Thread: Improving Cantinas
Ok, another day, and another day of fretting. Do I want to be a chef?? Ora cantina owner, because its very difficult to be both.
Also a cantina takes up 6 lots. A tatooine Guild Hall takes up 7. Where is the reasoning in that?!?
I'd be in favor of:
1) /agree: player cantina acting as food/drink crafting station and factory
2) /agree: buffs of all kinds being more effective if applied in cantinas (player or non-player)
3) mission NPCs and NPC pilots appearing in player cantinas
4) /agree: making all food & drink placeable on tables plus eating / drinking animations
5) i've always liked the idea of noticeboards in cantina (player or non-player)- for a small or player-set fee you can place a message for7 days, and patrons can read the noticeboard from anywhere in the building. Puts a strain on the database though I guess. I'd rather have this than 300 different types of meat however.
6) love the idea above of an animatedviewcreen (maybe with selectable channels on the radial menu) as a piece of furniture. Even if the animations were crude it would be a nice addition.
I guess it would / should be possible for people to drop specially-named items in player cantinas to act as signs for the various services and shops available in the player city, so that going to a player cantina is your first port of call in the city and you can see what's what without running around door to door. Be interested to know if anybody's tried this yet: I would highly recommend it.
i think gambling tables and jukeboxes should be profession-specific droids (merchant and entertainer respectively- the latter able to provide non-healing ambient music if needed or else provide musical accompaniment to a playing musician or a spotlight on a dancer), but I've always thought that.
As for dancing I suggested a while ago that somechef drinks might grant temporary (non-healing) dance abilities (inhibitions being thrown to the wind). This would be better, IMO,than merely letting people do the basic dance because they are in the cantina.

Well, they can start by removing the ability to heal BF from houses, so people have a reason to go to a cantina in the first place.
I thought about this too, but wouldn't that force chefs to use player created cantinas instead of houses which are much better?

Cantina's on live are 5 lots.
When I saw SirVimes post this yesterday, I couldn't think of any fair game mechanic that would thoroughly improve cantinas. After reading a lot of the responses, most of the suggestions could be missused and/or would unbalance players that own cantinas too much. The only real improvement they can make is dropping the lot usage to 2-3 lots, or upping the storage signifigantly. I don't think that hurts anyone yet it does help rp bartenders.
Gah now its 5 lots!!!
*goes back to heaps of paper with lot calculaions*
No...no...no EVERYTHING IS INSANE NOW....

Oh yeah, and just noticed: Chefs are not listed as able to place cantinas in the advanced player guide for player cities (http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/content.jsp?page=Advanced%20Guide%20Player%20Cities)
Maybe they fixed it in the manual, but not in the APG?
NPC's milling about, music in the background 24/7, chatter etc.
I'd also like to see some options, such as no pets, no fighting, no imps/rebs so you can create the atmosphere you want.
A master chef gets the "Place Cantina" function at master according to the in-game skill tree. I'm guessing that's all that matters right now.

5 lots is much better, I might actually get one.
I have seen a lot of fine ideas here, like gambling machines and juke boxes.
The gambling can just be the machines out of the Hotels. I like juke boxes alot, pay 20 credits and have it play one of the musician songs, it doesn't actually do any thing for you but adds to the atmosphere.
I think the trivia game is a good idea too but there would have to be alot of questions or people would just memorize the answers and collect whatever prize it give out over and over.
The only problem is that Cantinas don't really have a lot of room for this stuff, unless you put it up on the sides in the walkways.
Cantina's are starting to look better and better, now what do I do with my large house ![]()
No battle fatigue in homes anymore. This was created because there were no cantinas. Now is the time to take this function out of the game. Make city cantinas more necessary.
Master Chef/Master Dancer
I like the idea of some sort of TV, but I don't think it should be a flat screen vid screen. This is Star Wars. Think holographic images.
If three changes were made, I would visit player cantinas all the time:
1. Allow me to drink and eat more while in a cantina...simply decrease the amount of space the food takes up by a high percentage, say 50%, if it is consumed in the cantina.
2. Increase the duration of the effects of food to be comparable to that of buffs from docs, musicians, and dancers. Food from chefs should already last this long, but food from a chef consumed while in a player city cantina should buff for an even longer time. Otherwise I'm not going to travel to a player city cantina so that my buffs can run out before I get into combat.
3. Food crafting stations in cantinas should be capable of higher quality products so a master chef can really make some good stuff.
