Thread: I hate to say this but...
?
I come here with a legitimate concern and I am called a troll? I am not trying to troll. I am just merely stating that tatooine sunburn is too good, and is probably the best buff in the game. Where else would I bring this up to actually get some real discussion? The main board? Bah.
+3000 str and stamina is unmatched by any other buff in the game. Its like a mobile master doctor for action points and comes in stacks of 9.
Yes I am in fact a smuggler, but one of my good friends is a chef. I dont wish to nerf chefs, relax people...no need to get so defensive about it.
And for those of you who were wondering, here are the stats of the best spices in the game:
Muon Gold:
+500 willpower/focus/mind
Neutron Pixie:
+1000 health +200 str/cons +500 action +50 stam/quick
Booster Blue
+400 action/quickness
They all last for 10-13 minutes and have a 2-3 minute downer time.
I'd say the chef foods are much better, wouldnt you?
First of all, keep in mind when the buff wears off (after 6 minutes) you are still full for a long while and cannot take any more.
And here is a list of our buffs: http://www.thehegemon.com/chef.htm
Show me where any of them compare to what you just listed (besides the sunburn.)
Our entire profession does one thing - Buff people
Why shouldn't we have the best buffs in the game? We invest thousands upon thousands of credits / time / and carpal stress on ourselves in order to buff other people, but overall our buffs suck. TS and a few other buffs near the top are actually worth a **edit**, Everything else is a total waste and not worth the combine 99% of the time. At least 10 of our recipies we can't even make because the resources are ungodly rare or the schematics fail to load.
Factories do not function properly in that our foods do not come out with charges (but medicines come out with charges just fine). We can't put up larger harvesters to make more useless buffs because medium and heavy floral extractors are unmakeable and have been bugged since beta.
Smugglers do other things besides buffing, they have nice pistol specials, can slice items. They have other sources of income that are quite reliable and have their own niche market.
Doctors can heal people, rez, sell meds. They have other sources of income (as long as people are nice to tip well) and have their own niche market.
Chefs make food. Food buffs people, that is our only market. If our food is not worth the bother to eat for the buff, we have no market.
If TS was nerfed before any fixes were made to our class it would be a horrible mistake.
Chefs buff -period-
"I come here with a legitimate concern and I am called a troll? I am not trying to troll. I am just merely stating that tatooine sunburn is too good, and is probably the best buff in the game. Where else would I bring this up to actually get some real discussion?"
Because you are asking for nerfs, not discussion.
Try this and you willg et a better response, at least from me anyway:
1) Explain why you think this is overpowered. Just saying +1500 is too much makes no sense.
2) Quit saying its +3000 and pay attention to what REAL chefs are posting. If you drink 2 at once, you are gonna be at +3000 for 5 minutes, and then +0 for AWHILE bcause you just drank 2 and filled up like a dork. Not to mention, there is absolutely ZERO benefit to having a secondary stat at +3000 vs +1500.
3) If Chefs got Slicing and other neato abilities like Smugglers, maybe you could balance the classes together. But as it is, Smuggler spices totally own Chef food AND you can make TONs of cash slicing weapons and terminals. Sorry if I don't feel sorry for you.
4) Also, maybe you shouldn't list your Smuggler buffs as an argument. One of our biggest issue now is we are ALL food (no slicing, etc) and our buffs PALE in comparison. So yes, yours are better and last longer (even with the dowtime). Not to mention, our fix was to MAKE OUR RECIPES BETTER, not nerf Smugglers.
So once again, if you yearn for intelligent discussion, make sure you reciprocate.
I want just ONE good reason why you think +1500 to str/sta is overpowered, just one. Cause so far your reason is "1500 is just too much".
"Yes I am in fact a smuggler, but one of my good friends is a chef. I dont wish to nerf chefs, relax people...no need to get so defensive about it."
Well, we are a broken profession and u come here and suggest that drivel w/o even backing it up. What did you expect, unequivocal support?

I have not asked for anyting to be buffed or nerfed specifically.
I have asked that our buffs be more competitive with smugglers and doctors. Right now smuggers are way outselling me. The only people who are buying food are creature handlers for our pets. They are buying a lot of it, but they are the only ones.
I have also asked that the schematics should be balanced. I mentioned (if you bothered reading) that our best buff is at Mixology II, when it should be closer to master, and there should not be such a huge jump between the lower levels and ones like Tatooine Sunburn because right now it seems like they were placed completely randomly around the skill tree.
But I have not asked for specific buffs to any one thing, and I have not asked for specific nerfs.
Perhaps you weren't reading very carefully, they can buff more then 1 HAM bar.

Ok, lets do a direct comparison between Doctors, spices, tat sunburn to give my argument some merit.
Doctors:
Can buff a single stat considerably. Buffs last for about 50 minutes. Secondary stats (such as stamina, quickness, cons) cannot be buffed as highly as primary stats (thus confirming my theory that secondary stats are supposed to be harder to buff). A master doctor can normally buff stamina by ~1500. This buff wears off if you die, cross server zones (ouch), or use shuttles. These effects are not stackable. The buff requires that a doctor be present to administer the buff. To reach master doctor you must master two professions which requires 135 skill points.
...
"but chefs need to admit that tat sunburns need nerfing once everything else is balanced out."
Once everyhting is balanced out, POSSIBLY. But I still have not seen any indication as to how 1500str/sta os overpowering.
As you may guess, I use Sunburns every chance I get. But when I run out and have to fight w/o them, guess what? I am still able todo sowith limited downtime. Drinking those on a mission run MAY save me 30-45 secs of dowtime waiting for my stamina to regen. And that is mostly because I'm a carbineer user.
So what you are saying is nerf them because they are powerful in comparison to the buffsSmugglers and Doctors get in reference to how many skill polints they have to use.
What I'm saying is ignore that and tell me how 30-45 seconds less of downtime is overpowering.
Now if it was +1000 to health for 10 minutes....oh wait, that spice...nm.

"Cyene, since your reply is a blatent attempt at trolling me out and turning this into a flame thread, I'm only going to say this:
A stamina buff of 3000 gives you +1080 action regen/minute. Assuming you are in combat for five minutes (continual action drain from special moves/being attacked etc) and you have a tat sunburn lasting that long (300s) you will recieve +5400 action from it. Much better than anything a doctor or smuggler can do.
This is not a personal attack against you or your profession. Please do not take it as such."
As I mentioned earlier, you should be more clear of your message. Also notice I have witheld my desire to flame in the last few posts because it seems you do actually want to discuss this.
First, sunburn is +1500 to action regen, +1500 to health style efficiency (not regen), and -97 to focus. You keep saying 3000 and I'm not sure why. Let compare apples to apples here, single usage to singel usage.
Second, and finally, we get to the real issue. The action regen portion is the portion you believe is overpowered.
So lets concentrate on that. How uber does +1500 to action regen make me?
Well, if I am a class that does not use action styles, it does nothing. To my knowledge that makes it usable to maybe 3-4 professions at most.
Now, keep in mind, even at 3000 stamina, the regen isn't good enough to out-regen action bar damamge from mobs or players (not to mention, how often does anyone really die from action pool damage...that is, w/o doing it themselves with their weapon). So what does that really leave us? A buff that allows someone WHO USES ACTION STYES ONLY to spam them without fear of killing themselves. That's it. Period.
The only other use would be the str benefit for health based styles. But once again we are talking about a few melees and pistoleers.
I'm not saying its not a **edit** good buff, because it is. But that's all that it is. It makes the ridiculous health/action HAM costs of most weapons bearable.
So once again, in your eyes, if this buff does more than I just mentioned, please share.
Cyene
A couple points:
Action is the premier stat for any profession that uses the pistol. The majority of players favor pistols, so tat sunburns are the most relavent buff for them. There is a very large market for action buffs.
Also, I'm talking about +3000 stamina from to sunburns stacked.
Deadjawas I'd like you to focus on this paragraph from Cyrene, because I think its worth calling out:
Now, keep in mind, even at 3000 stamina, the regen isn't good enough to out-regen action bar damamge from mobs or players (not to mention, how often does anyone really die from action pool damage...that is, w/o doing it themselves with their weapon). I am perfectly willing to discuss balancing the Chef class in both directions, but honestly your complaint so far has focused totally on the numbers (wow this Chef food can buff a stat 3000 points) and not on the in-game impact or balance effect.
The numbers are indeed impressive, but I have to agree with Cyrene that the in-game impact is not so huge that it calls out to nerfage. The smuggler spice that increases Health by +1000 (and a lot of other nice stat boosts) will have a much greater impact in any single combat. And remember we have to talk about single combat situations, because thats all the longer Chef buffs last.
So please on your next post, explain to me what the specific in-game unbalancing impact of this drink is, because you have not made that case. It doesn't matter if the numbers are +1500, +3000, or +30000, you should judge whether something is 'overpowered' by its in-game impact.
Thanks

smuggler
made something with 60 ress (think shadowpaw). got 240 XP !!!!!
thats ress*4 ... as chef we never ever get food that gives 240 XP per combine. They crawl up spices 4. It takes 3 hours with ressources supplied. They are superior to any chef buff except mix2's sunburn.
