Thread: Improving Cantinas

Well my cantina won't be up for another 5 days. As the first mayor on lowca and a Master Chef, i want a cantina badly but right now I don't see the point. I asked before but didn't see an answer, can you heal the first six stats in cantinas or just the mind wounds and b/f. this could make them worse then a "house-cantina), especially with how cool the medium tat's are for cantinas.

I agree partially with the food factory part, but I don't think it would be very practical or easy to implement. Maybe give a 20 percent bonus to all food crafted inside of cantinas, and obviously an increase to speed of b/f/mind wound healing inside of one (even though this doesn't benefit us

Another idea (even though it would technically be a nerf) is to remove wound/bf healing from houses. This would suck, but at least it would give more of a point to cantinas and medcenters.

More radical ideas:

Post Above: Server droids

Post Above: Cantina part factory

Bartender merchants WITHOUT merchant skills

Post Above: Ambiant Music for healing (Only radical as it would reduce need for entertainer, not in devs plans)

+50 food crafting station in bar

Unfortunately I'm not very inventive, so I can't come up with anything decent, sorry

I think this is a nice idea and it really benefits chefs. A server droid or integated fatory would be useless for Entertainers and medics would just use it for Stim Pack production to rack up the xp. I, as a Merchant would rather not see player controled npc vendors in a cantina, the maintenance was just fixed on all the vendors in the game and at business 4 you can placea "coke machine" vendor which is better than nothing.

I say if you want a bartender that bad, do it your self and keep you cantina populated or buy Novice Merchant. With Planetary Ad Campaign and Ad Barking fixed Merchand is a good combo profession with any crafting profession. Hireing 4 is always good to dress up your vendors too

I Like the experimenting bonus for chefs only, or food only. If medics want a bonus to their crafting they should take it up with the devs and Player Med Centers. I would like to see the bonus be worth something too, like +40 or 50 to help with better drinks but I have no idea what Thunderheart is going to post about the new chef ideason Saturday, or if he is going to post it. Hopefully he won't help us by nerfing everyone else

Got my fingers crossed.

Help us Thunderheart, you're our only hope

Keep up the good work SirVimes.

Although I am not a chef, I was always very interested in this profession and my good friend Brullig who most of you may or may not know is a Master Chef, I have some ideas for you about your cantinas.

1) Increase food experimentation within cantinas.

2) Increase the buff a food gives by a percent if eaten in a cantina.

3) Increase the rate at which players mind stats heal in a cantina, or give a boost to the player characters performing in a cantina. Also figure out how to exlude afk'ers from this bonus.

4) Increase heal range, on performers, so that everyone doesn't have to crowd around the stage.

5) Include a service droid option in the house terminal thing that does not require you to have business 3, and looks like a chef of sorts from Star Wars world. This droid could be placed on, and would pop up behind bar and then you could load drinks and food to it, then when you turn the option off the droid goes away so you can personally man the bar. A merchant or person with business three may also place other venodrs besides this.

6) Implement some sort of system where chefs can store stuff in book cases, thus not placing everything on the floors.

7) Implement eating and drinking art, so that someone can equip a drink and others can see it in his/her hand.

Well those are my ideas, I have tons more, feel free to expand on any of these.

First off, these ideas are not all chef related, but for usefulness of player cantinas in general.

I totally agree that there should be service droids craftable by DE's with service trays, barking advertisements, and maybe clothing like aprons or hats. A person would have toposess merchant skills to use these droids of course.

Give an extra experimentation point to chefs and musicians when crafting, even if they aren't in the cantina when crafting. If they have a cantina placed in the game it could act as a skill enhacing attachment of sorts. The chef or musician is successful and knowledgable enough to own their own cantina, so show it in their skills. Maybe the crafting in the cantina bonus would be less crit fails while in the cantina. I know quality doesn't enhance instruments, but I imagine they will implement this eventually.

Ambient music is also a good idea, though it shouldn't enhance the standard healing that happens in a cantina with no entertainers. It would just help the atmosphere, especially if there is only dancers in the house.

In player cantinas (ONLY) the patrons should be able to interact with entertainers through /commands when recieving mind buffs. This would enable stronger and/or longer lasting mind buffs. Example: I am recieving a mind buff from "Herman" and I praise him for his entertaining abilities by typing "/rousingapplause", "/whistle", or "/ENCORE!!!".

As has been mentioned many times before, there needs to be art and animations for food and drinks. This would help atmosphere and roleplaying in general. There also needs to be visual effects for consuming intoxicants like wavy vision, blurry vision, "beer goggles", and dare I say...hallucinations! Now the "beer goggles" effect could make males appear to you as taller and more muscular, while making females appear more curvaceous. Maybe players could select how they prefer their beer goggle effects. Example: When consuming alcohol I want other men to appear fat and haggard, but I want women to appear less buxom(since 99% of females in the game look like Jenna Jameson)and havemore of arunway model build. This wouldn't totally alter others appearances to us, but would shape them more to our liking. As for hallucinations, this could be a good opportunity to insert humor in the game. Say I get smashed on Corellian Ale one night andthe next thing I know there's a Jawa slapping a Tusken around right before my eyes!

Another idea for player cantina player animations would be the ability to perform standard, but unprofessional dances by the patrons. These dances would have no healing abilities, unless the devs wanted to use this to bolster healing effects or something. When players get to drinking alcohol maybe they could do some silly drunken dances or fall flat on their faces(gotta remind the kids that drinking is bad hehe). Maybe a person could issue and invitation to another player for a dance? The other player accepts and they choose to have a slow dance, a dirty dance, a swingin dance, or a Wookiee jig. Perhaps the type of dance would be tied to the song being played. These types of things could maybe beinitiatedwhile listening/watching entertainers and consuming chef goods?

Another idea for art in player cantinas would be having monitors on the walls showing pod races, blob races, and other Star Wars sports like in Episode 2.. The ability to lower the lights in the cantina and have the spotlights concentrating on the stage might be neat also.

Ok, I'm done.

I have been juggling lots like crazy to put up a cantina, and I almost rather save my lots and put up merchent tents, they freakin' rock.

I have over 15 lots spaces currently that I have shuffled around, 5 of which I have placed on a volunteer. with the addition of a cantina, it means I have to find another person to donate a good chunk of lots to hold my factories (I have 3), and probably 1 of my houses (I have 3 of these).

At the cost of almost 6 lots for a cantina, what do I get??

1) A structure people may or may not use

2) No storage

3) 6 lots that cannot be used for other things

4) the overwhelming feeling that I am inconviencing other people who are holding my structures.

When I compare this with the Merchent tent I can put up:

1) takes up 1 lot

2) I can put vendors in it

3) currently they offer storage

4) maintence is minimal

And even when I compare this to a house:

1) takes up 1 to 3 lots

2) I can decorate this to appear like a cantina, or a store

3) It has seperate rooms for storage

I have been extremely fortunate that friends in game have offered their lots to me without even me asking, but I really really do not like the feeling that I am inconviencing them, what about other players who are not that fortunate? Finding people you whole heartedly trust to take your structures and basically your entire "life's work" of your character is very difficult in the realm of online video games. Also what if they need their lots back, or decide to quit swg.

They are all really tough decisions that frankly I dont think you should have to make in the first place. This is a video game, its supposed to be fun and relaxing, I should be sitting here with a calculator and pen and paper ripping my hair out over what the heck to do with my structures. Should their be limitations?? Of course, but I think in this particular situation you are put in a pickle.

Okay, I'm a newbie who hasn't even seen a player Cantina yet (there probably isn't even one up on my server), but one thing springs to mind: mini-games.

Gambling - everybody loves gambling. I used to blow a fortune in AC's rather primitive Casinos just for giggles. Allow cantina owners to place an object that can be used for a game. It could be single player vs the house, like Star Warsy roulette or fruit machine, or a card-table type thing that allows players to play and bet with each other. Winnings and losses in player vs house games could either automagically appear and disappear, or go into/be taken from the Cantina owners funds. You could even let the owner fix the odds...

Bar games - Star Warsy darts, Star Warsy pool. Maybe a Quiz machine. They don't have to be terribly complicated to be an amusing diversion.

And continuing from the music thing - jukeboxes, not for healing, just for ambience.

This is all just fluff, but bars and social areas should be fluffy places. These things work pretty well in real life. Whether the dev time vs benefit payoff is good enough is another matter.

Oh, and another random idea. I don't know how it works at the moment, or if anything like this is already in, but say, in 5 years time when I make Master Chef and can afford a cantina, I'd want to attract performers, who in turn would attract customers. How about an automated way of putting them on a payroll? I set it so Dancer x and Musician y get automatically paid so-many credits per minute they spend performing in my joint. It could just be a nominal amount, but it would be little cash boost for them, and an incentive for them to make my place their regular gig.

To expand upon an idea about jukeboxes in the above post. It might make sense to actually allow them to provide some small amount of mind heal, but charge for it. Say 10 or 20 credits for a short song that provides a little mind heal. Player would have to keep putting in credits to get complete heal. Give credits to the cantina owner (chef-owner in this case). This would be extremely helpful on those remote places where you go into a cantina and there are no entertainers around. This would be good for the players who need mind heal and good for cantina owner (they make a little money). Just keep the amount of heal/cost so that it would be better to be healed by an entertainer if they are present, that way it wouldn't detract from the entertainer profession.

You can put things in a cantina, but there is no seperate room or basement, or attic for anyof it, and its really really unsightly to have your crap laying around the cantina.

It's probably capped still at 150 max items too?

*sighs*

I really like the idea of the minigames - cantinas would be used a LOT more if people had something to do in there, besides hope the Chef was home or an entertainer was on. Heck I miss darts from UO!

The serving droids would rock! And they should NOT be useable by someone with only merchant skills, but maybe someone with Chef OR Merchant skills? Something a little more balanced, not every Chef probably has Merchant skills (I'm almost master Merchant but I only know two others and one is someone's alt). I'm SOOO tired of the whole trade window business as well. It's wonderful for actual secure trades but a real pain when you are just handing out food for tips (or free!)

What about - decor packages? That is, you get a certain set of items out of a group with which you can decorate the cantina - think barstools, tables, chairs, playing cards dice... paintings of some sort (imagine that dogs playing poker SWG style ) basically things that belong in a bar! The whole point of the decor package would be that they don't take up items! Or maybe only one? something like that. I'm not sure it could be done but it would mean I might actually look into getting a cantina (or helping my friend get one).

At this point, unless you've two accounts and your Chef is your alt, I don't see the point of owning one.

Hey all,

Well cantinas are out and, well, I don't see much of an advantage of owning one. It takes up six lots but doesn't give us anything that a house doesn't...in fact, houses give us more in way of storage space and rooms.

Redesigning the cantina is not an option at this point. This means redoing a lot of art assets, and whenever I ask for this I get told how long this takes. Decreasing the amount of lots is not an option since that is tied into the size of the building, and they would need to shrink the building.

The only option that I see left to us is that cantinas give us a benefit that makes up for the loss of lots. What that benefit is, I don't know. Maybe it can double as a factor or something along those lines....

Anybody else have an ideas of what we can do with cantinas?

Give Cantina that have Chef owners or co-owners SERVING DROIDS! Example? Go to Mos Taike on Tatooine and enter the Cantina. LOOK! An R2 Droid with a serving tray and and drinks on that tray. They can let people get their drinks off the droid.

Yes make the Cantina part food factory. Reasoning? They should look at the hopper load times on some of our drinks. If several people order some of those longer loading drinks they'll more than likely LEAVE the cantina before the drink is out of the Hopper. (this can also be solved by them actually lowering those times, but....) With a mini-factory behind the bar you can have some drinks running while you are making some by hand. PLUS, there's that nifty output hopper for you to hold items to instantly provide when people ask for them.

Ambient music for when there are NO entertainment types around. This SHOULD be possible, you hear it in the cantinas in Bestine and Corellia (Reebo's music over speakers) and you get it when you visit the merchant trainer in a trainer guild hall. We should get it too.

If I remember any of this when I wake up I'll post more suggestions. goodnight.
