked to purchase crates of components.

Additionally, you might want to consider its been almost a week. Chefs are starting to get stocked vendors. We might have a bit better idea what foods are selling from our vendors than you do.

There's also another point to the debate that isn't even being considered. People play BioEngineers to get out into nature more and play "God" with different creatures, and alter tissues, and pretty much roleplay the Mad Scientist(powerleveling one right now - and it is FUN). Theyaren't forcedto slave over factory runs in order to survive, unless they really need money (and they can still make a great deal of it if they so choose). I'm sure they put in a great deal of effort locating resources - but hey, each profession needs to have a downside. Locating quality resources is something that the BioEngineer shares with the entire Artisan community.BioEngineers have alot more to do, and a heck of a lot more functionality than Chef's do. I'm sorry... but this latest Chef "revamp" was a bigger boon to the BioEngineers than to the Chef class.

See, Chefs can only do one thing. Make food. That's it. The upside is its profit. It's ever-increasing downside is its reduction in functionality. In the "good ol' days" of egb/'''ghhnm;/ , you could tell a true Master Chef from the newer ones just by looking at their products. This isn't the case anymore - and its ruffled alot of feathers.

Yes currently you do know what is selling best. But very few have seen all the foods and all anyone is talking about is brandy. You make foods andI consume them on a very regular basis. I was using foods in beta before most even heard of Fishak or Sunburn. Granted they were low level noob foods but i still experiment with them. I can tell you right now as the pvpers discover the other foods you will be selling more than just mind foods/drinks. It is just a matter ofselling your product.. If a guy walks in with a Powerhammer in his hands wanting brandy sell him some melee defense food to go with it.. or damage reduction food.. explain to them why they need it. Sell your product if you want to expand your business. I have 5 foods on order currently and all will be consumed daily. Elite players will buy one of everything if you can convince them they need it. And honestly many of these foods sell themselves.

Tell you what Nikii... I will grind a master bio for you on your server if you help with grinding materials. Then I will make you all the schems your datapad will hold. All I want in return is help grinding to master cause well new server = poor newb.

Might be the most accurate statement anyone has made yet. My only reponse to that is who cares what the Jones' make as long as your doing what makes you happy and pulling in a few creds for your own retirement fund.

Well actually the BE that wanted to charge me thatI provided all the flora for the second half of his grind. (all of the creature tree and the last box and half of tissues) Free of charge. Ive been buying hisproducts for the last 3-4 months. Ive provided him harvs because he didnt have any. Ive given him waypoints to place his harvs because he has no survey skills. Its only after the revamp that this current situation developed. That tells me he knows hes got me by the proverbial you know whats. Im not looking to take advantage of people. Just simply not to be taken advantage of either. And really due to the way the patch was implemented that basically seems to be whats going on here

I appreciate the offer and Ill be glad to help you out if you *want* to make a BE on my server, but Im working on finishing the grind now so I dont have to deal with it anymore. BE is a pretty fun profession IMO anyway. I had a total blast playing with BE after the revamp they got. Enough so that my stores stock fell behind cause I wouldnt stop playing with the new system to see what I could make and how I could make properties do what I wanted them to do. And where to get the DNA that had the properties I wanted. Its a pretty neat system to me. Unfortunately most of the stuff I made was ruined with the last patch (no i didnt use bugged dna). So I think BEs got a pretty raw deal with that end of the it as well as the folks that bought the pets (I just made pets for my friends and family).

Even tho Im remedying my situation, I still feel that theres a problem that needs to be addressed which is why I havent just shutup. Just that thesituation ever developed into this to me says BEs have more control over our product than we do, and frankly I just dont see any way that would be right. I loved using BE components to give my food an edge. I dont love the difference in BE food being so great now that people snub food without. Yes, Im still selling food without. But a very large portion of those buying it, want the BE stuff and Im getting a lot of ...well so and sos stuff is twice as good as yours please put me on your list for BE stuff next time. No one wants to hear they are half as good all day long. Especially a profession master. Even more so when the whole reason for that has nothing at all to do with your skills but if someone felt like allowing you to purchase something.

The thing is the revamp has just happened and most people don't know about new food. Heck some even haven't heard about the revamp People are used to food as a stats buff, a lot of them are worried about mind so they see this brandy and buy it in the first place. But it doesn't mean you can't change it! Stock your vendors with other items and try educating customers. On their part they should appreciate if you explain how the new system works and what other foods are (or at least point them to the web page where they can read about it).

If you have several factories I don't see how you should become a slave of Vasarian Brandy. My factories are busy with Vagnerian Canap, Blue Milk, Synthsteak, Thaktillo to name a few (and I plan to try most of the recipes). I have custom orders for dodge, accuracy (too bad Citrus Cake is bugged I guess I'll switch to Crispic), various defense food. And I've only started a food business and few people know about me.

Of course I wouldn't mind if skill buffs had higher bonuses but our dear Correspondent mentioned that devs are going to work with the new food and I have faith in him

First, I need to take back the "there are only 2 worth making right now" comment, I was pretty flusterated last night after the BE refused to do a schematic cause he was a Chef. I looked over the menu againI truely feel that only6 are worth the effort in making. I admit thought that I am basing this opinion on BE enhanced items. I am not one that is going to stock non BE stuff. Reason being is I have always prided myself on making the best I could. Not using BE additives in my food would be like me using alcohol in rychate and Fishak. That is not an option for me.

NemesiS65, I have 2 accounts, my other account is a Master commando. I PvP with that account. My first impression of thedefense mods is they are not worth the time, effort and money to use.I will admit that one test isnt enough, but I went into a large battle buffed with Pikatte pie, +50 Dodge, Cho-Nor-Hoola 17% disease/poison, Synthesteak 27% dmg reduc, citros snow cake +45 (now reading it is bugged). I eat the foods right before the battle started and before I had a chance to get to the brandy, I had been mind poisoned. I started to drink the brandy then decided it wasnt worth wasting it, because the cause was hopeless. I did not notice much if any improvement even with all those defensive mods. So why waste BE tissue on items that have miniscule ammounts of benefit. (yes I know further test is needed but +50 to dodge should have been quite freaking noticiable do you not think so?)

I also completely agree that this revamp is a bigger boon to BE and especailly those fortunate enought to be BE/Chefs. Also your point in this statement

"who cares what the Jones' make as long as your doing what makes you happy and pulling in a few creds for your own retirement fund."

Making the best stuff, not half quality(nonBE stuff) is what makes me happy. I could do that before with MY skill as a chef. Now I have to depend on a BE to give me the item that makesMY food better. Name me 1 other profession whose quality of their finished product SOLEY depends on another profession's SUB? Would you not be pissed if you had to beg a Chef for schematics of good quality food. Just so you could feed your pet to enable him to grow during the cloning process, and if you didnt get that food then he would be half as good as he could be? As it has been pointed out in other threadswe are nothing more than a deliver or of BE buffs now. Also since SOE is wanting classes to work together who do we supply subs to..... Nobody.

jeditao I do feel like a slave to brandy and I have 6 factories. I have no doubt I could sell 4 full factory runs of brandy a week right now without any problems. Other stuff,,, who knows if it would even be looked at. These figures below are based on me loggin in every night around the same time.

BE tissue takes 3 days to make,

Additive 1 day

Cask 1 day

Alcohol 1 day x 2 required = 2 days

Brandy 1 day

That is8 days for 1 factory to do a full run of Brandy (assuming trim is purchsed). I realize that with 6 factories and good factory management I could get that to6days. Point being If I want to be able to maintain stock of at least 1 item, and the item that I feel has the most benefit to the customer then I am basically slaved to Brandy. Where before I could stock fishak and all the other 9 items I maintained.

As a rifleman I love the brandy, however . . . . I'm a full time user of the (sorry I don't remember the names of the foods yet) food that gives a bonus to creature harvesting. It's not filling, I get get more out of my mission . . can't go wrong. I would like to see some health/action bonus foods - I'm not just aware of what they are. I'd much rather have food for those stats than get buffs, I like the flexibility of a boost when I need it, not when someone is advertising a buff.

People are starting to use other foods Im noticing, new interest in the Pyoliian Cake for the crafters is increasing, and when I startbabbling about Defense vs. Knockdown +45/+95. Ears perk up and people say, "HUH!", "Really!?", and my favorite, "What ELSE can you make!?"

This makes me happy

I made 100% of them. Most suck. A handful are very good.

what about foods that eliminate 50% damage for X amount of hits (synthsteak?)

Heh, nice try. Synthsteak is one of the few useful foods, but it doesn't reduce damage by anywhere near 50%... it can only take light additives, so even with an additive it'd be lucky to clear 40%. Without it's nowhere near.

flameout which was 99% damage reduction

for what, four hits? With a filling so high it completely precludes drinking the almighty Brandy, this has good shock value in theory, and little actual value in practice.

Extra harvest for the rangers collecting the very valuable and hard to get in quantity avian meat

Used it. Things that I usually harvest for 202 went up to 218. Yay. Bestill my heart, and please be patient while I send an email to a Chef begging for more of this at 75k/crate, so I can harvest enough extra meat that I can sell for 50k. That's good business sense if I ever saw it. I tried giving this to my hunting partner, a master scout. He used one charge and gave it back. If I can't give it away for free, you really think there's a market to sell it? Sure, if I were out hunting a really high-quality avian meat that I could sell for 100 cpu, I might want this. Might.

action stat buffs...health stat buffs ... experimentation foods (dont want a crit on that RIS armor now do we).

action buffs, health buffs... that again preclude the use of Brandy (or Canape). Experimentation foods have yet to be shown to give any improvement. Between me and an AS/WS partner we've chugged over 50 Ports and are yet to see an amazing success while under its effect. Critical failures number three.

terrain negotiation and melee def for the jedi's and BH's who have little or no defences otherwise.

Terrain negotiation food has no effect if you aren't a Scout. If you are a Scout, you don't need a terrain negotiation boost. Pitiful melee defense + 10 = pitiful melee defense. BHs will still get hit every single time someone/thing swings at them. They're better off with synthsteak.

+20 to dodge??? and you say people will laugh at that? umm think again dude... when dodge no longer stacks fencers be banging down the door for that stuff...lol.. or at least the smart ones will.... ever tried to hit someone with high dodge skills?

You're right, 200 dodge is very formidable. 15 isn't. I (fencer) and a friend (pistoleer) have been using aircake extensively, and I stopped making it. Niether of us can tell the difference between having this buff and not.

Reduced spice downer...again an awesome use item

It might be if it worked. Well, if it worked and didn't have that duration. And wasn't so filling. And didn't preclude the use of Brandy. Of course, with a list of qualifiers that long, Wastril Bread would've also been "awesome".

And I suppose the mind heal foods are crap too?

Blue Milk, once again, precludes the use of Brandy. Given the choice between a 350 heal, or a 250 heal AND buff to mind, focus, and willpower, I don't see many people opting for the heal. Well, many smart people anyway.

I actually like several of the new foods. About a dozen of them are likely to strongly appeal to a niche market. Perhaps I'd have spent some time agreeing with you if you had actually touched on the few good foods other than Synthsteak. Trying to claim they'll all be widely demanded though completely denies any sense of reason. Niche markets are, by definition, low volume. You can't sell massive amounts of dodge food when only a couple combat classes are even able to dodge, and there's certainly no need for three different dodge foods to exist (in the complete absence of counterattack or block ones). Port is so filling you can't even make a single item fully under its effects. Trying to use it throughout the completion of a single suit of RIS armor (as you suggest) would take weeks. Many of the interesting buffs are simply too small to matter. I asked a CM friend what the potency on his disease packs was, and he replied 112. So, if I drink this +disease defense drink, I can take my chance of resisting from 0% all the way up to 3%? Not even that, I'm afraid. My friend informed me that if people started resisting him he'd have no trouble making packs with yet higher potencies. Etc. Etc. Etc. For widespread appeal there are only a few foods, and only one drink.

The Chef profession did not improve, though our food did. Your inability to grasp that those are separate issues explains quite a bit.

AHH, THANK YOU soo much for your detail arguements that I have been trying to point out. I saw these issues when the new food list was complete. People notice an extra 200 HAM stats, the only defensive food that you can know for sure that is working correctly is synthestake, even being able to eat it for free I will not use it, except for maybe PvP.I hope the devs see your post or SV brings your post to the Devs attension.
