Thread: I love chef, but... well
I've been using the master chef master tka combo for a while and tbh I'm probably going to drop chef with these changes coming in and go for Doctor and make my money through selling buffs instead. As much as I like crafting all I see in these changes is a lot more work as I'll have to make a much wider range of food and no doubt sell less so it will be smaller runs of food requiring me to get more ingredients and spend far more time crafting. Not my idea of fun at all.

I enjoy being a good chef. I dont enjoy some, person, telling me I should hang up my chef hat because I dont agree with him. Unfortunately, all the things I like about being chef seem to be going away. I appear to be watching the last 6 months I have into my character become a waste. So yea Im a bit ticked off. Im sick of hearing how the old stuff was broke (experimentation, components)and the new will be great from people that turned master chef 2 days ago and just didnt understand how it worked. Im sick of people telling people they dont have a right to post their opinions on this board. And that little goob that runs around 1 starring everyone who has said something remotely negative about the patch. bah bah bah. <-- my best sheep imitation. oh wait..I must add. oh yea, this patch is the best thing since sliced bread. (sarcasm in case a dev actually reads this board on accident or something)
wow, nikki seems to have forgotten this is a game.
In this game, I have accumulated millions of credits selling food. I do not find it necessary to brag about being the 'best chef on the server', it matters not. What matters is that I provide a service to a group of combat classes, and most provide me with meats. It comes around.
I am concerned about this upcoming revamp, but only due to the fact that the new foods are aligned with a future HAM system. So, the way I see it, we have a month or so to decide what to make, to determine what our customer base will use, then when the new HAM system goes live, we get to do it all over again.
Will we continue to make credits selling foods.... YES
Will we continue to interact with combat classes.... YES
Will we need to have a Master Artisan/Master Bio-Engineer to help us make some components?...Maybe
But, ask yourself a question... How many of you went Master Artisan BEFORE any other skill? How many Master Artisan Items do you make before vehicles ? Does this give Master Artisan something else to make...YES
Is it ALL bad...NO
But, on the downside...I am currently slowing production, using the time until the patch to stock up on materials I do not have.
My 9 factories are idle, except for special orders.
Good news....My vendor is stocked with over 300 crates of the 12 foods I sell.
After the Patch, I think about a week will suffice until I am fully stocked with new, improved foods for all to enjoy.

You seem to think that you hold some authority here because you've been a chef about a half a month longer than other people here. My opinion is just as valid as yours, and I'm not saying you can't believe what you want, because I know my opinion doesn't hold water here. Other chefs agree with you, and with an attitude like you're getting, your prooving it's ok to get angry and not be civil about the situation. I've already posted that the buffs need to be higher w/out BE components, I've already posted that digestion needs to be shortened, I've agreed with you on most points. The point I AM trying to get through is that even if this patch does go through (which is likely w/ SOE), it doesn't mean it is the end of the world. My guild is the largest on Lowca, we're at the cap for guild members, and there seems to be a general consensus that these changes aren't so bad. They could live w/ some of this stuff. Yes, it needs more work (Hence, "In Testing"), but there's no need to go busting through every thread showing your distaste like you've been doing the past couple days. You're not helping Vimes keep control at all. Post you're grievances in the "In Testing" forum and PRAY it get's read. Your venting here isn't doing ANYONE any good.

Don't mean to side track you, but 25% bonus to dodge (which I think stacks with defensive aquity) mean 25% less hits. That equates to a 25% armor (As long as whatever you're attacking doesn't kill you in 1 hit)
After the patch you can take BoH, this, and something else to make you even more TK invinsible.
As far as class interdependancy: BE additives are not required, and Casks/Barrels are not required. There is no enforced class interdependancy.
There was some talk, and I can see it coming in at some point, that creatures might drop items that could be used as food components (like janta blood works in stims for example). Now presumably the Rancor Liver or whatever it is takes the Biocomponent slot and does good things to the food (VERY good things one would hope). This is a nice idea.
My point is, no-one could possibly then expect all your food to be made with Rancor Livers. To be honest I think it's a shame if one chef can make all the best possible stuff, you know? I think that fact that Nikki could achieve such a goddess-like reputation means there was a flaw in the old system.
My non-chef combat-oriented friends think the revamp looks great. This bodes well.

It may not have been only the food that gave her a Goddess-like reputation.
I am going to try to address all of your issues in one easy to read, organised post Nikki, because I think my writing style has you, and a few other people confused (Not trying to insult your intelligence). I am NOT trying to offend here, I am trying to state facts, or assumed facts here, because I am, for the most part, working w/ the same amount of information you are.

"Define loads of components please? If im going to put be components in everthing I make Im going to need roughly 9-10k a day. I run 14 factories nonstop. I seriously dont think a BE will be able to keep up. "
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
BE's will learn to adjust when they see what kind of market there is for this stuff. It is a change, and it WILL take some time to get used to. That is the negative part of change, but it will come eventually. There is now money to be made in the BE profession, and now that the grind is a little easier, I think we'll see a few more BE's on the servers.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
But then again, with the new food looking so...stinky. Im sure my sales will drop considerably so I probably will have to cut my volume back a large amount. Yea it very well may not be a problem for a BE to supply me with the stuff I need if Im selling the new stuff. No one will want it so sales should really crawl.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I won't speak for Sir Vimes, but I think this is exactly the kind of talk that he wants to prevent. Criticism is acceptable, but please make it constructive and not so "Woe is me"ish.

I currently have a reputation for selling some of the best food on my server. That IS my niche. I dont make mediocre food. Removal of my ability to experiment components and use varieties of alchohol and the necessicity to use flavoring to make *anything* I make good, will elminate my niche. There wont be very many great chefs around because suddenly we cant do ANYTHING unless a BE allows. I never said I want to be independent. I already use BE components. I use them to make my food better *WHEN* I can get them. But in the current situation our food does not SUCK without them. See, thats where the problem comes. Our food shouldnt REQUIRE BE components to be something someone will want. People should want our food for what it does, with BE components being icing on the cake and making them better. Not, well I want some food but only if it has BE components because otherwise it sucks.
The prospect of taking the business I built based on making the best quality food made on my server and turning into a mediocre quality business is rather a slap in my face. I didnt spend the past 6 months building my business to have it turned into a pile of stinkin poodoo because there is no bio-engineer that can keep up with my need to make food that doesnt suck.
Tell me another profession that will rely 100% on another elite profession to be able to make *anything* worthy of selling.
Im rather insulted at being told well then you should make mediocre food. I didnt become a chef to make crap. I became a chef to make the best food I can. This patch removes that ability in any viable form.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Your reputation is important. You andI and just about every other chef thats been here at least a week has invested TIME. Time is valuable and can't bebought. I understand. However, you continually claim that you are unable to make ANYTHING good in the new system, when you have not been able to see how well GOOD ingredients make things. I agree, we need to see this stuff first, before it's pushed Live. I have personally sent a private message (he reads these, because I've gotten a few responses from him in the past) asking himaboutgood resources given to TC chefs and the powerleveling of a few chefs to make sure this is done right the first time. I wish I still had the letter, becauseI think it really shows that I'm NOT all for this new patch. I DON'T want it on Live yet. The point 'mtrying to make in all these threads is that being babies about the situation will not help. The only criticismTH and the Devs want to hear is the constructive kind. The more crap we put on this board, the less likely they are to read and respond personally.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Oh and as for your little cutsey remark about the economy and supply and demand and if I cant keep up then Ill fade away. Well see theres a problem with that theory. I can promise you that in rl where you pulled your little economic lesson from, tomorow we wont all be eating aluminum as our main meal because some world leader felt we should. The fact that my business wont be able to keep up has nothing to do with economy or the fact that I run an incompetent business. It has everything to do with someone getting a hair up his bu** and deciding oh from now own everyone will eat this way. In a world where the dev can do whatever he wants whenever he wants, your economic law is bogus. The only rule that reigns is the Dev can do whatever he wants. My business wont fail because I cant keep up, my business will fail because someone felt the need to radically change the game. In simple terms, a dev will put me out of business. Not some supply and demand bullcrap thanks the same, my business is how it is because I *can* handle the supply and demand. I find your post rather insulting that you think its perfectly ok for devs to ruin peoples hard work. And you practically told me to fade away. How obnoxious can you get.
---------------------------------------------------------
You are partially correct. In the real world, a dictator isn't going to get up and tell us to change the way we live and work. However, this IS a game, and adjustments here are made much more easily than in real life. As for my comment about meeting supply and demand, or fading away, my apologies. I did not intend for you to take it to mean that you should quit. However, under the new system, you would have to work harder to get the best of the best foods, which is something I was hoping for. I was tired of the best being someone who just had the best resources, and the quality of his being only 5 or 6 points above the rest of the competition w/ only mediocre resources. Business is about managing resources (human and ingredients) and your time. I think this new challenge isn't a good thing, and it will definately spread the business around the galaxy so now people will be encouraged to "Shop around" more than they would to get the BEST stuff. And the difference will be noticably different.
----------------------------------------------------------
No I sit in a bubble in my factory all day long. Of course Ive talked to my customers. My customers have even posted here regarding the change. My customers have also posted on my galaxy board regarding the change. And finally Im forced to talk to my customers about revamp every day due to the fact I have to sell crates with warnings attached now that they may not be any good things to our upcoming revamp. I dont think I have one of the best products on my server. I *KNOW* I do ok. I was there when there were 4 chefs on the whole server. I check out the new chefs that pop along which until the last 4 weeks was easy to do as there werent many. I trained most of them. My customers tell me all the time that I make the best food around. I have more time to play than most people do. I use that time to my advantage. Im not talking about vendors selling out, Im talking about the product itself. The reason my business works is because I found a niche and filled it.
-----------------------------------------------------------
I've been thinking about making a thread for the combat professions to post their opinions on the current buffs and changes. I might just do this now.
A revamp is going to require adjustment, your niche will change, that is unavoidable with changes in food.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Thats my problem. The food buffs are so low that they require the BE component to be useful. Yea test isnt using the best ingredients. Ok we can just wait for it go live and then if we are disappointed beg for another revamp. Yea thats gonna happen. To me it looks like a problem. If we have problems, the time for discussion is now. Once it goes live I do believe that its a bit too late for discussion.
----------------------------------------------------------
Vimes stated earlier that there will be more schematics with patches etc. I've also heard rumors oflootable/quiest basedfood schematics in the TC patch (Not Confirmed). I agree that we should discuss this now, but not in the manner that is being approached in some threads in this forum. What happened to the chef <3?
---------------------------------------------------------
No, I dont find it necessary to brag. In fact, I typically say some of the best because I dont like to brag. Jerecki of course corrected me in saying that everyone says that because their vendor sales out fast. So I corrected him, thats not why I say that. No I dont hold authority over anyone else here. But then again I dont go around telling people that they should drop chef if they dont like the changes. Nor do I go around telling people TH said the crate issue was a bug and would be fixed when in fact he didnt say that. He didnt even know there was a problem. I hope you are right for the people that listened to your advice. Jerecki you seem to feel that you have some authority here IMO, hense my nasty return post. I think we all agree there are problems, and we all have opinions. But saying the solution is well then your business should shrivel and go away is productive in what way? You taunt and taunt and think you are some all knowing person that sees the light and expect someone not to respond to you? The reason I post my opinion is because "now" is the critical time. I want to be heard just as much as you do. You also feel the need to post in every thread Ive noticed. Funny you should tell me I shouldnt. I DID post in the other thread. Thanks, but I dont need you to to direct me there. In addition who do you think you are going around telling people not to post petitions on this board? Yet Im the one with the superiority issue? This isnt Jerecki's Chef Forum the last time I checked. Perhaps if a dev actually came in here and said something it might help to alleviate some concerns that are more pressing that people have.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
-Really all I've seen the past few days is you talking about how much you don't like this patch and how your opinion matters because you've been doing this from the beginning and you hate all these chefs who've only been here a week praising the patch. I'm paraphrasing.
-I didn't say drop chef, you're putting words into mymouth.
-I was misinformed about the bug fix. I had originally thought that TH did not know about the issue, but someonecorrected me and said he wasgoing to get it fixed soon. *shrug* I didn't do it intentionally.
-I don't fel that I have ANY authority here, in fact, quite the contrary. The reason I speak up is because few people on my side of thediscussion are willing to speak their mind. All I'm preaching is civil constructive criticism, which is what Vimes has beentalking about the whole time. I'm basically saying itsoVimes won't have to (Not trying to steal his Thunder or anything) I'll mail him after this and ask him if I'm out of line if you'd like. Like I said, I'm not TRYING to offend anyone, it's just the way I discuss issues. I don't beat around thebush.
-Petitions: You saw that they closed the discussion board. Did you see how many petitions were there before it was closed. We don't need petitions, we need intelligent discussion of the issues. Petitions are too impersonal. I'm glad a few people agreed w/ me on this issue.
--------------------------------------------------
I still cant believe you have the audacity to say that if I cant get a BE who can keep up with my demand that my business should shrivel away. **edit** am I supposed to say to that other than attack you back or defend myself. You are the one that started the flinging crap with that bit. All I did was voice concern about he amount of dependence on BEs being too much.
------------------------------------------------
I'll have to look over this section again, because from looking at it the first few times, I didn't really say anything offensive or "fling crap" as you so eloquently(sp?) put it.
------------------------------------------------

And we don't enjoy being good chefs? Again, I didn't tell you to hang your hat. And again, new patch will need to be adjusted too. But we're blowing this way out of line. And weren't you the one criticising that other guy who called people sheep? Your twisting what people have said to make it seem we're the bad guys. we have opinions just like you, and we can express it just as well.
-------------------------------------------------------
Nikki, you've made people TERRIFIED to contradict you because you take it so harshly. Toning it down a little might help. Try being more civil and don't take things so personally. I realize all this is VERY important to you, and really, it is to me too, thats why I took the time to write this. I hope this maybe clears some things up. Apologies if I have offended you again.
